Addllional fests were carrfecl out bo evaluate the feasibiliûy of using 'the echodynamic response charaeterlslics of flaws to predict their general shape. v1 SUMMARY This work was carried oul under Task 2 of NCHRP Pnoject 10-13/1. The aim was to establ-ish whether applicalion of the tandem ultrasonic technique could improve the reliability of rejection of vertical planar flaws using Al,¡S D1 .1 procedures, and whether flaw echodynamic nesponses could be used t,o discriminabe between flaw types. Tests carried out on an array of 92 maehined reflectors and on 9 neal weld flaws using the tandem technique indicated ühat reliabl-e rejection of such flaws could be attained provided fhey were oriented withÍn around 5ö of vertical-. Defects at greater angles were reIÍably rejected by pulse-echo tests bo D1 .1 requirements. It was esfablished that miniature ultrasonic search units operating aL 2MHz provided optimum performance for landem testing. However, defects in some locations cannot be examined due to access problems. Comparison of echodynamie responses from drilled holes and cnacks indicated that the width of the response is nol a reliable discriminator between planan and non-planar flaws. However, eeho pattern appearance does differ markedly between diffenent types of fÌaw and this may be used to predicb flaw type. In order to lo do this, it is necessary to examine the flaw from a number of orientations with more than one ultrasonic beam ang1e. CHAPTER ONE TNTRODUCTION AND RESEARCH APPROACH PROBLEM STATEMENT There is an urgent need fon ultrasonÍc testing procedures thal can be used lo measure the dimensions of weld discontinuilies (f1aws) with sufficient accuracy to permil evaluation using a fracture mechanics approach. Most state bransportation agencies use the provisions of lhe American lrtelding Sociefy Structural Ï'lelding Code AWS D1 .1 ( 1 ) to determine the acceptability of structural we1ds. These prgvisions are based on an assumed relationship between fhe ul-trasonic 'rlndication Ratingrrand flaw size. The results of lhe firsl phase of research (2), as well as other expenience, indicate lhat this relationship is not valid. Reseanch is needed to develop Ímproved ultrasonic testing procedures, using equipmenl pnesently available, that will permit accunate measurement of the dimensions of flaws common to weldmenls. These procedures are needed for use in both shop and field inspection of weldments to detenmine acceptance during conslruction and for in-service evalualion. Reliable procedures for ultrasonic testing will obviate the costs and delays of unnecessary repairs while neducing the probability that defects, which may lead to structural faifures, will be impropenly evaluated. RESEARCH OBJECTIVE The aim of the program as a whole r^,as to derive and to evaluate ultrasonic lechniques which would al-Iow accurate measurements of weld flaw size to be made, thereby permitting fracture mechanics analyses to be used to determine the structural integrily of steel bridges. The previous work (2) demonslrated lhat the most promising technique for accurate measurements of weld fl-aws utilised the measurement of flight time of ul-lrasound diffracted from defecl edges. Standard Classification in detail Para-Cycling sport classes include: Handcycle sport classes H1 – 5: There are five different sport classes for handcycle racing. The lower numbers indicate a more severe activity limitation. Para athletes competing in the H1 classes have a complete loss of trunk and leg function and limited arm function, e.g. as a result of a spinal cord injury. Para athletes in the H4 class have limited or no leg function, but good trunk and arm function. Para cyclists in sport classes H1 – 4 compete in a reclined position. Para cyclists in the H5 sport class sit on their knees because they are able to use their arms and trunk to accelerate the handcycle.

