One of the outstanding Muslim scholars of the 20th century, Shaykh Abu Ghuddah was a leading scholar in the field o f hadith and Hanaf! school o f fiqh. He studied in Syria and Egypt specialising in Arabic language, hadith, sharfah, and psychology. He had many prominent teachers, among them Shaykh Raghib al-Tabbakh, Shaykh Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Zaraqa, Shaykh cIsa al-Bayanunl, Shaykh Ahmad al-Kurdl, and the renowned Ottoman Scholar Imam al-Kawthari. He taught usul al-fiqh, HanafI fiqh and Comparative fiqh at the University o f Damascus. He also taught at the King Saud University and Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. He was buried in al-Baql’ cemetery in Madinah 1997. q^p FOREWORD Shaykh cAbd al-Fattah Abu Ghuddah (1917-1997), the author of the present work, was one of the leading scholars of the 20th cen tury, especially in the field of hadith and the sciences related to hadith. He was taught by over 200 scholars, drawn from the fields o f hadith, fiqh, and other Islamic disciplines. Among them was the renowned Ottoman scholar and expert offiqh, hadith, and the science of rijdl, Imam Zahid al-Kawthari. -

Jurnal AFKARUNA Vol. 17 No. 1 Juni 2021 The Hanbalite Theology: A Critical Study of The Hanbalite Theological Creeds and Polemical Adversaries DOI: https://doi.org/10.18196/afkaruna.v17i1.11353 AHWAN FANANI Universitas Islam Negeri Walisanga email: [email protected] ABSTRACT The Hanbalite school, well-known as a traditional school of Islamic law, played important role in theological disscourses in Islamic history. The fact, however, fails to be paid enough attention because of prevalent knowledge among Islamic society that the Hanbalite is only and a school of Islamic law. The Hanbalite theology is frequently abandoned in Islamic scholarship, although several researches have tried to reveal them. This article is aimed to extend previous researche of the Hanbalite theology through the description of its creeds and the elaboration of theological polemics between the Hanbalites and their adversaries. This article employs the history of idea by analyzing references written by Hanbalite schol- ars and other related sources. The references are collected and categorized according to the need of topics and then interpreted to provide readers with overall picture of the Hanbalite theology and their polemics along history. The Hanbalites creeds are based on textual understanding on Quranic texts and prophetic traditions. The creeds are underpinned by the idea that the Quran is not created and Quranic verses on God’s attributes should be understood textually. The idea led Hanbalite scholars to do a debate with other theologians. The article provides a more vivid description on Hanbalite creeds and analyzes the creeds in the light polemics launched by the Hanbalite scholars against their rivals. -

EXONERATION A treatise on the exoneration of the nation of the pen and sword of the denigrating charge of being irresolute and weak. By the Mujahid Shaykh Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri Introduction: May God be praised. We pray for His assistance, guidance, and forgiveness. We take refuge in God from the evil that is inside us and our bad deeds. He who is guided by God cannot be led astray and he who is allowed to go astray, there is none that can guide him. I declare that there is no God but Allah without associates and that Muhammad is His slave and messenger. "O ye who believe, fear God as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam" [Koranic verse; Al- Imran 3:102] and "O mankind, revere your Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, his mate, and from them twain scattered like seeds countless men and women. Revere God through whom ye demand your mutual rights and revere the wombs that bore you, for God ever watches over you" [Koranic verse; Al-Nisa 4:1] and "O ye who believe, fear God and always speak words of righteousness that He may make your conduct whole and sound and forgive you your sins. BIRGIT KRAWIETZ UNIVERSITÄT TÜBINGEN Ibn Qayyim al-Jawz|yah: His Life and Works* There is hardly another Muslim Mamluk polymath of such standing who at the same time is best known as the student of someone else. Despite his own extraordinary scientific output, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawz|yah (1292–1350) was Taq| al-D|n Ah˝mad Ibn Taym|yah's (1263–1328) most famous and important student. Even centuries later, he is still primarily known and defined by his relation and service to his master, whose works he compiled and whose legal doctrines and hermeneutical and theological convictions he defended. While Ibn Taym|yah led a life characterized by conflict on several fronts, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawz|yah—with the exception of a few incidents—was a rather bookish man who preferred pious scientific endeavors to confrontations of any kind. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH The full name of this scholar in the shadow is Abu≠ ‘Abd Alla≠h Shams al-D|n Muh˝ammad ibn Ab| Bakr ibn Ayyu≠b ibn Sa‘d ibn H˛ar|z ibn Makk| Zayn al-D|n al-Zur‘| al-Dimashq| al-Hanbal|,˛ known as Shams al-D|n Ibn Qayyim al-Jawz|yah, or simply Ibn al-Qayyim. It is, however, wrong to say Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawz|yah, since the element "Qayyim" is the first part of a genitive clause. Being in the status constructus, "Qayyim" takes no article.1 Nevertheless, this is a frequent mistake. The article, however, returns when one uses the short version Ibn al- Qayyim. Ibn al-Qayyim's father, Abu≠ Bakr, took care of the Damascene Jawz|yah madrasah, so that the term means nothing more than "son of the superintendent (qayyim) of the Jawz|yah." 2 There is no need to dwell in this article on the numerous other elements of his name.3 Suffice it to mention his nisbah al-Zur‘| Middle East Documentation Center. -

APPENDICES Appendix A – Background on The Quran The book of Islamic revelation; scripture. The term means “recitation.” The Quran is believed to be the word of God transmitted through the Prophet Muhammad. The Quran proclaims God’s existence and will and is the ulti- mate source of religious knowledge for Muslims. The Quran serves as both record and guide for the Muslim community, transcending time and space. Muslims have dedicated their best minds and talents to the exegesis and reci- tation of the Quran. Because the Quran is the criterion by which everything else is to be judged, all movements, whether of radical reform or of moderate change, whether originating at the center or at the periphery of the Islamic world, have grounded their programs in the Quran and used it as a support. Revelation of the Quran to Muhammad began in 610 with the first five verses of surah 96. No further revelations followed for a period of up to two years, at which point Muhammad received reassurance that the revelation was from God, not the devil. Thereafter, revelation continued without interruption until his death in 632 , at which time the Quran was considered complete. Partial collections of the Quran were made during Muhammad’s lifetime by his wives, companions, and scribes. The final, authoritative version was completed and fixed under the direction of the third caliph, Uthman, within twenty years after Muhammad’s death. The Quran consists of 114 surahs (chapters), varying in length from 3 to 286 ayat (verses). Surahs are arranged by length, with the latest and longest surahs at the beginning and the earli- est and shortest surahs at the end. -

ISSN 1567-214x Keywords: Violation - Aleasbuh - Inheritance - Security - Society ABSTRACT I have devoted this research; of the widespread irregularities in the inheritance of the Aleasbuh and its bad impact on Islamic societies. In this research, I dealt with defining who the Aleasbuh is, and then explaining their inheritance in Islam. Then it dealt with the widespread violations, how to deal with them, confront them and reduce them, and limit the crimes resulting from these violations.
