Kenny G G Series
Kenny G G Series “I approach everything in life the same way; if it feels right, I know it.” —Kenny G Synopsis Born in Seattle, Washington, in 1956, saxophonist Kenny G began playing professionally at the age of 17, when he perform. After several years of playing with other musicians, Kenny G released his self-titled debut album. He rose to international fame with his 1986 release Duotones. Since then, Kenny G has become one of the most popular instrumental musicians in history. Early Years Grammy Award–winning saxophonist Kenny G was born Kenneth Bruce Gorelick on June 5, 1956, in Seattle, Washington. The son of Jewish parents, Kenny G grew up in Seattle’s Seward Park neighborhood, the center of the city’s Jewish community. He took an early interest in music and began playing the saxophone at the age of 10. In his teens he continued on with the instrument while falling in love with the R&B sounds of groups like Earth Wind & Fire that were so popular during the 1970s. In 1973, at just 17 years old, Kenny G was hired by Barry White to perform with his Love Unlimited Orchestra at the Paramount Northwest Theater. The performance was the first of several for Kenny G with White and his band. It was around the time he started playing with White that the saxophonist changed his name to Kenny G. Following his graduation from Franklin High School, Kenny G followed two very different career tracks. He enrolled at the University of Washington and began studying accounting, while continuing to pursue a career in music. -
Kenny G Bio 2018
A phenomenally successful instrumentalist whose recordings routinely made the pop, R&B, and jazz charts during the 1980s and ’90s, Kenny G‘s sound became a staple on adult contemporary and smooth jazz radio stations. He’s a fine player with an attractive sound (influenced a bit by Grover Washington, Jr.) who often caresses melodies, putting a lot of emotion into his solos. Because he does not improvise much (sticking mostly to predictable melody statements), his music largely falls outside of jazz. However, because he is listed at the top of “contemporary jazz” charts and is identified with jazz in the minds of the mass public, he is classified as jazz. Kenny Gorelick started playing professionally with Barry White‘s Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1976. He recorded with Cold, Bold & Together (a Seattle-based funk group) and freelanced locally. After graduating from the University of Washington, Kenny G worked with Jeff Lorber Fusion, making two albums with the group. Soon he was signed to Arista, recording his debut as a leader in 1982. His fourth album, Duotones(which included the very popular “Songbird”), made him into a star. Soon he was in demand for guest appearances on recordings of such famous singers as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Natalie Cole. Kenny G’s own records have sold remarkably well, particularly Breathless, which has easily topped eight million copies in the U.S.; his total album sales top 30 million copies. The holiday album Miracles, released in 1994, and 1996’s Moment continued the momentum of his massive commercial success. He also recorded his own version of the Celine Dion/Titanic smash “My Heart Will Go On” in 1998, but the following year he released Classics in the Key of G, a collection of jazz standards like “‘Round Midnight” and “Body and Soul,” possibly to reclaim some jazz credibility. -

You, Me and Forever
Najee – You, Me and Forever July 1, 2015 As one of the best known saxophonists/flautists in contemporary jazz, Najee never ceases to amaze with his creativity and imagination, and, with almost 3 decades in the biz, some may incorrectly surmise that he is now just performing a job – going through the motions. Not only is that incorrect, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. One listen to his latest release You, Me and Forever, and you’ll see my point. For confirmation, the saxman states, “What keeps me going in this business is that no two days are ever the same. This is fun for me. I no longer consider what I do a job.” I think that most devout Najee followers figured that out a long time ago. Here on a very eclectic project where he invites the likes of piano wizards/composers James Lloyd and Kenny G’s musical director Robert Damper, producer guru Chris “Big Dog” Davis, vocalist Frank McComb, and longtime associate/collaborator guitarist/vocalist Chuck Johnson to contribute, there’s enough color and vibrancy for anyone who listens. After a great flute demonstration on the jazzy sophisticated lead track “Air,” Najee nails an Alex Bugnon-penned/ Chris Davis-produced and tweaked piece called “Fly With the Wind,” a hot, funky, bluesy jam with much swagger. Similar to “Air” in many ways, Najee again lets his eloquent flute do the talking – or singing (as he does often here) – on “Wave” with Damper. There’s such a magical, majestic feel to this number that you can’t help becoming influenced by its lilting loveliness. -

