Autonomous vehicles, also known as self-driving cars, represent the future of personal transportation. States have begun to regulate the testing and implantation of this technology onto public highways, and the federal government has suggested baseline regulations for states to consider when proposing future legislation. First, this Comment provides a brief overview of autonomous vehicle technology, as well as the pros and cons of a self- driving vehicle. Second, this Comment analyzes both enacted and proposed legislation at the state level. This Comment then recommends various provisions that states should implement in future legislation and cautions against the inclusion of various provisions that will impede the implementation of autonomous vehicle technology.

BALSAM INTRODUCTION1 In May 2018, the Supreme Court decided Murphy v. NCAA,2 striking down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) that prohibited states from allowing sports betting.3 At this writing, more than two years after PASPA’s judicial repeal, eighteen states have enacted legal sports betting, five states plus Washington, D.C. have passed legislation that is pending launch, and twenty-four more have introduced sports gambling bills.4 Somewhat myopically, these legislative efforts fail to address the game integrity concerns flagged by the sports leagues and other entities that create the contests on which Associate Professor of Clinical Law, Director of Externship Programs, Brooklyn Law School. The photo above is from one of the recent swap meets at the Washington State Fairgrounds. On February 17 and 18, the Early Bird Swap Meet sponsored by the Tacoma Model T Club will take place. As in past years your editor will have a booth in the Show Plex in the center of the fairgrounds. This is probably one of the best swap meets in the State of Washington until the Seattle Swap Meet takes place in May in Monroe. (Your editor will also be there!). On March 17-18, the Almost Spring Swap Meet takes place also in Puyallup. On April 6-8, the perennial Portland Swap Meet takes place. This will be their 54th year. They have more than three miles of booths and is always worth the trip south for the day. If you have the energy, you can also attend the meet going on at the same time at the Portland International Raceway. This meet is a more than a two mile walk around the track. They do have busses to transport you between the meets. As we always do, each month we will let you know the best swap meets to attend within reasonable driving distant from the Puget Sound area. Ein kurzer, aber detailierter Überblick über die Hersteller Automobilamerikas zwischen 1897 und 2018 Wenn Sie regelmäßiger Tow Truck Driver-Leser sind, wissen Sie bestimmt, dass man den amerikanischen Pkw-Markt des 20. Jahrhunderts auf genau 11 Automarken aus drei Konzernen beschränken kann. Sicher gab es noch etliche mehr, aber mal im Ernst – müssen Sie wirklich wissen, was es mit der Maxwell Motor Co. Auf sich hat? Oder mit Oakland? Wahrscheinlich nicht, denn ählich wie fast 2.000 weitere US-Autohersteller sind Maxwell, Oakland und alle anderen mehr als 130 Jahre nach der Erfi ndung des Automobils fast spurlos verschwunden.
