Whose sins you forgive are forgiven…” (John 20:21—23) THE SPIRIT AND THE CHURCH IN THE LAST DAYS The Meaning of Pentecost…(from Catechism of the Catholic Church) 731 On the day of Pentecost when the seven weeks of Easter had come to an end, Christ's Passover is fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, manifested, given, and communicated as a divine person: of his fullness, Christ, the Lord, pours out the Spirit in abundance.[Cf. Acts 2:3336][2623,767,1302] 732 On that day, the Holy Trinity is fully revealed. Since that day, the Kingdom announced by Christ has been open to those who believe in him: in the humility of the flesh and in faith, they already share in the communion of the Holy Trinity. By his coming, which never ceases, the Holy Spirit causes the world to enter into the "last days," the time of the Church, the Kingdom already inherited though not yet consummated. [244,672] We have seen the true Light, we have received the heavenly Spirit, we have found the true faith: we adore the indivisible Trinity, who has saved us.[Byzantine liturgy, Pentecost Ves- pers, Troparion, repeated after communion] 696FireNOne of the Symbols of the Holy Spirit: While water signifies birth and the fruitfulness of life given in the Holy Spirit, fire symbolizes the transforming energy of the Holy Spirit's actions. The prayer of the prophet Elijah, who "arose like fire" and whose "word burned like a torch," brought down fire from heaven on the sacrifice on Mount Car- mel. This event was a "figure" of the fire of the Holy Spirit, who transforms what he touches. John the Baptist, who goes "before [the Lord] in the spirit and power of Elijah," proclaims Christ as the one who "will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire." Jesus will say of the Spirit: "I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled!" In the form of tongues "as of fire," the Holy Spirit rests on the disciples on the morning of Pentecost and fills them with himself. The spiritual tradition has retained this symbolism of fire as one of the most expressive images of the Holy Spirit's actions. "Do not quench the (fire of the) Spirit." (1 Thes 5:1) PASTOR Rev.     GUIDE TO MINISTRY COMMITMENT FOR 2016-2017 LITURGICAL MINISTRIES The Eucharistic Liturgy is the source and summit of Catholic life. All members of God’s Holy Church are called to active participation in the Mass. Please consider participating in one of the following ministries that are integral to our worship. ALTAR SERVER: This ministry is open to all parishioners 4th grade and older. Servers assist the presiding priest in the processional, setting and clearing the altar and holding the Roman Missal for prayers. You will receive training for this ministry and will serve with an experienced server initially. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: Eucharistic ministers are parishioners who have been confirmed and have been commissioned to distribute Holy Communion at Mass. Eucharistic Ministers are required to attend a training session before being scheduled. LECTORS: Newman Center parishioners who are high school age or older and have been confirmed may serve as Lectors. These men and women proclaim the Word of God at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Lectors are required to attend a training session before being scheduled. LITURGY COORDINATORS: Liturgy Coordinators ensure that everything necessary for Mass is set up and in place before Mass begins. Coordinators recruit additional ministers as needed for Mass and assist where needed during Mass. Coordinators are also responsible for making sure that items are properly cleaned and stored after Mass. You will receive training for this ministry and will shadow an experienced coordinator before you do this on your own. MUSIC MINISTRY/CHOIR: At each Mass choir members lead the congregational singing and individual cantors are recruited from the choir.

    The Newman Center at Muhlenberg College 26 August 2020 Transverberation of the Heart of St. Teresa of Ávila Dear students, faculty, staff, and friends of the Catholic community at Muhlenberg College, Know that you are all in my prayers during these difficult times. I know that the coronavirus pandemic has caused many difficulties for everyone within our community. I am remembering especially in my prayers the Graduating Class of 2020, who were made to miss many memorable moments due to the precautions that the pandemic forced us to take, and our all of our new students joining the Muhlenberg family this year, especially the Graduating Class of 2024, whose first semester will be something quite different than they were likely expecting college life to be. I am writing to give you all an update on what Catholic Campus Ministry’s plans are for the coming semester. Due to the precautions that the College has put in place for the safety of all involved, most especially our students, things will look a little different during the Fall 2020 academic semester than what we are used to experiencing as part of Catholic life at Muhlenberg College. Nonetheless, my hope is that all involved with Catholic Campus ministry will help all of the Catholic members of the Muhlenberg community experience a vibrant Catholic life during these difficult times. As such, please see the following points related to Catholic life at Muhlenberg College this semester. MASS Unfortunately, the policies that the College has implemented to safeguard the health of our community, combined with the liturgical law of the Catholic Church, make it difficult to offer Mass on campus this semester, at least for the foreseeable future.
