THIS SCHEDULE IS ISSUED SUBJECT TO THE ORDERS AND REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOOD & RURAL AFFAIRS (DEFRA) – ANIMAL GATHERINGS (INTERIM MEASURES) (ENGLAND) ORDER 2003 (OR AS AMENDED).

Entry Fees: The Society is offering concessionary rates in Classes 7 - 196 to exhibitors who are members of the Society. It could well be to your advantage to consider becoming a member. Members’ subscription rates and facilities are detailed below SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP

Membership is an expression of interest in and support for the aims and objects of the Burwarton & District Agricultural Society and includes the right to attend, take part in and vote at the Annual General Meeting. Members are admitted free of charge to the annual Show and to the Members’ facilities on production of their membership badge. The Society will make no refund of membership subscriptions in the event of a Show being cancelled for whatever reason.

Society membership benefits include: Free entrance to the Showground, ONE car pass for reserved forward parking in the Members’ only car park, use of Members’ Dining Pavilion and bar area, Grandstand Seating and use of Members’ high class toilet facilities. Guest membership – Members may introduce one guest each to these facilities on Show day on purchase of a Guest Badge at a cost of £10.00 (adult) or £5.00 (child) from the Information Point situated immediately outside the entrance to the Members’ bar area. Members’ forward parking will be available until 11.30 a.m. or until filled. DOUBLE MEMBERSHIP - TWO Adult Members. £38.00 if purchased before 1 May 2017. £40.00 thereafter.

SINGLE MEMBERSHIP - ONE Adult Member. £24.00 if purchased before 1 May 2017. £26.00 thereafter.

JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP (5-16 years) £5.00 each.

DISABLED MEMBERS Limited Showground parking will be available for registered disabled members, provided prior application is made to the Show Manager. A covered viewing area will be provided adjacent to the Main Ring. A limited number of mobility scooters will be available for hire direct from Event Mobility on 01386 725391. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

CLOSING DATE FOR MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS IS 15 JULY 2017. Membership applications received after this date will incur an additional £5.00 administration fee for each membership. Membership packs will be mailed out in July.

Cattle All exhibitors must ensure that they move their cattle back to home premises with BCMS.

IMPORTANT — BRUCELLOSIS SCHEMES Cows or heifers calving at the Show before the time of judging WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. Cows or heifers which appear about to calve will be placed in isolation and after calving returned home as soon as possible. Cows or heifers showing any abnormal discharge or which appear to be about to abort or which do abort WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE and will be placed in isolation at once. JUNIOR HANDLER CLASSES

Judging of Dairy and Beef Junior handler classes will commence at approximately 2.00 p.m. in the Livestock Rings. Dairy and Beef Junior Handler classes are run at the same time. Competitors can therefore enter only ONE section and not both.

Judging will be based upon presentation and the handler’s capabilities, not on conformation of the calf.

Owners of the cattle must ensure that the young handler is capable of controlling the animal being shown. The animal must be used to being handled and an experienced adult must be present ringside during judging. The judge has the authority to ask any exhibitor not having sufficient control of their animal to leave the ring. PLEASE STATE NAME AND AGE OF HANDLER AND NAME OF CALF WHEN ENTERING. ALL EXHIBITORS & COMPETITORS - Livestock SAFETY STANDARDS

