• In the last few years there has been a huge increment in popular awareness about healthy nutrition. As a consequence a myriad of apps is born to help people to track the amount and the kind of Kcal eaten.

• Is it possible to find new disruptive solutions to help people organize and respect their nutrition plan? Is it possible to gain data about nutrition habits and find patterns to relate them to common diseases? Is this a global problem? Is this a global problem? Why is this a challenge?

% of children Why is this a challenge?

1-3% average obesity related cost as a percentage of the total healthcare expenditure.

43€ average cost per kg over the ideal weight.

8-10 years life expectancy reduction for severely obese people. Expected outcome

An innovative and smart tool to MUST TO HAVE improve nutrition awareness

A tool that can help NICE TO HAVE researchers to better correlate nutrition habits and diseases 2° CHALLENGE What’s the challenge?

• Technology and medicine are deeply connected. Nowadays in a hospital medical devices produce every days billions of data about patients and their status.

• Is it possible to organize them in a unique and easy-to- access database? Such a tool has a barely imaginable potential in term of diagnostic effectiveness and cost saving. Is this a global problem? Is this a global problem?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) units Total / In hospitals / In ambulatory care providers, Per 1 000 000 inhabitants, 2003 Is this a global problem?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) units Total / In hospitals / In ambulatory care providers, Per 1 000 000 inhabitants, 2013 Why is this a challenge?

The challenge is extremely ambitious because data are:

1 Fragmented

2 Heterogeneous

3 Hard to handle Expected outcome

An innovative and smart tool to organize ad store relevant MUST TO HAVE information about patients, at least at the hospital level

A wider prospective (regional, national,…) and some insights NICE TO HAVE about new possible applications of the tool How can we help the team?

Topic experts: Hunimed has several experts in the topics proposed and the teams will be able to contact them in case of support needed.

Bibliograpy: As a university Hunimed has access to several bibliographic databases. Therefore teams will have the most uptaded articles at their disposal.

Clinical trials: If the team will develop a working prototype (it would be very appreciated) there may be the possibility to run pilot clinical trials or at least test the solution on real cases.
