HEALTH MESSAGE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH (Grand Gallery E-F) In 1892, Ellen White wrote that “the loud cry of the third angel has already begun.” Two months later, Dr. told the delegates of the General Conference that the key to the loud cry was Isaiah 58. His words went unreported in the General Conference Daily Bulletin, and were forgotten for more than a century. But was he right? What started the loud cry? Abstract theology, applied theology, or both? The history is fascinating, but the present-day promise of a renewed and revitalized full-scope gospel of health is showing its evangelistic power. Join us for a fresh look at God’s end-time plan.

Dave Fiedler has taught elementary, secondary, and collegiate classes in various Seventh-day Adventist schools. His book Hindsight: Seventh-day Adventist History in Essays and Extracts came from his appreciation for lessons in Adventist history. Since

Lift Him Up 2008, he and his family have been working to put those lessons to work in a practical way through Adventist City Missions, Inc.

Don Mackintosh is the health evangelism leadership program director and campus chaplain at Weimar Institute. A pastor and former emergency room nurse, he helped to develop and host a half-hour program, “Health for a Lifetime,” that aired on 3ABN. He also developed the “From Health to Him” seminar, and authored the “What’s the Connection?” DVD series. He has also developed a new series of studies on Daniel and Revelation and the sanctuary, as well as putting together the Gospel Workers training course. He and his wife, Luminitsa, have four chlldren: Elizabeth, Katherine, Donald, and James.

FIT & FREE! DISCERNING END-TIME DECEPTIONS (Grand Gallery C-D) Pastor Finley will outline three basic biblical principles for understanding last-day delusions. He will illustrate how to apply these biblical principles to some of the most significant issues facing the Seventh-day Adventist Church today. If you are concerned about the future of the church, biblical faithfulness, creation issues, the emerging church, and Pentecostal influences pervading Adventism, this seminar will provide the tools to discern last-day delusions. Be prepared for a surprise ending to this thought-provoking seminar that will dramatically impact your own spiritual life.

Mark Finley is a former speaker/director for It Is Written, a retired General Conference vice president, and a still-active evangelist who has presented more than 150 evangelistic series in more than 80 countries, as well 17 NET series Biblical Answers broadcasts throughout the world. He presents regularly at conventions, field schools, and evangelism institutes, and appears on the Hope Channel series Experience Hope. He has written more than 70 books, writes Bible studies for Adventist World magazine, and is the author of the Revival and Reformation lesson quarterly (Quarter 3, 2013). He and his wife, Ernestine “Teenie,” have three grown children: Deborah, Rebecca, and Mark Jr.

RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH AND THE FINAL CONFLICT (Grand Gallery A-B) Current events both inside and outside of the church reveal that the final conflict will revolve around our view of righteousness by faith. Ellen White stated as much when she identified the third angel’s message as righteousness by faith in verity. In this seminar, we will study the relationship between righteousness by faith and end-time events.

Stephen Bohr has spent his life in mission service. Born of missionary parents, he has dedicated decades to ministry and theological research. His love for the Lord is the driving force behind his commitment to spreading the cutting edge Spiritual Enrichment gospel message for these last days with clarity and power.

THE UPLIFTED LAMB (Grand Gallery E-F) The book of Revelation is like none other. The sights, sounds, odors, voices, and thunderings mix with a jarring juxtaposition of images and Old Testament references to create a continuous assault on the mind. This seminar will help you see the Great Controversy as the key to unlocking Revelation’s meaning. By exploring the pivotal role and position of Revelation 4 and 5, it will become clear that the crisis in heaven is only resolved through the Uplifted Lamb.

Steven Grabiner first met Jesus Christ through a lay-run vegetarian restaurant ministry. Having been born into a

Lift Him Up Jewish home and immersed in counter-culture, Steven’s life was transformed by this dynamic encounter with Jesus as the Messiah. He quickly began sharing his faith and newly-found Friend, working in city ministries in New York and Boston, and then in pastoral ministry. More recently, he had the privilege of working in Zambia for close to a decade, training laity to be evangelists and Bible workers. Currently serving as president of Outpost Centers International, Steven travels frequently, conducting seminars on topics such as the book of Revelation, apologetics, and leadership principles.