1. It is the responsibility of all Exhibitors to ensure that all their staff are fully briefed on safety standards. 2. Exhibitors’ attention is drawn to the following points: - Exhibitors must ensure that leaders are sufficiently experienced and that animals wear suitable restraining harness. - All exhibitors must use the official walkways for movement of livestock to and from their judging rings. - All exhibitors must follow designated traffic routes. - Animals must not be left unattended whilst the Show is open to the public. - No animal may enter the Showground if its place of origin is under health restriction. - Animal health legislation will be enforced by the Shropshire Council, and all exhibitors will be deemed to comply with this legislation. -Junior Handlers: All young handlers must be capable of controlling the animal being shown. The animals must be used to being handled and an experienced adult must be present ringside during judging in case of an emergency. The judge has the authority to ask any exhibitor not having sufficient control of their animal to leave the ring. 3. As milking practices fall under the dairy hygiene regulations there must be no machine milking in the lines. - Sheep Maedi Visna Accredited Flock Scheme. Exhibitors should ensure that if their sheep are in the scheme, they do not come into contact with non-scheme sheep. 4. Fire: In the event of a fire occurring the following action must be taken: Immediately notify the Show Manager, giving exact details of the location. Follow Steward’s instructions. In the absence of a Steward ensure that everyone retreats to a safe area away from the fire and clear the approach roads. If it is safe to do so tackle the fire with extinguishers until the Fire Service arrives. Any directive given by the Fire Service or Police must be followed. 5. Veterinary presence: The on-duty vet should be contacted via the Livestock commentators, Chief Stewards or Stewards. 6. Evacuation of Livestock: Should it be necessary to evacuate livestock, exhibitors must comply with Stewards’ instructions. Remember to keep accredited stock separate. 7. Gazebos should not obstruct the view from the Commentary boxes and MUST be erected over animal pens only and NOT extend into alleyways causing obstruction.

FOR THESE MEASURES TO BE EFFECTIVE, EVERYONE MUST TAKE ALL REASONABLE PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID AND PREVENT ACCIDENTS OCCURRING AND MUST OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS OF SOCIETY OFFICIALS AND STEWARDS AT ALL TIMES.VEHICLES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE LIVESTOCK LORRY/CAR PARK EITHER BEFORE OR WHILST THE GRAND PARADE ENTRY OR EXIT IS IN PROGRESS.

ALL DOGS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED FROM ALL AREAS OF THE LIVESTOCK FIELD. IN THE INTERESTS OF HEALTH AND SAFETY THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED ON SHOW DAY.

EXHIBITOR GAZEBOS SHOULD NOT OBSTRUCT THE VIEW OF THE COMMENTARY BOXES AND MUST BE ERECTED OVER ANIMAL PENS ONLY AND NOT EXTEND INTO PEDESTRIAN ALLEYWAYS CAUSING OBSTRUCTION.

The Society is required to retain a list of registration numbers of all vehicles transporting livestock to/from the Show. Please ensure you include this on the reverse of your entry form(s).

Rules And By-Laws for the regulation of the Show. - Livestock ALL dogs are strictly prohibited from all areas of the LIVESTOCK FIELD. In the interests of Health and Safety this rule will be strictly enforced on Show day.

