La Escobosa is undoubtedly one of the most unique spots in the whole of Rioja Alavesa and it is precisely this fact that led to the company, over 45 years ago now, to name its first wine Solar de Samaniego.

    Kalakorikos, 2. 1997, pp.: 85-96 LA ERMITA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA CONCEPCIÓN DE CALAHORRA Ana Jesús Mateos Gil RESUMEN La ermita de la Concepción de Calahorra fue construida en los años 1683-1704. Es una pequeiia iglesia adosada a lo que hasta ahora ha sido el Asilo de las Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados. Aunque de reducidas dimensiones, es una obra de interés tanto por el edificio propiamente dicho, que alberga uno de los primeros camarines riojanos, como por el retablo que guarda en su interior. La devoción hacia el misterio de la Inmaculada Concepción de María tiene su origen en la Edad Media, y se difunde de manos de franciscanos, cartujos y jesuitas. Durante el Concilio de Trento (1545-1563) se propuso la promulgación del dogma, pero la ausencia de fundamento bíblico así como la problemática inherente al tema impidieron pronunciarse de forma unánime a los prelados asistentes. El monarca español Felipe IV obtuvo del papado una Bula por la que la Inmaculada Concepción de María se consideraba un precepto, pero el misterio no alcanzó el grado de dogma hasta 1854l. La devoción creció en el pueblo católico que se pronunció a su favor especialmente desde el siglo XVI.