TRANSFORMING THE MIND (Monroe B-D) Amazing! In His life, Jesus experienced the repentance that enabled Him to physiologically develop the righteous character He longs to impart to each of us—the character He longs for each of us to experience through faith in God. During this presentation, Dan will unravel the practicality of this profoundly encouraging and healing biblical concept. Health Dan Gabbert has worked for the last decade of his 28 years of full-time ministry as a mental/spiritual wellness coach at the Black Hills Health and Education Center, located in Hermosa, South Dakota. Dan and his wife, Patsy, provide practical health tools for the special people who come to BHHEC seeking physical, mental, and spiritual restoration.

EXCELLENCE AND WORK ETHIC (Monroe A) Sharing Christ in the marketplace goes far beyond sharing words and giving Bible studies. Who we are, what we do, and how we do it sends a message far louder than our words. These less tangible characteristics, shaped by our personal habits and the organizational culture, often defeat our well-intended efforts to witness. Just how do we achieve a personal character and an organizational culture that will be a witness for the excellent God we serve? This seminar will examine the steps needed to build a culture of excellence, both personally and within an organization. It covers strategies for recognizing and overcoming the seven pitfalls of mediocrity, as well as methods to encourage and cultivate the seven attributes of a culture of excellence. It will equip you to narrow the gap between mediocrity and excellence, making excellence the norm.

Rob Neall serves as a Bible and history instructor, registrar, and director of Ringers of Hope Bell Choir at Ouachita Hills Academy. His passion for combined excellence and ministry has inspired and motivated students to reach physical, mental, Organizational Management Organizational and moral excellence in every sphere of life. He and his wife, Christine, currently reside in Amity, Arkansas, with their two young children, Elliot and Elizabeth.

CREATION, EVOLUTION, AND THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHRISTIAN (Grand Gallery C-D) In our social interactions, we are certain to come into contact with the theory of evolution, which even casual consideration suggests is in conflict with the central theme of the Bible. How does one respond to this perceived conflict? What difference does it make regarding one’s belief about origins? How can we meet the arguments others may advance to influence our faith in the God of the Bible? What is the role of science in our decision? These and other questions will be considered in this presentation, which has been designed to strengthen our faith and provide us with the armor and weapons worthy of a warrior for Christ.

Biblical Answers Art Chadwick is a faculty member in Southwestern Adventist University’s Department of Biology. He has done significant research in the field of origins and creation, including scientific evidence. He promotes a creation-based perspective on origins.

ABORTION, REDEMPTION, AND RESTORATION: A NEED, A CALLING, A HOPE (Grand Gallery A-B) For many who have experienced an abortion, life has become a struggle burdened with condemnation, shame, and regret. The message of redemptive grace invites post-abortion individuals to acknowledge certain truths: that their lives are intrinsically valuable; that their child, too, was intrinsically valuable; and although what was done cannot be undone, a Savior awaits—offering forgiveness, hope, and joy inexpressible. Join us as we explore the post-abortion struggle, the need for healing, and the hope of life restored.

Antionette Duck is the founder of Mafgia and a living testament to the redemptive grace of the Lord. She has come to understand that her faults and failures are not the end of the story—that the story of the cross is the story of redemption. As one rescued from abortion, Ms. Duck is now an attorney and speaker dedicated to rescuing others. She invites you to walk in the redemptive grace that is yours.

Spiritual Enrichment Dianne Wagner lives with her husband, David, and is the mother of four grown children. Being post-abortive herself, she knows firsthand the crippling shame that so often comes from choosing abortion. She has dealt with denial and grief, has experienced full forgiveness, and has embraced the sweet re-creative power of her Lord and Savior. Seeing the need within our church, she speaks on how to minister to those who have been affected by an abortion experience.

9:00 AM MORNING SESSION — “Genes, Health and Spirituality : What’s the Connection?” (Hall B) The Seventh-day Adventist health message is not a burden but a gift. It shares “Good News” about how we can change the expression of our genes. We can actually turn good genes on and bad genes off! Our actions, thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs have powerful epigenetic effects that transform the very function of our genes. TheMinistry of Healing model for personal wellness and health evangelism highlights for us the principles of mastering genetic risk—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

HISTORY OF GOD’S INTERVENTION TO BRING THE LATTER RAIN (Grand Gallery E-F) “We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history” (Life Sketches, p. 196). In this seminar, Ron Duffield discusses how the Lord desired to return soon after 1844, how He began to send the latter rain, and how He gave the loud cry in 1888. Although the proclamation of this message around the country brought about resistance in many people, positive results still took place. In this session, we will glean many lessons from our past history that are beneficial today.

