There were quite a few of them and its probably no coinci- dence that this happened around the time of a postal strike, especially since several of the lost packages were sent to people with surnames beginning with “P”. Should you experience difficulty in the future the following points might help you work out who to contact. I wash my hands of it all once I’ve sent the copy to the printers (so I can help out only with electronic copies), John Kramer then does all the envelope stuffing and travelling to and from Monks Wood (who provide the free postage and other goodies like the Starter Pack which came with the last issue). Excess stock is then passed on to Mick Parker who now maintains the address list and can then deal with enquiries over copies lost in the post or requests for copies for new members. Invertebrate Site Register Jon Webb (Invertebrate Ecologist, Terrestrial Wildlife Team, English Nature) asked me if it would be acceptable to add the 1999 Field Week records to the Invertebrate Site Register. I asked him what form this is in and whether it was publicly available. It is currently a Recorder 3.3 database, presumably held by English Nature, and will be converted to Recorder 2002 “as and when”. It is a “mish mash of all sorts of data put onto the system over the years” and plans are afoot to make this available via the Gateway as well. The containment is not deemed reasonable because of the natural distribution. Certainty of assessment high medium low Conclusion The Douglas-fir needle midge Contarinia pseudotsugae is endemic in Northern America and already occurs in partial areas of Germany and the EU. It is not listed in the Annexes of Directive 2000/29/EC but was included in the EPPO-Alert- List in 2016. Contarinia pseudotsugae solely attacks Douglas firs. Due to suitable climatic conditions Contarinia pseudotsugae established outdoors in Germany. An establishment in Central and Northern European EU-Member States is also possible. Notwithstanding that Contarinia pseudotsugae possibly might cause considerable damage mainly in nurseries, young reforestation and in Christmas tree plantings, damage descriptions from the areas where the pest occurs in Germany and other EU Member States are rare. According to actual knowledge Contarinia pseudotsugae is already wide spread in Brandenburg and North-Rhine-Westphalia and is also present in different locations in Rhine-Land Palatinate and Baden- Württemberg.

Another part of the updated checklist of Finnish flies is presented. This part covers the families Lonchaeidae, Pallopteridae, Piophilidae, Platystomatidae, Tephritidae, Ulididae, Coelopidae, Dryomyzidae, Heterocheilidae, Phaeomyii- dae, Sciomyzidae and Sepsidae. Eight species are recorded from Finland for the first time. The following ten species have been erroneously reported from Finland and are here deleted from the Finnish checklist: Chaetolonchaea das- yops (Meigen, 1826), Earomyia crystallophila (Becker, 1895), Lonchaea hirti- ceps Zetterstedt, 1837, Lonchaea laticornis Meigen, 1826, Prochyliza lundbecki (Duda, 1924), Campiglossa achyrophori (Loew, 1869), Campiglossa irrorata (Fallén, 1814), Campiglossa tessellata (Loew, 1844), Dioxyna sororcula (Wie- demann, 1830) and Tephritis nigricauda (Loew, 1856). The Finnish records of Lonchaeidae: Lonchaea bruggeri Morge, Lonchaea contigua Collin, Lonchaea difficilis Hackman and Piophilidae: Allopiophila dudai (Frey) are considered dubious. Altogether one species of Bolitophilidae, 16 species of Keroplatidae and 105 species of Mycetophilidae are recognised as occurring in Sardinia. As the bolitophilid and two of the mycetophilid species are represented only by females and are not determined to species level, the total confirmed Sardinian list stands at 119 species. Four species of Keroplatidae and 19 species of Mycetophilidae are new to the total Italian fauna, whereas three species of Keroplatidae and 32 species of Mycetophilidae are newly recorded for the island of Sardinia.