1 Exhibitors shall be responsible for the correctness of their entries, which must be lodged with the Show Manager on or before the dates fixed and published. No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by the appropriate fees. Cheques should be made payable to the Burwarton and District Agricultural Society. 2 The Society cannot be held responsible for any incorrect information supplied by Exhibitors and produced in the catalogue. 3 All exhibits in the Agricultural Classes must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor and must have been their property and on their premises for at least three months prior to the Show. 4 Judges and Stewards have the authority to disqualify any unruly animal from the show, if, in their opinion, it is behaving in such a way likely to cause accident and/or injury to other animals, competitors, their associates or any member of the public. 5 The Committee reserve the right to refuse any entry and also to accept any entry provisionally. 6 The Committee reserve the right to withhold any of the prizes offered: (1) if in the opinion of the Judges, the exhibits do not possess sufficient merit, or (2) from any competitor or exhibitor whose entry does not appear in the Catalogue under the appropriate class unless specifically stated otherwise in the Schedule. 7 The Committee reserve the right to cancel or amalgamate any Class of insufficient entries. Any pure bred beef breed classes with insufficient entries will be amalgamated into the Any Pure Bred Beef Cattle section. Exhibitors will be notified of any cancellation or amalgamation prior to Show Day. 8 Any breed champion from Class nos. 7-54 and 60-72 not forward in the Inter-Breed Championships will automatically forfeit the £25.00 Champion award. 9 All exhibits will be considered as being in the sole charge of the exhibitor and every exhibitor shall be responsible for any loss or damage caused by such exhibits. 10 The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify and demand the removal from the Showground of any animal which, in their opinion, is suffering from, or affected with, a contagious or infectious disease, and all entrance fees for such animals shall be forfeited. 11 The Society expects all exhibitors to comply with Breed Society rules for showing of animals whilst on the showground. The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify any exhibitor found to be contravening welfare regulations. 12 The Society, its Officers and servants, shall not be responsible to any person whatsoever whilst entering, on, or leaving the showground, for any damage or loss, however caused to the property of such person, or for any injury, fatal or otherwise, to any such person.The Society, its Officers and servants shall not be responsible for any accident, damage, loss however caused that may occur to any exhibitor or their employee or to any animal, article, or property brought into the showground, or whilst entering, on or leaving, or being carried into or out of the said showground. The exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any loss, injury, or damage that may be done to, or occasioned by, or arising from any animal, article or property exhibited or brought into the showground by him/her and he/she shall indemnify and hold harmless the Society from all action, suits, expenses and claims on account of, or in respect of any such damage or injury which may be so caused or occasioned. 13 All livestock exhibits shall be in place on the Showground not later than 9.30 a.m. on the morning of the Show, in charge of an attendant, who will be required to conform with the Rules and Regulations of the Society or instructions from Stewards, and no exhibit shall be removed before 4.30 p.m. without written permission from the Show Manager. 14 No exhibitor shall act as Steward in the class in which they exhibit. No person will be allowed in the Judging Ring except Judges, Officials, authorised Stewards and Competitors. 15 A Grand Parade of all Champion, Reserve Champion, first, second and third placed cattle and sheep will take place at an appointed time. 16 All objections must be made in writing to the Show Manager within one hour of the finish of the event, together with a deposit of £25.00 for each objection, which will be forfeited if the objection is deemed frivolous. Objections will be considered by the Committee, and their decision shall be final. 17 The Committee reserve the right to alter the timing of events, but the order of the Schedule will be adhered to if possible. 18 CHALLENGE CUPS. With the exception of the Perpetual Challenge Cups, all Challenge Cups are to become the property of exhibitors winning them three times in succession or four times in all. All Breed Champions must parade for judging for the Supreme Championship Challenge Cups. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of all prize money and other awards gained by the animal concerned. Winners must undertake to return all Challenge Cups not later than 30 June, 2018. 19 The decision of the Committee, or anyone appointed by them, in all cases of dispute and on all questions as to the conduct of the Show, shall be absolutely final. 20 All unclaimed prize money will be mailed to exhibitors by 31 August. No prize money or refunds will be paid after 30 September in the year of the Show. All cheques to be banked by 30 September 2017. Any cheques not banked within statutory six month period will be treated as a donation to the Society. 21 Exhibitors are required to abide by the Safety Standards listed on page 25.

CHARITABLE GRANTS The Burwarton and District Agricultural Society Limited has limited funds available to make grants to assist in the furtherance of any of the following objects of the Society:—

1. The improvement of livestock, the advancement of breeding and the prevention and eradication of animal diseases. 2. The advancement of science and research in connection with agriculture and rural industries. 3. The development and improvement of crops and prevention and eradication of plant diseases and pests. 4. The development and improvement of agricultural machinery and equipment. 5. The holding of demonstrations and lectures on modern agricultural methods and processes. 6. The promotion of agricultural education and training. 7. The encouragement of Young Farmers Clubs and of activities related to agriculture by other youth organisations. 8. The encouragement of rural crafts and industries of interest to the farming community. 9. The promotion of co-operation between farmers and other land users with special reference to conserv ation. 10. The promotion of co-operation between rural and urban communities. Application for grants to assist projects that further any of the above objects should be made in writing to The Secretary of the Society at The Show Office, Burwarton, Bridgnorth, Shropshire WV16 6QJ by 14 February.