Ron Duffieldis a fifth-generation Seventh-day Adventist. His great-great-grandfather even attended the 1888 General Lift Him Up Conference. Ron and his wife spent nearly fifteen years at Weimar Institute where he served in the NEWSTART program and as college librarian. There he began his work on The Return of the Latter Rain, published in 2010. The second volume in the series, Wounded in the House of His Friends, will be published in 2014. Ron currently works as a respiratory therapist in Walla Walla, Washington.

HEALING HURTING HEARTS (Monroe B-D) Are depression and anxiety sinful? What does the Bible say about addiction? And how does God heal hearts devastated by abuse? Is there such a thing as biblical counseling—or must we refer people to humanistic psychologists to solve emotional brokenness? We talk much about God’s design for physical health, but healthy bodies often only conceal shattered hearts. God’s greatest desire is not that we merely have healthy bodies, but that we be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Discover the biblical tools the God of love uses to heal hearts broken by abuse, addiction, codependency, marital strife, and many other

LEADING BY FOLLOWING THE GREATEST OF ALL LEADERS (Monroe A) The teachings of Jesus on leadership come from an entirely different platform than much of the secular world’s approach. History reveals leaders who were very skilled, but whose outcomes were terrible. Lucifer was one of the greatest experts in technique, but few would call him a great leader. On the other hand, Jesus not only was amazingly competent, but also was known by countless millions as the greatest of all leaders. We will take a look at biblical principles of leadership that build on the Master’s foundation.

Jay Gallimore has been president of the Michigan Conference since November 1990. Previously he served as conference Management secretary and ministerial director of the Michigan Conference. He has served as director of the Northwest Ministries Training Center for the North Pacific Union Conference and as associate ministerial director in the Kansas-NebraskaConference. He graduated from Southern Missionary College and earned a master’s degree in religion from Andrews University.

EMERGENCE ’S IMPACT ON THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST MOVEMENT: Part 1 (Grand Gallery C-D) Many people are aware of the existence of the emerging/emergent church movement, but few know that the idea of “emerging/emergent church” goes back to the early 20th century. The emerging/emergent church movement is a tangible manifestation of a new way of thinking, a new way of doing Christianity, and a new worldview increasingly referred to as Emergence Christianity. The latter is a broader category, and once understood, it becomes clear that it is in direct opposition to the biblical teachings and biblical worldview. Hence, Emergence Christianity and biblical Christianity are incompatible. John Markovic was born in the former Yugoslavia (presently Serbia) and immigrated to the in 1969. He Biblical Answers is married to Vesna, and together they have a son, John-Phillip, and a daughter, Christianna. Professor Markovic graduated with honors from Andrews University in 1982 with bachelor’s degrees in theology and history. He earned his MA/PhD at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1990. He has taught at Andrews since the fall of 1990 and has been doing research on the emerging/emergent church movement and Emergence Christianity since 2007.

RAISING THE REMNANT (Grand Gallery A-B) How do I help my children grow into spiritually strong young adults? Recent research has finally painted a remarkably clear portrait of the character, values, and practices of parents whose young adult children are now spiritual role models! How did these parents do it? Raising the Remnant uncovers the most exciting fact of all: this very same parenting counsel was given more than 100 years ago! You’re sure to walk away from this fast-paced, information-packed seminar with inspired, practical, and time-tested success strategies from real Christian families of today.

Scott Ritsema is a Bible teacher, author, and frequent guest speaker at camp meetings, teacher conventions, academies, and churches. He is also a part-time instructor at Great Lakes Adventist Academy in Lakeview, Michigan. Scott and his wife, Cami, Spiritual Enrichment recently founded Belt of Truth ministries. EMERGENCE CHRISTIANITY’S IMPACT ON THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST MOVEMENT: Part 2 (Grand Gallery C-D) Many people are aware of the existence of the emerging/emergent church movement, but few know that the idea of “emerging/emergent church” goes back to the early 20th century. John Markovic was born in the former Yugoslavia (presently Serbia) and immigrated to the United States in 1969. He

7:00 PM EVENING SESSION — “This Testimony” (Hall B) The Bible is replete with examples of men and women who served God in remarkable ways, but there is one life that deserves special attention. As we reflect on this life, we will find that it is possible for us to draw warmth from the coldness of others, and courage from their cowardice. If we want to lift Jesus up in a world that desires nothing more than to put Him down, then this is a study that is not only valuable—it is necessary.