    DOPING CONTROL GUIDE FOR TESTING ATHLETES IN PARA SPORT JULY 2021 INTERNATIONAL PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE 2 1 INTRODUCTION This guide is intended for athletes, anti-doping organisations and sample collection personnel who are responsible for managing the sample collection process – and other organisations or individuals who have an interest in doping control in Para sport. It provides advice on how to prepare for and manage the sample collection process when testing athletes who compete in Para sport. It also provides information about the Para sport classification system (including the types of impairments) and the types of modifications that may be required to complete the sample collection process. Appendix 1 details the classification system for those sports that are included in the Paralympic programme – and the applicable disciplines that apply within the doping control setting. The International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC’s) doping control guidelines outlined, align with Annex A Modifications for Athletes with Impairments of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s International Standard for Testing and Investigations (ISTI). It is recommended that anti-doping organisations (and sample collection personnel) follow these guidelines when conducting testing in Para sport. 2 DISABILITY & IMPAIRMENT In line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), ‘disability’ is a preferred word along with the usage of the term ‘impairment’, which refers to the classification system and the ten eligible impairments that are recognised in Para sports. Classification provides a structure for competition. Athletes competing in para-sports have an impairment that leads to a competitive disadvantage. Consequently, a system has to be put in place to minimise the impact of impairments on sport performance and to ensure the success of an athlete is determined by skill, fitness, power, endurance, tactical ability and mental focus. This system is called classification. Classification determines who is eligible to compete in a para-sport and it groups the eligible athletes in sport classes according to their activity limitation in a certain sport. Please see the glossary in section 8 for an explanation of medical terms used in this document. 2 Ten eligible impairments The Paralympic Movement offers sport opportunities for athletes with physical, visual and/or intellectual impairments that have at least one of the following 10 eligible impairments: Impairment Explanation Impaired muscle Reduced force generated by muscles or muscle groups, may occur in power one limb or the lower half of the body, as caused, for example, by spinal cord injuries, Spina Bifida or Poliomyelitis. Impaired passive Range of movement in one or more joints is reduced permanently. range of movement Joints that can move beyond the average range of motion, joint instability, and acute conditions, such as arthritis, are not considered eligible impairments.   • Para-Cycling Para-Cycling Is Cycling for People with Impairments Resulting from a Health Condition (Disability)
    Paralympic Sport Information Para-Cycling Para-Cycling is cycling for people with impairments resulting from a health condition (disability). Para-Athletes with physical impairments either compete on handcycles, tricycles or bicycles, while those with a visual impairment compete on tandems with a sighted ‘pilot’. Para-Cycling is divided into track and road events, with seven events in total. Classification In Para-Sport classification provides the structure for fair and equitable competition to ensure that winning is determined by skill, fitness, power, endurance, tactical ability and mental focus – the same factors that account for success in sport for able-bodied athletes. The Para-Sport classification assessment process identifies the eligibility of each Para-Athlete’s impairment, and groups them into a sport class according to the degree of activity limitation resulting from their impairment. Classification is sport-specific as an eligible impairment affects a Para-Athlete’s ability to perform in different sports to a different extent. Each Para-Sport has a different classification system. More information on classification and sport classes is available under ‘Classification detail’ below. Qualification – the road to Rio Qualification to secure spots at the Paralympic Games is based on a nation’s ranking in the UCI Para- Cycling Road and Track ‘Combined’ Nations Ranking Allocation system. Para-Athletes generate qualifying points for their nation, which contribute to their nation’s world ranking, by competing at Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) recognised events between 1 January 2014 and 21 March 2016. The number of qualifying spots for New Zealand is expected to be announced in early April 2016.

The first three reports were published by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The fourth report was published by SHARP, the Sport, Health and Activity Research and Policy Center for Women and Girls. SHARP is a research center at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Research on Women and Gender co-founded by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The fifth report, published by the Women’s Sports Foundation, provides the most accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date examination of the participation trends among female Olympic and Paralympic athletes and the hiring trends of Olympic and Paralympic governing bodies with respect to the number of women who hold, leadership positions in these organizations. It is intended to provide governing bodies, athletes, and policymakers at the national and international level with new and accurate information with an eye toward making the Olympic and Paralympic movement equitable for all. The Women’s Sports Foundation provided relevant evidence-based policy recommendations for future planning and action.