Marketing in the News: Popeyes Chicken Sandwich “The Battle of the Chicken Sandwich” Presented By: Jordan Burg Jessie He Britne Peterson BUAD 307 The Birth of the Golden Sandwich ● Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Popeyes,Burger King and Tim Hortons, noticed a trend in an increase of boneless chicken sales which included their tenders. ● In August 2019, they decided to introduce a chicken sandwich of their own made of a fried chicken filet, pickles and mayo on a toasted brioche bun. Source: https://www.businessinsider.com/popeyes-chicken-sandwich-rise-and-fall-story-2019-8 "The chicken was incomparably crispy, juicy, and fresh, and all the elements of the sandwich were well balanced," Jiang wrote. "Each bite was bursting with flavor. And its price tag is also the most appealing — at $4, it's the cheapest sandwich in the lineup." - Jiang (Business Insider) Twitter Wars: Chick-fil-A vs. Popeyes “...y’all good?”- @PopeyesChicken (Twitter) ● “Marketing power of memes” -The Takeout ● #chickensandwichwars Social Media Marketing ● “Apex Marketing Group estimated Wednesday that Popeyes reaped $65 million in equivalent media value as a result of the Chicken Sandwich Wars.” -Micheline Maynard, Forbes ● The firm, based outside Detroit, defines that as the price a company would have to pay to purchase the attention it received for free. Apex takes into account television, radio, online and print news reports, as well as social media mentions. The evaluation was conducted from Aug. 12, when the sandwich went on sale nationally, through Tuesday evening, yielding 15 days’ worth of data. ● The $65 million figure is nearly triple the $23 million in media value that the sandwich generated in its first few days on sale, according to an earlier Apex estimate. -
I Introduction to the Gospel of Mark
I INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL OF MARK The Gospel of Mark was neglected by early Christian tradition, rarely—if ever—used in preaching. The Gospel of Matthew surpassed it in both length and detail.Mark was seen as something of a poor cousin to the great Gospel of Matthew, used so consistently by the fathers of the church. Already at the turn of the first Christian century authors were citing Matthew (the Didache [90s C.E.], 1 Clement [96–98 C.E.], Barnabas [about 110 C.E.], and Ignatius of Antioch [110 C.E.]). Toward the middle of the second century (circa 130 C.E.) Papias, the bishop of Hierapolis in South Phrygia in the province of Asia, associated the Second Gospel with a certain “Mark”and the Apostle Peter, and Clement of Alexandria lo- cated that association in the city of Rome. Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Jerome, and Tertullian agree: the Gospel of Mark appeared in Rome, and reports a Petrine story of Jesus, interpreted by his associate, Mark. But the great fathers of the church scarcely use this gospel in their writings. Augustine articulated most clearly an understanding of the Gospel of Mark that has endured till the modern era: “Marcus eum subsecutus tamquam pedisequus et breviator eius videtur.”1 As the emerging Christian church looked consistently to Matthew for its in- struction, no commentary on the Gospel of Mark appeared until the turn of the sixth cen- tury. From 650 to 1000 C.E. thirteen major commentaries were written on Matthew, and four on Mark. This neglect continued down to the end of the eighteenth century.2 The Gospel of Mark maintained its place in the Christian canon because of its traditional rela- tionship with Peter and the city of Rome. But it has been well described as “present but ab- sent.”3 As the Christian church became an increasingly unified political, social, and ideological phenomenon in the early centuries, “biblical texts were not used as narratives in themselves but as sources for proofs of doctrinal and ecclesiastical positions. -