Charissa Fong is a passionate preacher who loves to speak about Jesus. She conducted her first evangelistic campaign as a high school student, resulting in more than 30 decisions for baptism in Sydney, Australia. From her earliest years, Charissa has dreamed of being able to speak for God. Based in Sydney, Charissa has spoken to audiences across Australia and around the world. She is also studying theology as a graduate student at Avondale College. FEATURED MUSICIANS: Marleta Fong and Sanja Kitevski. SABBATH, AUGUST 9

10:45 AM SABBATH DIVINE SERVICE — “End Time Hope” (Hall B) Seventh-day Adventists are a people of hope. For more than 150 years, we have preached, “Jesus is coming soon.” Generations of Adventists have gone to their graves believing Jesus would come in their lifetimes. How can we keep the hope of the Advent burning alive in our hearts in light of our Lord’s delayed return? Are we dependent on the uncertainty of world events to motivate us, or is there something much stronger that will be the impetus for God’s people to passionately share Christ’s last-day message with the world?

Mark Finley is a former speaker/director for It Is Written, a retired General Conference vice president, and a still-active evangelist who has presented more than 150 evangelistic series in more than 80 countries, as well 17 NET series broadcasts throughout the world. www.ASIministries.org | 19 SPECIAL OFFERING PROJECTS

The ASI Missions Inc. Board selected 37 projects to receive grants from the offering gathered at the 2014 ASI International Convention. The offering goal is $1,527,000. Online donations are accepted toward this year’s offering and previous years’ pledges. Each project will receive the designated amount, and three of the projects will receive a portion of the overflow. All combined, the projects represent a significant worldwide impact. In the unlikely event that any listed project does not go forward within a reasonable time as determined by ASI in its discretion, ASI may redirect the funds from the failed project to another ASI-approved project. Below are the organizations, descriptions, and their planned use of project funds.

1. Adventist Health International - $10,000 The 208-bed Malamulo Hospital has served Malawi residents since 1902. Its name is synonymous with quality Adventist healthcare in that area. Currently, the campus is desperately in need of housing for hospital staff, for physicians and students on mission rotations from Loma Linda University, and for Malawian physicians receiving surgical training. The ASI grant will be added to private donations to complete an $80,000 duplex now under construction. Malamulo and Adventist Health International thank ASI donors for their support of this iconic Adventist mission hospital.

2. Adventist World Aviation - $10,000 In 1997, the North Philippine Union invited Adventist World Aviation to provide air support for Adventist Frontier missionaries in the interior of Palawan Island. Palawan is home to several indigenous tribes located where roads and waterways don’t exist. AWA now provides regular radio communication and air drops of supplies to these remote mission stations. AWA has purchased land for a permanent airbase and landing strip. ASI funding will complete runway construction and assist with hangar construction and aviation maintenance tools and equipment.

3. ASI/OCI Missionary Assistance Plan - $95,000 ASI’s Missionary Assistance Program (MAP) provides much-needed financial assistance to lay missionaries. MAP is funded by ASI and administered by Outpost Centers International (OCI). It aids individuals and families who have left their homelands and embraced a life of service (with little remuneration) in developing countries. MAP’s small monthly stipend allows these workers to take needed furloughs or, when needed, to send their children home for post-elementary education. These sacrificial individuals serve in countries such as Brazil, Bolivia, Zambia, Tanzania, India, Indonesia, Peru, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

4. Asian Aid USA - $15,000 ASI will assist Asian Aid USA in its production of Hope in Motion, a television series for 3ABN. Hope in Motion is filmed on location at Asian Aid ministries, and tells the stories of the children and people who are assisted. High quality (HD) production is used. The program regularly airs on 3ABN and is distributed on DVD at church events. This film series has been a key part in Asian Aid’s growth and its ability to help thousands more families in Southern Asia.

5. AudioVerse - $20,000 AudioVerse exists in the dynamic world of the Internet where the landscape changes rapidly all the time. Investment into the AudioVerse web platform is essential if the ministry wishes to continue fulfilling its mission. Improvements involve three main areas: 1) new features and powerful tools that will help AudioVerse users find, enjoy, and share content easier, 2) stability improvements that address the burgeoning content library, its increasing number of users, and a surge in mobile web traffic, and 3) components added to a platform that will aid in generating revenue for the ministry. These improvements will greatly increase the user-friendliness of the site, its utility as a tool for outreach, and its effectiveness in helping AudioVerse remain a sustainable ministry into the future.

