Greece: Audio Visual Market Guide Page 1 of 4 Greece: Audio Visual Market Guide Betty Alexandropoulou December 14 Overview The audio-visual (AV) market in Greece is showing signs of recovery after 4 years of double-digit decline for home audio and cinema spending. Retail sales have demonstrated signs of recovering, along with expected GDP growth in 2015. Demand for audiovisual equipment is covered by imports, mainly from European Union countries China, Korea, and Japan. The United States is a supplier of computers and peripherals.. Out of a population of 10.8 million people and 3.7 million households, there is an average of two television sets per household. Ninety-nine percent of these households have access to free broadcast TV, 19.5 percent have access to satellite and IP Pay TV, and 3 percent have satellite internet and pay TV bundled service. Market Trends The end of 2014 is expected to mark the completion of analogue broadcasting and a transfer to digital service. The switchover requires technological upgrades for media outlets, households, and businesses. Within this context, Digea was formed as a network operator providing a digital terrestrial television transmission in Greece for seven nationwide private TV channels (Alpha TV, Alter Channel, ANT1,Macedonia TV, Mega Channel, Skai TV, and Star Channel). In addition to these free nationwide broadcast stations, the network is open to other station broadcasts. With respect to pay-TV, fierce competition between the two main providers (Nova/Forthnet & OTE) resulted in record-high satellite and IP-TV subscriptions as well as the introduction of new channels and relevant content by the two rival platforms.

  • 1 Introduction to 'Ideology' 2 Ideology and the Paradox of Subjectivity 3
Notes 1 Introduction to ‘Ideology’ 1. Bell, unlike Francis Fukuyama, carefully avoids equating the end of ideology with utopia or near-utopia. 2 Ideology and the Paradox of Subjectivity 1. In his ‘De la Métaphysique de Kant,’ de Tracy explicitly excoriates Kant for his lack of scientific method and chides him for developing ‘the inverse of reasoning’ in the Critique of Pure Reason (cited in Kennedy 1978, 118–19). 2. In ‘The Poet,’ Emerson calls for a radical poetic aesthetic that would eschew the artificial constraints of meter and adopt an ‘organic form.’ Interestingly, Emerson also developed the concept of the ‘oversoul,’ which owes much to Hegel’s Geist. 3. In his Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis (1915–17), Freud dissects the subject into three parts: super-ego, ego, and id. These correspond roughly to conscience, consciousness, and desire. The ego attempts to regulate between the super-ego and the id. 4. Freud fails to suggest, however, that religion fulfills its ostensible moral purpose: ‘in every age immorality has found no less support in religion than morality has’ (1964, 68). 5. Zizek distinguishes between cynicism – the classic ideological response to social reality – and ‘kynicism,’ the ‘popular, plebian rejec- tion of the official culture by means of irony and sarcasm’ (1989, 29). In the latter instance, subjects appeal not to reason, but to parody. The subject mocks the gravity of official doctrine by exposing the self-interest of the principals. Saturday Night Live and Mad TV, for example, lampoon the ultra-earnestness of political candidates through caricature. In one such skit, Bill Clinton’s famous empathy (‘I feel your pain’) is undercut by a portrait in which he cannot restrain his sexual impulses for even a moment.

N°116 June 2013 Black screens in Athens, blue ones in Marseille... In the history of television it’s a sad first: the sudden closure, by a government, of an entire public broadcasting service. On June 11th at 8.00 p.m. GMT the Greek national broadcaster, ERT, brought down the shutters. Which just goes to show how much the PriMed discussion on June 21st, about public service broadcasting in the Mediterranean, will be at the very heart of what’s happening in the Mediterranean Broadcasting Landscape. What’s more, the discussion will be held in the presence of most of the chairs of the Mediterranean television companies, coming to Marseille for a summit meeting. What future, what ambitions for these public broadcasting companies? Blue screens in Marseille: on June 17th we launch the 17th PriMed in Marseille: the Mediterranean in images and from every angle. You can watch it on primed.tv, so do not miss it under any circumstances: screenings and awards for the best documentaries, news films and web-documentaries. Also in this issue, a report on the first PriMed event – the MPM Averroès Junior Award in partnership with Espaceculture_Marseille; an exclusive interview with Rémy Pflimlin, head of France Télévisions; a close-up on Films du Soleil; and all the usual items. Article Audiovisual Media Communications in Adult Education: The case of Cyprus and Greece of Adults as Adult Learners Constantinos Nicolaou * and George Kalliris Laboratory of Electronic Media, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Faculty of Economic and Political Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 546 36 Thessaloniki, Greece; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Received: 1 September 2020; Accepted: 12 October 2020; Published: 14 October 2020 Abstract: Nowadays, audiovisual media technologies and audiovisual content (audiovisual media communications) play an important role in our physical/psychological health, education, and lifelong learning, causing the redefinition of the teaching methodology. As presented in the literature, the use of audiovisual media communications presuppose a new way of approaching effective teaching, which requires the educators on all educational levels and disciplines to display with competence many advanced skills and abilities. The aim of this research is to provide data that will contribute to the effective teaching utilizing audiovisual media communications in adult education. This research is a secondary research from two researches, which are qualitative and based on a quantitative method of analyzing. The primary data were collected through experiment method from adults (18 years and older), in Cyprus and Greece. The results confirm the current debate of using audiovisual media technologies within the educational process in technology-enhanced learning in education, both from the literature, and from the findings and results of various researches. This research is part of a larger, ongoing research that explores the multidisciplinary field that incorporates media, audiovisual content, and education (MACE), information and communications technologies (ICTs) in adult education (in Greece and Cyprus).
