Kenny G G Series Kenny G G Series “I approach everything in life the same way; if it feels right, I know it.” —Kenny G Synopsis Born in Seattle, Washington, in 1956, saxophonist Kenny G began playing professionally at the age of 17, when he perform. After several years of playing with other musicians, Kenny G released his self-titled debut album. He rose to international fame with his 1986 release Duotones. Since then, Kenny G has become one of the most popular instrumental musicians in history. Early Years Grammy Award–winning saxophonist Kenny G was born Kenneth Bruce Gorelick on June 5, 1956, in Seattle, Washington. The son of Jewish parents, Kenny G grew up in Seattle’s Seward Park neighborhood, the center of the city’s Jewish community. He took an early interest in music and began playing the saxophone at the age of 10. In his teens he continued on with the instrument while falling in love with the R&B sounds of groups like Earth Wind & Fire that were so popular during the 1970s. In 1973, at just 17 years old, Kenny G was hired by Barry White to perform with his Love Unlimited Orchestra at the Paramount Northwest Theater. The performance was the first of several for Kenny G with White and his band. It was around the time he started playing with White that the saxophonist changed his name to Kenny G. Following his graduation from Franklin High School, Kenny G followed two very different career tracks. He enrolled at the University of Washington and began studying accounting, while continuing to pursue a career in music. In addition to playing with White, Kenny G recorded with the Seattle funk band Cold, Bold & Together. Later, he hooked up with Jeff Lorber Fusion, recording an album with the group and playing with them on tour. Commercial Success In 1982, after inking a deal with Arista Records, Kenny G released his self-titled debut album. Striking a balance between jazz and R&B; the record was received well by critics. His next two albums, G Force (1983) and Gravity (1985), continued his upward trajectory, but it was his fourth studio album, Duotones (1986) that made the saxophonist an international star. Selling more than 3 million copies, the silky-smooth jazz album led the way for Kenny G to work with other big-name stars, including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Natalie Cole. During his long career, he’s also performed with Barbra Streisand, Burt Bacharach and Frank Sinatra. Over the next decade Kenny G and his smooth sound dominated the airwaves and the record charts. His 1992 release, Breathless, sold more than 8 million copies in the United States alone and became the top-selling instrumental album in history. Two years later, Kenny G hit stores with his first holiday album, Miracles, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 1993 Kenny G was awarded a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition for the single “Forever in Love.” In addition to his recording success, Kenny G also holds the 1997 Guinness Book of World Records mark for playing the longest note ever recorded on a saxophone. At a performance at J&R Music World in New York City, he employed a method called circular breathing to hold an E-flat for 45 minutes and 47 seconds. Despite his mammoth sales numbers, Kenny G’s easy sound has made him the target of critics, especially jazz purists, who dismiss the saxophonist for what they consider his lightweight, pop-driven sound. While shrugging off the critics, Kenny G has also made efforts to take on different kinds of musical forms. In recent years, the saxophonist has recorded albums that have showed his appreciation for jazz standards (Classics in the Key of G, 1998), tropical sounds (Paradise, 2002), and Latin beats (Rhythm and Romance, 2008). In 2010, Kenny G teamed up with Robin Thicke and Babyface for the R&B–driven album Heart and Soul. Personal Life In addition to his music career, Kenny G is a passionate golfer and in 2006 was named by Golf Digest as the music industry’s No. 1 golfer. Kenny G has been married and divorced twice. He has two sons, Max and Noah, with his second wife, Lyndie Benson-Gorelick, whom he divorced in 2012 after 20 years of marriage. Kenny G lives in Los Angeles. Kenny’s complete commercial: Kenny is a natural and very relaxed in front of the camera and people. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=kenny+g+commercial&&view=detail&mid=5FC8936D9294AE4 8F6195FC8936D9294AE48F619&&FORM=VDRVRV .

  • Kenny G Bio 2018
A phenomenally successful instrumentalist whose recordings routinely made the pop, R&B, and jazz charts during the 1980s and ’90s, Kenny G‘s sound became a staple on adult contemporary and smooth jazz radio stations. He’s a fine player with an attractive sound (influenced a bit by Grover Washington, Jr.) who often caresses melodies, putting a lot of emotion into his solos. Because he does not improvise much (sticking mostly to predictable melody statements), his music largely falls outside of jazz. However, because he is listed at the top of “contemporary jazz” charts and is identified with jazz in the minds of the mass public, he is classified as jazz. Kenny Gorelick started playing professionally with Barry White‘s Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1976. He recorded with Cold, Bold & Together (a Seattle-based funk group) and freelanced locally. After graduating from the University of Washington, Kenny G worked with Jeff Lorber Fusion, making two albums with the group. Soon he was signed to Arista, recording his debut as a leader in 1982. His fourth album, Duotones(which included the very popular “Songbird”), made him into a star. Soon he was in demand for guest appearances on recordings of such famous singers as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Natalie Cole. Kenny G’s own records have sold remarkably well, particularly Breathless, which has easily topped eight million copies in the U.S.; his total album sales top 30 million copies. The holiday album Miracles, released in 1994, and 1996’s Moment continued the momentum of his massive commercial success. He also recorded his own version of the Celine Dion/Titanic smash “My Heart Will Go On” in 1998, but the following year he released Classics in the Key of G, a collection of jazz standards like “‘Round Midnight” and “Body and Soul,” possibly to reclaim some jazz credibility.

