Peer Ministry

The Peer Ministry Team is an appoint- ed group of students who function like the Newman Center’s student council. They work under the guidance of the chaplain to develop, organize, and present the majority of the activities throughout the year.

Men’s and Women’s Groups

The St. Therese Women’s Group and the St. John Men’s Group both are a way to explore your faith at a deeper level with people who probably have some of the same questions, confusions, and intentions as you. We grow closer to God and each other through fellowship, service, and prayer.

“Blow the trumpet in Zion, sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all who dwell in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming.” -Joel 2:1 Newman Choir

Come be a part of the rejoicing that goes on every week! Singers and instrumentalists alike are always wel- come for both the 11am and 5pm Masses and practices are Wednesday nights. The music is is always tailored to the readings and liturgical seasons and has lots of variety. As is welcome with all Newman activities, come with your ideas, strategies, and enthusiasm. 5 FOCUS

Fellowship of Catholic University Students places missionaries on campuses all over the country. We are lucky to be a part of the FOCUS program that leads Bible studies and whose mission is to invite college students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church, inspire and equip them for a life- time of Christ-centered evangelization, disci- pleship, and friendship in which they lead others to do the same. St. Vincent de Paul Outreach Program

Our service leaders are fantastic about connect- ing students with service opportunities in the Tulsa area. Students can volunteer weekly at a site, participate in large-group outreach days, or contribute in any other way that fits their sched- uled. No car? No problem. We always organize a carpool from Newman to each event. Making sure we are all part of a team that helps each other and those around us is vital. Liturgical Team

The student community is a huge part of the Mass at Newman. Getting trained to be a Lector, Extraordinary minister of Holy Com- munion, Usher, Server, or Sacristan is simple and a great way to be more involved in the Mass, become more intimate with the Lord, and be around other students and commu- nity members who share your faith. Intramural Sports

TU’s intramural sports leagues are unlike any other! Face off against halls, greeks, and other campus groups for the championship title! Newman has teams for flag football, basketball, volleyball, and more. Starting a new team is easy and a marvelous way to stay active while bonding with other Newmanites. 6 Some of the Usual Some of our usual semester activites-- we’ll always have an updated calendar on our website!

Chaplain Office Hours: Some- times, you just need to speak to a priest. We have a full-time chaplain just for that reason. Drop by or simply touch base with Father Kerry to organize a time.

Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman

Born in London in 1801, he was originally ordained an Anglican priest, later becoming Vicar of St. Mary’s Church in Oxford where he exerted a pro- found spiritual influence on the Church of England. He joined the Catholic Church in 1845, eventually being made a Cardinal by Pope Leo XIII in 1879. His name is honored at Catholic Student Centers all over the world for his important work in education, his concepts of what a university should be, his writings on the search for truth, and his aid to those having religious difficulties.

Saint Philip Romolo Neri

Saint Philip Neri was born in Florence, Italy in 1515 and is noted for his intense spirituality, humility, humor, and willingness to accept all people making an honest attempt to devote their lives to God. Our Newman Center is dedicated to St. Philip Neri by virtue of his ministry to young adults and the use of humor and practical jokes to encourage them not to take themselves too seriously, remembering that humor is a gift from God.
