Richard Marin 1995, BRAZIL’S ZUMBI YEAR: REFLECTIONS ON A TRICENTENNIAL COMMEMORATION In 1995, the Brazilian commemorations in honor of the tricentennial of the death of Zumbi, the legendary leader of the large maroon community of Palmares, took on every appearance of a genuine social phenomenon. The Black Movement and part of Brazilian civil society, but also the public authorities, each in different ways, were all committed to marking the event with exceptional grandeur. This article advances a perspective on this commemorative year as an important step in promoting the "Black question" along with Afro-Brazilian identity. After describing the 1995 commemorations, we aim to show how they represented the culmination of already-existing movements that had been at work in the depths of Brazilian society. We will finish by considering the period following the events of 1995, during which "the Black question" becomes truly central to debates in Brazilians society. -

The Indigenous Uprising in Chiapas As a Praxis of Liberation by Diego Malquori
The Indigenous Uprising in Chiapas as a Praxis of Liberation by Diego Malquori The Indigenous Uprising in Chiapas as a Praxis of Liberation by Diego Malquori English Abstract In this paper I focus on the indigenous uprising in Chiapas trying to understand its originality as a result of several factors: from the historical process of confrontation between the indigenous people and the white elites; to the influence of the theology of liberation in the awakening of consciousness that generated the uprising; to the transformation of the original revolutionary model in favor of a movement of civil resistance, built around the goal of a multicultural democracy; to the ability to understand and adapt to the decisive changes that the world has experienced in the last four decades. In this sense, this fight can be seen as one of the several anticipations of the struggle against neoliberal globalization. In my view, then, it is the awareness of the concrete problems of the indigenous communities, along with the utopian horizon of their struggle, that molds the originality of the Zapatista movement. -

The brilliant colors of their garments and their measured step weaved a warm "huipil" (embroidered Mayan dress) of humanity through the colonial city of San Cristobal de las Casas. The joyful procession was the culmination of a year-long farewell in the 42 jungle and highland parishes of the San Cristobal Diocese to beloved and beleaguered Bishop Samuel Ruiz, one of the last beacons of liberation theology in Latin America. Bishop Ruiz reached mandatory church retirement age when he turned 75 Nov. -

The 23-year-old is known for playing the title role in the West End version of Dear Evan Hansen , for which he won an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a musical. The character of Timmy is introduced as a young computer wizard working for Fergus ( Robert Beck ) on his 'bluebird' scam, which involves hidden cameras filming teenage girls. "Working at Hollyoaks is an absolute delight," Tutty said. "Everyone has been so welcoming and have been very supportive whenever I have had any questions. "This mainly goes out to the wonderful Robert Beck who plays Fergus, Timmy's terrifying overseer. "I feel so privileged to play a character like Timmy. He's clearly terrified of those he works for. "His poisoned moral compass has led him down a treacherous path and I'm very excited to see what's at the end." Timmy makes his debut in E4's first-look episode of Hollyoaks on Wednesday, June 2. International Marian Association Letter to Cardinal Mueller
International Marian Association Letter to Cardinal Mueller 31 May 2017 Eminence, Gerhard Cardinal Müller Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine on Faith Piazza del S. Uffizio, 11 00193 Roma, Italy Your Eminence: We, Executive Members of the International Marian Association, which consti- tutes over 100 theologians, cardinals, bishops, clergy, religious and lay leaders from 5 continents, wish to, first of all, thank you for the many excellent and courageous articulations and defenses of our holy Catholic Faith, as contained in your recently released, The Cardinal Müller Report. At the same time, we are obliged to express to you our grave concern regarding your comment from the text when you state: “(for example, the Church … does not call her [Mary] “co-redeemer,” because the only Redeemer is Christ, and she herself has been redeemed sublimiore modo, as Lumen Gentium [n. 53] says, and serves this redemption wrought exclusively by Christ… (p. 133). You unfortunately refer to this term as an example of false exaggeration: “falsely exaggerating per excessum, attributing to the Virgin what is not attributable to her” (Ibid.). Your Eminence, in making this statement, albeit as a private theologian since a public interview carries no authoritative or magisterial status, you have publicly stated: 1) a theologically and historically erroneous position, since the Church undeni- ably has and does call Mary a co-redeemer; and 2) a position which, in itself, materially dissents from the repeated and authoritative teachings of the Papal Magisterium, the historical teachings from your own Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith (Holy Office)and other Vatican Congregations; the pre- and post-conciliar teachings of the Magisterium as expressed through numerous cardinals, bishops and national episcopal conferences; teachings of the broader Church, inclusive of multiple can- onized saints and blessed who all do, in fact, assent to and theologically expand upon the authentic Magisterial teachings of the Church concerning Mary as a co- redeemer.