  • You, Me and Forever
Najee – You, Me and Forever July 1, 2015 As one of the best known saxophonists/flautists in contemporary jazz, Najee never ceases to amaze with his creativity and imagination, and, with almost 3 decades in the biz, some may incorrectly surmise that he is now just performing a job – going through the motions. Not only is that incorrect, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. One listen to his latest release You, Me and Forever, and you’ll see my point. For confirmation, the saxman states, “What keeps me going in this business is that no two days are ever the same. This is fun for me. I no longer consider what I do a job.” I think that most devout Najee followers figured that out a long time ago. Here on a very eclectic project where he invites the likes of piano wizards/composers James Lloyd and Kenny G’s musical director Robert Damper, producer guru Chris “Big Dog” Davis, vocalist Frank McComb, and longtime associate/collaborator guitarist/vocalist Chuck Johnson to contribute, there’s enough color and vibrancy for anyone who listens. After a great flute demonstration on the jazzy sophisticated lead track “Air,” Najee nails an Alex Bugnon-penned/ Chris Davis-produced and tweaked piece called “Fly With the Wind,” a hot, funky, bluesy jam with much swagger. Similar to “Air” in many ways, Najee again lets his eloquent flute do the talking – or singing (as he does often here) – on “Wave” with Damper. There’s such a magical, majestic feel to this number that you can’t help becoming influenced by its lilting loveliness.

Richmond, Dean of the College of Music Victor Prybutok, Dean of the Toulouse Graduate School Pockrus, Jason. The Saxophone in China: Historical Performance and Development. Doctor of Musical Arts (Performance), August 2018, 222 pp., 12 figures, 1 appendix, bibliography, 419 titles. The purpose of this document is to chronicle and describe the historical developments of saxophone performance in mainland China. Arguing against other published research, this document presents proof of the uninterrupted, large-scale use of the saxophone from its first introduction into Shanghai’s nineteenth century amateur musical societies, continuously through to present day. In order to better describe the performance scene for saxophonists in China, each chapter presents historical and political context. Also described in this document is the changing importance of the saxophone in China’s musical development and musical culture since its introduction in the nineteenth century. The nature of the saxophone as a symbol of modernity, western ideologies, political duality, progress, and freedom and the effects of those realities in the lives of musicians and audiences in China are briefly discussed in each chapter. These topics are included to contribute to a better, more thorough understanding of the performance history of saxophonists, both native and foreign, in China.

  • PEABO BRYSON Unconditional Love
PEABO BRYSON Unconditional Love He is one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music and with twenty- five years of music-making to his credit, Peabo Bryson is expanding his creative horizons as a producer and songwriter. As witnessed by his outstanding debut for Windham Hill Records, this two-time Grammy-Award winning legend is reaching new heights with a set of exceptional material, much of which he wrote and produced with musical partner Regina Troupe. To a collection of tailor-made original songs which showcase Bryson’s rich, soulful vocal style, this internationally-renowned performer adds an emotive reading of Leon Russell’s classic “A SONG FOR YOU” and an infectious cover of the 1979 Rufus and Chaka Khan hit “AINT NOBODY.” From the sensuous, tropical flavor of “ON AND ON” to “DID YOU EVER KNOW,” the kind of standout powerhouse ballad that has made him a fixture on the music scene, Peabo Bryson has delivered an album sure to satisfy the loyal global audience he’s created for himself over the past two decades. Teaming with longtime friend and duet partner Roberta Flack, there’s “THE GIFT”, a poignant tune that is a reminder of the pairs vocal chemistry; “MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU”, (also featured on Windham Hill labelmate Jim Brickman’s “VISIONS OF LOVE” album) is another Bryson highlight co-written with Regina Troupe; while the easy-going, finger- snapper “SOMEBODY IN YOUR LIFE” demonstrates that Peabo’s ability to handle groove tunes along with the quiet storm and adult contemporary ballads have made him a longtime favorite among pop and R&B listeners everywhere.