20 | 2014 Convention Guide SPECIAL OFFERING PROJECTS 6. Better Living (Mieux Vivre) - $50,000 Better Living Ministry/Mieux Vivre (, Canada) currently operates a media missionary training program in rented facilities. Young people (ages 18–25) are acquiring hands-on skills in media production and web technologies. ASI funding will expand this program to accommodate additional students and to purchase appropriate facilities. The very best work-study principles are involved. As they learn, trainees produce much-needed French language gospel programming. The media training program allows the ministry to produce more programming at a lower cost. Better Living Ministry is grateful to ASI donors for their much-needed assistance.

7. Christian Record Services for the Blind - $10,000 Christian Record Services for the Blind (representing the Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1899) has developed Full-Vision™ books to meet the needs of families with both sighted and unsighted individuals who want to share Christian values with their children. Full-Vision™ books are spiral-bound, with large print text and full-color illustrations, inter-leafed clear plastic braille pages, and an audio CD. A blind adult can read to a blind or sighted child or teach a blind child to read braille. Three of the books have been published. Donations such as the grant from ASI will enable Christian Record to complete the 12-volume set.

8. Congo Frontline Missions - $15,000 Congo Frontline Missions operates a lay evangelism training school and church planting ministry in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Over the past six years, more than 5,000 people have been baptized through the efforts of trained church planters working in the Congo River basin. Frequent calls come from other areas requesting evangelism training. Project funds will be used to provide church planting and evangelism training so that more souls may be reached in the vast unentered areas of DRC and nearby French-speaking countries.

9. DayStar Adventist Academy - $95,000 DayStar Adventist Academy is a small boarding high school near Moab, Utah. The goal of its curriculum and campus life is to enhance student opportunities so that they might intimately know God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Founded in the early 1970s, DayStar is replacing campus structures that have been repaired or updated through the years, but that have now reached retirement age. ASI funding will enable the construction of a new boys’ dormitory. Volunteer labor from students, staff, and Maranatha groups will bring construction costs down. DayStar expresses “immense gratitude” to ASI for its continued support.

10. E. A. Sutherland Educational Association - $15,000 The E. A. Sutherland Education Association (EASEA) will use ASI funding to continue its work of improving lay-operated member schools in North America. EASEA provides accreditation and teacher certification services, as well as professional development programs. In cooperation with the schools and their specific needs, it also fosters service learning opportunities for students at its member schools.

11. Ellen G. White Estate - $20,000 The Ellen G. White Estate is responsible for protecting and promoting the writings of Ellen White. This involves translating and distributing her writings worldwide, which has been made easier by the Internet and computer apps. One of the estate’s long-term goals is to digitize all official non-English translations of Ellen White’s writings, making them freely available to read and study at www.egwwritings.org or through EGW Writings apps for Android, iOS, and Windows. Currently, Ellen White books are available on the website in 94 languages . ASI funding will continue going directly toward providing more free Spirit of Prophecy books in more languages.

12. GYC (Generation. Youth. Christ.) - $45,000 GYC is a lay organization of young people committed to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its end-time message of Christ’s soon return. The organization aims to motivate young people to action by providing workshops, hands-on training, Bible studies, and inspirational messages at its annual confer- ence. It fosters Christian fellowship, creates networking opportunities, and encourages young people to assume leadership responsibility. GYC works with Adventist conferences each year to organize local outreach activities for the thousands of young people who attend the GYC conference. ASI funding will aid this year’s event in Linz, Austria.

www.ASIministries.org | 21 13. Holbrook Indian School Garden-to-Plate Experience - $20,000 In the past twenty years, it has been proven that using gardening to teach science, math, and environmen- tal studies results in students having a higher interest in eating fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. Holbrook plans to refurbish its five greenhouses and utilize its farmland to inspire students to learn gardening skills they can practice back home. Young people will garden year-round and provide food for the school’s cafeteria. Along with gardening, students will learn to make wise nutritional choices through this garden-to-plate experience.

