FEINTED BY GILBERT AND RIVINGTON, VD., ST. JOHN'S HOUSE, CLKBKENWEIL BOAD, E.C. This Catalogue has been compiled by Mr. J. F. Blumhardt, formerly of tbe Bengal Uncovenanted Civil Service, in continuation of the series of Catalogues of books in North Indian vernacular languages in the British Museum Library, upon which Mr. Blumhardt has now been engaged for several years. It is believed to be the first Library Catalogue ever made of Marathi and Gujarati books. The principles on which it has been drawn up are fully explained in the Preface. R. GARNETT, keeper of pbinted books. Beitish Museum, Feb. 24, 1892. PEEFACE. The present Catalogue has been prepared on the same plan as that adopted in the compiler's " Catalogue of Bengali Printed Books." The same principles of orthography have been adhered to, i.e. pure Sanskrit words (' tatsamas ') are spelt according to the system of transliteration generally adopted in the preparation of Oriental Catalogues for the Library of the British Museum, whilst forms of Sanskrit words, modified on Prakrit principles (' tadbhavas'), are expressed as they are written and pronounced, but still subject to a definite and uniform method of transliteration.

However, in recent years, while declining HIV trends are evident at the national level as well as in most of the States, some low prevalence and vulnerable States have shown rising trends, warranting focused prevention efforts in specific areas. The National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) is strongly evidence-based and evidence-driven. Based on evidence from ‘Triangulation of Data’ from multiple sources and giving due weightage to vulnerability, the organizational structure of NACP has been decentralized to identified districts for priority attention. The programme has been successful in creating a robust database on HIV/AIDS through the HIV Sentinel Surveillance system, monthly programme reporting data and various research studies.

No. MH-659/13(N) www.vmsindia.org Butterflies of Amgaon Tehsil of Gondia District (Maharashtra), A Preliminary Survey of Their Community Structure, Taxonomic Diversity and Their Ecology Dezling Danta* and Ashish Kumar Jha De partment Of Zoology, Hislop College, Nagpur- 440001, India *Corresponding author:[email protected] ABSTRACT: Butterflies are among the most beautiful of nature’s creation and are members of order Lepidoptera, the literal me aning of which is ‘scaled winged’, and included with them are the moths. It is the wing scales which give the butterflies their beautiful colours and patterns and make them one of the most familiar of all insect groups. During present investigation 28 species belonging to 19 genera and 4 families were collected and identified of which 08 species belonged to family Papilionidae, 02 species to Pieridae, 12 to family Nymphalidae and 06 species to Lycaenidae. Relative diversity composition of each family revealed Nymphalidae (32.71%) was the most dominant while family Lycaenidae (30.26%) ranked second, followed by family Pieridae (22.19%) and Papilionidae (14.84%). Species diversity, evenness and species richness was calculated by Shannon-Weiner index, Evenness index and Margalef’s index. Analysis of species diversity of butterfly fauna revealed that the family Nymphalidae (2.412) was the highest followed by the family Papilionidae (2.040), Lycaneidae (1.763) and lowest in Pieridae (0.666). The calculated values of species richness ranged from 0.199 (Pieridae) to 2.028 (Nymphalidae) and Evenness Index ranged from 0.964 (Pieridae) to 0.984 (Lycaneidae).

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization about 80% of the world’s population in developing countries depends essentially on plants for their primary health care (Sharma et al, 2010). Inspite of the advent of the modern medicines, tribal populations are still practicing the folk-lore medicines to cure various diseases. The knowledge and the use of medicinal plants and their properties are transmitted through mouth to mouth amongst generations (Subodh, 2010). But this knowledge is under threat because of older and younger generation is not always assured (Anyinam, 1995). Older Indian Medicine systems like sidhaandunani entirely a partially depends either on plant materials or their derivatives for treating human diseases (Joseph et al, 2011).

  • D. D. Kosambi History and Society
    D. D. KOSAMBI ON HISTORY AND SOCIETY PROBLEMS OF INTERPRETATION DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY UNIVERSITY OF BOMBAY, BOMBAY PREFACE Man is not an island entire unto himself nor can any discipline of the sciences or social sciences be said to be so - definitely not the discipline of history. Historical studies and works of historians have contributed greatly to the enrichment of scientific knowledge and temper, and the world of history has also grown with and profited from the writings in other branches of the social sciences and developments in scientific research. Though not a professional historian in the traditional sense, D. D. Kosambi cre- ated ripples in the so-called tranquil world of scholarship and left an everlasting impact on the craft of historians, both at the level of ideologi- cal position and that of the methodology of historical reconstruction. This aspect of D. D. Kosambi s contribution to the problems of historical interpretation has been the basis for the selection of these articles and for giving them the present grouping. There have been significant developments in the methodology and approaches to history, resulting in new perspectives and giving new meaning to history in the last four decades in India. Political history continued to dominate historical writings, though few significant works appeared on social history in the forties, such as Social and Rural Economy of North- ern India by A. N. Bose (1942-45); Studies in Indian Social Polity by B. N. Dutt (1944), and India from Primitive Communism to Slavery by S. A. Dange (1949). It was however with Kosambi’s An Introduction to the study of Indian History (1956), that historians focussed their attention more keenly on modes of production at a given level of development to understand the relations of production - economic, social and political.
