MON-WED | Apr 5-7 | 8p Atlantic Crossing American Experience: Frontline: The Virus on Masterpiece American Oz that Shook the World 1 Atlantic Crossing SERIES PREMIERE SUN Apr 4 | 9p A princess steals the heart of the president of the United States in this epic, eight-part drama series based on the World War II relationship of Franklin Roosevelt and Norwegian Crown Princess Martha. Kyle MacLachlan stars as Roosevelt with Swedish star Sofi a Helin as the beautiful Martha, who fl ees the Nazis with her three young children and lives under Roosevelt’s protection. Hemingway A fi lm by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick MON-WED | Apr 5-7 | 8p This three-part, six-hour documentary fi lm examines the visionary work and the turbulent life of Ernest Hemingway, one America’s greatest and most infl uential writers. Interweaving his eventful biography – a life lived at the ultimately treacherous nexus of art, fame and celebrity – with carefully selected excerpts from his luminous short stories, novels, and non-fi ction, the fi lm allows us to see beyond the façade of the public man and become intimately familiar with this brilliant, ambitious, charismatic and egocentric genius. American Oz MON Apr 19 | 9p This documentary tells the story of author L. Frank Baum and the making of his classic novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the movie it inspired and the importance of this iconic work in American life. Baum broke new ground in writing for children, rejecting the stereotypes of the era – the formal language and heavy-handed moral lessons that were common in fairy tales – in favor of a lighter, more humanistic approach where characters could be both fallible and good. The Virus that Shook the World MON Apr 26 | 9p and TUE Apr 27 | 10p This two-part special tells the story of people around the world living through the pandemic, from lockdowns to funerals to protests. Using extensive personal video and local footage, the fi lm shows the diff ering struggles, beliefs and responses, across cultures, race, faith and privilege. Cultural Anthropology through the Lens of Wikipedia: Historical Leader Networks, Gender Bias, and News-based Sentiment Peter A. Gloor, Joao Marcos, Patrick M. de Boer, Hauke Fuehres, Wei Lo, Keiichi Nemoto [email protected] MIT Center for Collective Intelligence Abstract In this paper we study the differences in historical World View between Western and Eastern cultures, represented through the English, the Chinese, Japanese, and German Wikipedia. In particular, we analyze the historical networks of the World’s leaders since the beginning of written history, comparing them in the different Wikipedias and assessing cultural chauvinism. We also identify the most influential female leaders of all times in the English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese Wikipedia. As an additional lens into the soul of a culture we compare top terms, sentiment, emotionality, and complexity of the English, Portuguese, Spanish, and German Wikinews. 1 Introduction Over the last ten years the Web has become a mirror of the real world (Gloor et al. 2009). More recently, the Web has also begun to influence the real world: Societal events such as the Arab spring and the Chilean student unrest have drawn a large part of their impetus from the Internet and online social networks. In the meantime, Wikipedia has become one of the top ten Web sites1, occasionally beating daily newspapers in the actuality of most recent news. Be it the resignation of German national soccer team captain Philipp Lahm, or the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 in the Ukraine by a guided missile, the corresponding Wikipedia page is updated as soon as the actual event happened (Becker 2012.

A story about our secrets, about confinement, about the isolation we all share…." - Philippe Claudel SYNOPSIS Léa (Elsa Zylberstein) and Juliette (Kristin Scott Thomas) are sisters. The film begins with Léa, the younger sister by fifteen years, picking Juliette up at the airport. We soon realize that the two sisters are almost complete strangers to each other. Juliette has just been released from prison after serving a long sentence. Léa was still a teenager when Juliette, a doctor, was convicted of the murder of her six-year-old son. Léa contacted Juliette when she was released and suggested that Juliette come to live with her. Juliette had no particular desire to see her sister again. Luc (Serge Hazanavicius), Léa’s husband, is quite reserved, almost hostile, about Juliette’s presence under their roof.

V VI Figur 1 "There will be no miracles here" av den skotske kunstneren Nathan Coley. Skulpturen var plassert utenfor The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art under innspillingen av Antiques Roadshow på samme sted, sommeren 2013. VII Forord Takk til veileder Arne Bugge Amundsen for gode innspill underveis i arbeidet med oppgaven.

We are also busy planning our Summer Action Auction, our LIVE! on CET Reimagined event (details coming in the next issue of this magazine!) and more. We are getting 2021 off to a great start and we hope you are too. To support our community’s young learners, we started airing Let’s Learn, a new hour-long daytime program featuring instruction by educators and virtual field trips for kids ages 3 to 8, especially those learning at home. SOITA also continued to offer a robust schedule of educator-and-student-focused workshops, including new age-specific courses about Google Classroom. We are also creating new videos as part of American Graduate: Getting to Work. In the production space, we are continuing to produce new episodes of The Art Show and SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar and, as I write this, we are working to build a new remote-interview set-up in our studios, which we can continue to use well after the pandemic has ended.

There is not a new season to • share with you this month, which reminds me of a call I • took from a viewer recently. The viewer was disappointed by the news that recent series on Masterpiece would not be returning for a second season, with Beecham House being another example of this scenario. PBS and Masterpiece sign on to series in development early on. This mostly out of necessity because of the highly competi- tive market to acquire quality dramas and mysteries. In most cases, these series premiere across the pond ahead of the planned broadcast here. This month on Masterpiece we welcome a remake. All Creatures Great and Small begins January 10.
