Program Description: The Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree for Visual Art Students is designed for the student who plans to transfer to a Florida public university as a junior to complete a Bachelor’s degree. A student who earns an A.A. degree from Broward College meets the lower division general education requirements of a Florida state university, but does not automatically meet the requirements for a particular major. 1. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredits Broward College. Declared Art students should seek advising through the Visual & Performing Arts (V&PA) Department by calling 954‐201‐6517 or e‐mail [email protected] at the beginning of their studies. 2. Core Humanities: Intro to Literature (LIT2000), Music Appreciation (MUL2010), Intro to Philosophy (PHI2010), Theatre Appreciation (THE2000), Intro to Humanities (HUM1020). Art Appreciation (ARH2000) should not be taken by art majors. 3. Art studio electives include: Color Theory (ART2205C), Life Drawing (ART2330C), Painting 1 (ART2500C), Painting II (ART2501C), (ART2701C), I (ART2750C), Ceramics: Potter Wheel (ART2752C), Ceramics: Hand‐Building (ART2754C), Portfolio Preparation and Exhibition (ART2954C), Intro to Graphic Design (GRA2190C), Graphic Design II (GRA2191C), Photography (PGY2401C), Fine Arts Digital Photography (PGY2800C), Beginning Silk Screen (ART1430C), and Beginning Print Making (ART2400C). 4. Students must take ENC1101 and ENC1102 as as two additional writing credit courses (6 credits) to graduate. World Art: Prehistory to Gothic (ARH2050) and World Art: Renaissance to Modern (ARH2051) satisfy the writing credit requirements. 5. Students must successfully meet the foreign language requirement as prescribed in the college catalog. 6. The Digital Literacy requirement must be met by successfully passing CGS1060C, testing out, or completing a Credit for Prior Learning portfolio. Students that test out are required to take an approved elective to earn the 3 credits. To test out please contact the Testing Center by e‐mailing [email protected]. Declared Art Majors are recommended to test out of Digital Literacy to gain 3 elective credits for Art courses. 7. Students must take 3 credits of International/Intercultural coursework to graduate. World Art: Prehistory to Gothic (ARH2050) and World Art: Renaissance to Modern (ARH2051) are international/intercultural courses. 8. Beginning Fall 2019, first‐time in college students must demonstrate competency in civic literacy either through passing POS2041/AMH2020 or CLEP/AP.