14. Instituto de Capacitacion Adventista del Peten (ICAP) - $25,000 The Instituto de Capacitacion Adventista del Peten (ICAP), in collaboration with the Tennessee-based Mission Guatemala team, is establishing a school of nursing on its northern Guatemala campus. The program’s rural health emphasis is much needed, as few rural communities in Guatemala have access to health care. ICAP nursing graduates will provide health care and witness for Christ in those communities. ASI funding will help construct a three-building complex totaling 15,000 square feet. A dormitory, class- rooms, library, computer laboratory, and a skills laboratory will be included. The school will open in 2015.

15. Lay Institute for Global Health Training Inc. - $100,000 LIGHT offers medical missionary training to Adventist lay members around the world through short courses, workshops, and online studies. During the past six years, it has trained more than 10,000 missionaries in more than 70 countries. Some graduates get their local churches actively involved in ministering to neighbors’ needs by using the health message as “an entering wedge” for the gospel. Others go to unentered districts to pioneer outreach projects. Each new lay ministry aims to be financially self-supporting through an industry or business within three years. LIGHT has fostered more than 20 such new mission schools or health projects. It is affiliated with more than 35 lay-training schools worldwide.

16. LifeStyleTV - $20,000 LifeStyleTV provides relevant, meaningful, and life-changing programming 24/7 to Scandinavia. Its lifestyle-focused and Bible-based programs seek to bring life together as a whole—physically, mentally, and spiritually. LifeStyleTV operates in one of the most secular and hard-to-reach areas of the world, but it works! Viewers are not only engaging in an active lifestyle, but also are finding a new purpose in Christ and a fellowship in the Adventist Church. Ministry leaders recently realized that after eight years of continuous production and round-the-clock broadcasting, the stations equipment was failing. The station must upgrade or replace its tired-out equipment in order to ensure high-quality productions and broadcasts for years to come. ASI’s assistance will help keep LifeStyleTV on the air in Scandinavia where it will continue to lead people to Christ. LifeStyleTV says, “Thank you, ASI!”

17. Light Bearers Ministry - $25,000 The Southern-Africa Indian Ocean Division has requested evangelistic support literature. Each year, Light Bearers publishes and distributes 30 to 50 million publications around the world—at no charge! It prints in more than 30 languages of the most needy and receptive peoples of the world. Each week Light Bearers’ self-contained and debt-free publishing house produces millions of items on its six-color web press. These are folded, boxed and palletized, then trucked to the appropriate sea ports. Church leaders receive and distribute materials to pastors, evangelists, Bible workers, and church members, giving them powerful gospel tools for soul winning.

18. Little Light Ministries - $10,000 Little Light Ministries plans to distribute a book, Battlefield Hollywood, about the dangers and addictions of the entertainment industry—movies, music, and video games. The material has been presented effectively at seminars and through DVD distribution. Now an innovative, colorful, and tastefully designed book will be produced, as well as an interactive ebook version, complete with links to videos and resources for deeper study. In addition to sales in current Adventist outlets (colporteurs and ABCs), Little Light plans to place this book in Christian bookstores and mainstream book venues to reach the widest possible audience.

22 | 2014 Convention Guide 19. Loma Linda University – Earth & Biological Sciences - $25,000 Geology research initiated from a biblical worldview can result in significant new insights worthy of publication in high-quality scientific research journals. This fact is illustrated by research done over the last four decades in Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona by Drs. Leonard Brand (Loma Linda University) and Arthur Chadwick (Southwestern Adventist University). ASI funding will help produce a film documenting their research and what it has revealed about creation and science. It is hoped that the film not only will be eye-opening and thought-provoking to non-creationists, but also will encourage our young people to believe in and continue proving the truths of our Creator.

20. Maranatha o.s. - $20,000 Maranatha o.s. is a nonprofit civic association in the Czech Republic led by ASI Missions Inc. board member Radim Passer. MOS exists to motivate Adventist church members to involve their youth in evangelistic endeavors. It deals with children’s ministries, health and science evangelism, publishing, and humanitarian aid. ASI funds will help sponsor a Youth for Jesus program to reach the primarily secular populace of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It aims to motivate passive church members and youth to a new vision, a relationship with God, a clear identity as Adventists, and involvement in mission work.

21. Myanmar Union Mission - $12,000 After Ye Net Gyi villagers asked an Adventist pastor to teach them, 22 people were baptized. A house church will be built for them with ASI funding. In Moe Maik village, members of a Protestant church asked for studies. The church became divided. When 70-year-old Aung Myint joined the Adventist Church, his former friends were so angry that they beat him nearly to death. But Aung Myint and more than 40 others are faithful Adventist church members. They were so enthusiastic about their new faith that they raised funds to build a church in Moe Maik. They could not wait for funds to come from ASI!

