www.puchner.com KIM WALKER Guest Professor at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music Kim Walker is recognized as one of the leading international bassoon soloists, having performed on five continents and recorded more than 30 highly acclaimed CDs as a soloist and chamber musician. She is of American/Scottish origin and Australian citizen, prolific recording artist and a respected teacher and administrator. Trained in the US and in Switzer- land, Kim has achieved several awards such as the 1st Prize International Competition both in Ancona and Stresa, Italy in 1972 and was Pope Foundation Award winner in 1992. Kim has served as Professor of Bassoon in Geneva, Switzer­ land 1982 to 94, Indiana University 1994 to 2004, and University of Sydney 2004 to 2014 where she served as Dean and Principal for 8 years. She now performs and conducts regularly, with extensive tours and recording projects in South America, Asia and Europe scheduled for 2015. FÁBIO CURY Professor of bassoon at the University of São Paulo, Cantareira College and principal bassoonist with the Opera Orchestra São Paulo. Fábio Cury is one of the most renown and active South American bassoon soloists. Inspired by his Brazilian teacher Paulo Justi, and later by Klaus Thunemann while being student at the University of Music in Hannover, he developed an inclination toward solo playing. His multi-faceted musical activity which encompasses orchestral and contemporary repertoire and a focus on Brazilian music, has resulted in his regular participation in virtually every music festival and chamber music series in Brazil along with solo engagements with the most prestigious Brazilian orchestras. Mr. Cury has acted as an interpreter, teacher, and speaker at events in Argentina, Panama, Canada, Belgium, Slovenia, England, France, Portugal and China. He received the Masters of Arts degree from the University of Campinas, and a Doctorate of Music from the University of São Paulo. He is a founding member of Camerata Aberta, a group dedicated to the repertoire of our time, which received the Paulista Association of Art Critic’s Award for best contemporary music ensemble in 2010, and the Bravo Award for best classical music CD in 2011. His CD “Velhas e novas cirandas”: Brazilian music for bassoon and orchestra, received the APCA award for best album in 2010. Recently his album “Fábio Cury and Alessandro Santoro interprete Bach” was released. Fabio Cury performs on a Puchner bassoon model Superior/6000. JONATHAN SMALL Principal oboist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) and Tutor of Oboe at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Manchester, England Jonathan Small enjoys a seasoned reputa- tion as a highly individual artist, whose eloquent, inspired playing combines individuality with unceasing scholarship. Jonathan’s recording of the Strauss Concerto, and his world- class EMI performance of the Vaughan Williams Concerto with the late Vernon Handley remains a recommended recording. Jonathan has always been active in contemporary music. He gave the premiere of Mark Simpson’s “Nur Musik”, and performed “Extase II” for oboe and ensemble by the Chinese composer Qigang Chen. 2010 saw Jonathan give the UK premiere of Rodion Shchedrin’s Concerto with the RLPO and Vasily Petrenko. Jonathan’s many solo appearances abroad include invitations to the Czech Republic (Prague Spring Festival); Germany, Sweden and Switzerland, USA, China and Australia. Jonathan also holds the appointment as Guest Professor of Oboe at Beijing Central Conservatory, China. Jonathan Small performs on Oboes, Oboe d’amore and English horn Püchner.

STEFANO CANUTI Professor of bassoon at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) Manchester, England and at the Conservatorio “L. Campiani” in Mantua, Italy Stefano Canuti has been principal bassoonist with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra in Florence and the Radio Symphony Orchestra (RAI) of Torino, and has numerous highly acclaimed solo recordings to his credit. Recently he dedicated himself to the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, recording the Sonatas di Gamba (released 2011). For the 25th anniversary of the Interna- tional Double Reed Society he was invited together with Sergio Azzolini as the only European artists to participate in their commemorative CD recording. He is frequently invited to give master classes and perform internationally at the most prestigious venues and festivals. In 2003 he was invited by Maestro Josè Antonio Abreu to teach advanced bassoonists as part of the “Fundaciòn del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de las Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela”. Many of his former students hold important orchestra positions throughout the world. With his forth- coming recording, Mr. Canuti will present a personal project, “Italian Journey”, focusing on his beloved Italian bassoon music. ARNALDO DE FELICE Oboe soloist and Professor for oboe at the Monteverdi Music Conservatory, Bolzano, Italy Oboist Arnaldo de Felice started his studies with Harold Gomberg, principal oboist with the New York Philharmonic, followed by Lothar Koch at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He was principal oboist of the Symphony Orchestra A. Toscanini in Parma. Since 1989 de Felice has been Professor of Oboe at the Music Conservatory C. Monteverdi in Bolzano. Arnaldo’s many solo appearances abroad include invitations to Brazil and Argentina, Bangkok, Taiwan, the Central Conservatory of Music Beijing, International Beijing Oboe Festivals, Okinawa University of Music, Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) Manchester and the Tchaikowsky Conservatory of Music Moscow. For the past six years, de Felice has given masterclasses for advanced oboe studies at the Musikforum Viktring, Klagenfurt, Austria. As a composer Mr. De Felice has received prestigious awards of the Opera of Munich and Zurich. In March 2014 Mr. de Felice’s was world premiered by The National Orchestra of Spain, Madrid under the baton of Maestro Kent Nagano. SAXTON ROSE Professor of bassoon at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, principal bassoonist with the Winston-Salem Symphony, member of Zéphyros Winds Saxton Rose’s virtuosic interpretations of traditional repertoire, and his dedication to new music have afforded him a prolific international career as soloist, orchestral and chamber musician. As principal bassoonist of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2008 he performed with many of the leading artists of our time on tours to Europe and throughout Latin America. He performs and teaches regularly throughout the world with recitals last season in Mexico, China, Belgium, The Netherlands, and in Berlin at the Philharmonie, as well as frequent performances throughout the US with the wind quintet Zéphyros Winds. As concerto soloist, recent engagements have been with the National Symphony of Colombia in Bogotá, National Symphony of Panamá, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Fayetteville Symphony, and the Winston-Salem Symphony. Mr. Rose graduated with highest honors from the class of Stefano Canuti at the Conservatorio “A. Steffani” in Castel- franco-Veneto, Italy and is a former student of William Winstead, Timothy McGovern, and Yoshi Ishikawa. Saxton Rose performs on a Puchner bassoon model Superior/6000.