22. New Beginnings DVD - $50,000 + 1/3 overflow The revised New Beginnings program continues to be used in the frontiers of world evangelism: China, the Philippines, Southern Africa, the Caribbean, and in venues in mid-America. Hundreds of thousands have been trained to use the New Beginnings program as an evangelistic tool. As a result, so many have learned of the gospel that we have lost count! But millions more need to hear the good news of salvation. This program is one of the most effective evangelism training efforts in the history of the Adventist church. As a partner with the General Conference, we can reach millions more. ASI funding will support translation and duplication of New Beginnings to this end.

23. North American Division Office of Education - $200,000 NAD schools have been using secular science textbooks for many years. The NAD Office of Education made the commitment to develop a new, distinctly Adventist elementary science textbook series. This series is consistent with the Adventist worldview, has accurate science, and is appealing to students. The new textbooks are written on an inquiry-based science model. Students are taught to ask quality questions and to learn through hands-on science experiences rather than by rote memorization. ASI funding will help to complete the science series with grades 7 and 8 textbooks and to provide ebook access to all elementary grade levels.

24. OCI China Health Outreach - $10,000 Outpost Centers International (OCI) is uniting with Health Education Resources (HER) to provide health expo training, banners, screening equipment, and other materials that will be used in China. These tools will provide an opportunity to improve the quality of life and overall health of those who attend the health expos. This is an opportunity to provide a health service to the millions living in Southeast China.

25. One Day Church - $80,000 + 1/3 overflow The One-Day Structure program is an ASI project that partners with Maranatha Volunteers International, Outpost Centers International, and many other supporting ministries worldwide. It uses specially designed One-Day kits. Thousands of churches, schools, clinics, and even mission station housing structures have been built in various countries, primarily in Africa. An estimated 100,000 more structures are needed, with requests coming in from new regions and countries every day. ASI funding will support this ongoing construction project.

www.ASIministries.org | 23 26. Radio 74 Internationale - $20,000 Taking the Adventist message to isolated Native Alaskans is a formidable challenge. Roads into the vast and usually frigid interior are all but nonexistent. AM radio remains the ideal medium. RADIO 74 has an FCC permit to build a 50,000-watt AM station near Anchorage. This powerful station will cover the 350,000 people living in or near Anchorage. During darkness hours, it will reach 110,000 Native Alaskans in remote villages and will be heard in neighboring Yukon, Canada.

27. Riverside Farm Institute - $30,000 Since the establishment of Riverside Farm Institute in 1974 near Kafue, Zambia, it has developed a fully self-supporting operation that includes a scientific garden training program, lay Bible worker training course, sewing/tailoring training, onsite and bush clinics, campus extensions to remote locals, sponsor- ship and supervision of approximately 75 full-time lay Bible workers, the establishment of hundreds of Adventist churches (and subsequent erection of hundreds of One-Day Churches), and the placement of thousands of roofs on Adventist churches. Over the past several years, disease has taken a heavy toll on Riverside Farm Institute’s banana plantation. The funds will be used to plant a new banana plantation of more than ten acres, utilizing outside propagated tissue-cultured plants. The banana crop has been essential to the ministry’s financial success.

28. Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital - $25,000 Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital is located in Punjab, North India. The 80-bed general hospital is a major provider of eye care to the rural masses in seven Indian states. It has gone from performing 800 eye surgeries each year to more than 11,000. Inpatients receive Bible study and prayer from hospital staff and copies of the Bible and Steps to Christ or The Great Controversy when they leave. Nelson is an 80-bed hospital admitting 400 to 500 surgical patients at a time. Every available space is occupied, from hallways to bus shelters. The eye outpatient department and operating theater are in the same area, which poses a serious cross-infection threat. ASI funding will address both problems.

29. ShareHim / Carolina Conference - $100,000 + 1/3 overflow The goal of ShareHim is to inspire and encourage God’s church for outreach and evangelism in our number-one mission fields—right where we live. One method ShareHim uses is the International Evangelism Experience. In 2015, through the generosity of ASI, ShareHim will help awaken evangelistic vision in more than 300 young people as each preaches a two-week evangelistic series in a high-growth region of the world. Afterwards, through one-on-one mentorship, ShareHim will work to encourage and create accountability amoung the young people to continue witnessing back home. In the largest project, ShareHim will bring nearly 200 young adults from Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand to preach evangelistic campaigns with local churches in Southern Mexico and afterwards attend the closing six days of the 60th General Conference Session in San Antonio, Texas.

30. Southern Adventist University - $25,000 Southern Adventist University’s Institute of Archaeology is one of only two institutions to offer degrees in biblical archaeology. Project funds will go to support publications detailing the school’s two ongoing Israeli excavations: Khirbet Qeiyafa and a new one at Lachish. Lachish was Judah’s second most important city and later the site of massive destruction by Kings Nebuchadnezzar and Sennacherib.

31. Springs of Life Foundation - $30,000 Springs of Life’s work in Poland over the last 23 years has proven to be very successful in reaching people by health ministry and the printed page. Thousands of books are produced and distributed every year in local languages. As the demand for books changes, a digital addition to their offset press is necessary. ASI funds will be used to purchase a new digital press for producing low volume books dealing with specific topics. These books will be used by church members and colporteurs to share Jesus.

24 | 2014 Convention Guide 32. Three Angels Broadcasting Network Inc. - $95,000 In its necessity to upgrade television programming to high definition (HD), Three Angels Broadcasting Network received donations from its viewers that enabled it to purchase new HD cameras. Now ASI funding will allow it to buy high-quality HD lenses. Consistent HD programming will make it more likely that cable television companies will choose to add 3ABN to their channel lineups. Wider distribution of 3ABN’s gospel message will be an added plus to the HD upgrade.

33. VIDA Internacional / Campos Blancos School - $15,000 Campos Blancos School (CBS) in Honduras began operations several years ago with step one of a three-phase building plan, starting with one classroom and one grade. Each year, they would construct one new classroom and accept an additional grade of students. CBS has outgrown its current building and must complete the second building phase in order to provide classrooms for new students. It will consist of another three classrooms and restrooms. The children of CBS are eager to learn, and CBS wants to provide them not only with quality education, but also with an environment suitable for learning. ASI funding will facilitate meeting these goals.

34. Water for Life International - $15,000 Water for Life International is a volunteer organization funded solely by donations. The group sponsors an annual three-month well-drilling and evangelism trip to Guatemala (January through March). One employee and a large amount of equipment remain in the country year-round. After wells are drilled, evangelism and clinics (medical and dental) are offered to villagers. Literature and Bibles are distributed, and after baptisms, a church is built. Thus far, hundreds have been baptized, and 12 churches have been built. Sixty wells have been drilled to serve approximately 25,000 rural Guatemalans. ASI funding will assist the 2015 well-drilling trip.

35. Weimar Institute - $25,000 Weimar Institute originated 35 years ago and became an ASI member in 1978. A group of laymen recognized the need for a health ministry based upon Bible principles and the writings of Ellen White to train health evangelists, Bible workers, and pastors. It currently operates a college program, boarding academy, NEWSTART® Lifestyle Center, and supporting industries such as the Weimar Market and farm. In the fall of 2012, a four-month immersion experience, “Health Evangelism and Leadership Training for Him” (HEALTH), was begun to equip young and old, health professionals and students alike, with tools to be comprehensive medical evangelists. HEALTH has an evangelistic component unlike any other health training program currently available. Graduates are imbued with training and a mindset that enables them to serve wherever there is a need.

36. World Youth Group - $50,000 World Youth Group inspires and equips youth to win the nation of Cuba for Christ. During that country’s last half-century, there have been no educational options for church members other than government schools and an Adventist seminary. Children are educated in ideologies that deny the existence of God. In cooperation with the Adventist seminary, WYG operates an annual one-month medical missionary LIGHT school in Cuba. Graduates are supported and sent to unreached towns in every province of Cuba; they have helped to establish over 20 new churches. WYG has a rare opportunity to build a permanent school for advanced soul-winning training. ASI funds will cover 50 percent of construction costs.

37. Youth for Jesus - $100,000 ASI’s Youth For Jesus is the quintessential summer program for youth. It involves young participants from all over the globe in door-to-door outreach, Bible studies, evangelistic meetings, recreational activities, and more. The youth also receive solid, biblically-based training from Bible workers and evangelism instructors. Every YFJ participant has the opportunity to give real in-home Bible studies. This year’s funding will cover a portion of the 2015 Youth for Jesus evangelism training to be held in Spokane, Washington.
