January 10, 2005, Atlanta, Ga. – The founder and publisher of Gospel Today magazine, Teresa Hairston, will host the Gospel Heritage Foundation’s annual Praise & Worship Conference in the city of Atlanta February 10-12, 2005. Some of the world’s most renowned musicians, singers and praise and worship leaders will all converge on the city for three power packed days. Participating in the conference will be Grammy, Stellar and Dove award winning artists. In attendance will be Kirk Franklin, Andrae Crouch, Donnie McClurkin, Daryl Coley, Hezekiah Walker, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Fred Hammond and a host of other gospel music pioneers. Conference seminars, workshops, banquets and events will be held at two locations in Atlanta – Word of Faith Worship Center in Austell and the Airport Renaissance Hotel. Historically, this will be the fourth year the conference will be held. Making it even more special this year is the McDonald’s® Corporation hosting of the Youth Division. Highlights will include the Youth/Choir competition to be held at the Renaissance Hotel on Saturday, February 12th at 2:30 p.m. Prizes for the competition will be cash scholarships totaling $10,000. As an incentive to the community, Ms. Hairston has opened all of the conferences evening sessions to the public free of charge. The evening sessions, which will be hosted at Word of Faith Cathedral (Austell, GA), include the Gospel Heritage Awards on February 10th, a live CD recording on Friday, February 11th, and the closing conference celebration with Bishop Noel Jones on Saturday, February 12th. Back in 1996, Hairston formed The Gospel Heritage Foundation as a 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit organization with a mission to educate people from around the world about the history and significance of America’s Gospel genre. The big picture is crystallizing with each passing year as more and more young people are given an opportunity to learn about Gospel as well as share their talents in the genre on a national stage. Key leaders in the Gospel industry have united to make the vision of the GHF reality. In the future, the organization plans to establish an International Center for Gospel Heritage (ICGH), which will stand as a physical monument to those who have pioneered in the Gospel field. The International Center for Gospel Heritage will also become a place where Gospel musicians, singers, songwriters, producers, marketers, promoters, publishers, writers and publicists for Gospel can find resources of information, education and empowerment to perpetuate the great Gospel legacy. Ongoing efforts to establish this location include fundraising at the annual Gospel Heritage “Praise & Worship” Conference and publishing royalties and a percentage of sales from a CD recorded at the Conference. • Who So Ever Will” Sunday Music & Worship Resources
“WHO SO EVER WILL” SUNDAY MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES Sunday, October 13, 2013 Cornelius V. Johnson III, Guest Lectionary Liturgist Minister of Music, Transformations Church, Chicago, IL Worship Planning Notes The purpose of this worship experience is to celebrate without judgment, the unique people that God created each of us as. It is a day that we put aside our differences and other extraneous distractions that would take our focus away from the fact that we are all created in God’s image. The Bible says, “For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well” (Psalm 139:13-14, NRSV). This includes all of humanity, people of different racial backgrounds, social statuses, sexual orientations, different abilities, different theological beliefs, and the list goes on. For many in our congregations, the concept of intentionally celebrating our differences may prove to be a difficult task initially. However, if we first accept that God made us exactly as we are, then we can begin to celebrate our diversity. The pastor, worship leaders, and other church leaders can help guide your church to a greater worship experience by selecting music, prayers, and a sermon that focuses our attention on the fact that not only is grace a gift from God, but so is diversity. Much care 1 should be given to proper planning for this service, particularly given the likely presence of children and youth. I have listed references for showing diversity and being inclusive in your worship experience.

  • 2011 MMUF Journal Highlights the Intellectual Efforts of Current Fellows and Recent Alumni Alike
The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Journal 2011 A collection of scholarly research by fellows of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program Preface Having the opportunity to contribute to the essential mission of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) mission for a fourth year by assembling the collection of articles by undergraduate fellows has been an immense pleasure. Reducing the severe under-representation of certain minority groups in higher education is no small task, yet the MMUF program has risen to the challenge. Through its support of more than 3,700 undergrad- uates, the MMUF program is facilitating the journey to the PhD for more than 600 fellows and has already assisted more than 400 fellows to earn their doctorates and begin teaching. The program continues to play a critical role in increasing the number of minority students and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities in the pursuit of PhDs in the arts and sciences—offering significant progress in the aim of diversifying faculties across the nation. The 2011 MMUF Journal highlights the intellectual efforts of current fellows and recent alumni alike. This year, there was an overwhelming response to the call for Fellows to showcase their original research, resulting in an unprecedented number of submissions. While we could not include each one, these 31 articles are indicative of the breadth and depth of insight represented in the program’s 21 fields of designated study.1 These articles explore a range of topics: from Bradley Craig’s and CaVar Reid’s pieces that challenge us to rethink popular and scholarly his- torical narratives on the manifestations of black masculinity and responsibility, to Irtefa Binte-Faird’s analysis that expands our notions of the actors engaged in the struggle for India’s liberation.

Conglomerate: Sony Corporation 1 Conglomerate: Sony Corporation Tiffany Yang San Jose State University Conglomerate: Sony Corporation 2 Abstract The research paper is about the Japanese conglomerate― Sony Corporation in terms of its history, growth, holdings, and ramifications of ownership. Sony Corporation is a world-wide corporation that ranges different businesses in different countries. The corporation started as an electronic company and became a conglomerate by jointing with other big companies, absorbing small/medium companies, and establishing its new companies. Because having a successful company value and strong strategies, the corporation is getting stronger; however, the achievement did not show on the numbers on the 2010 annual report. The revenue of 2010 has decreased compare to last year. Even though the numbers are not perfect, the Sony Corporation as a whole presents a strong public identity with little domination in a particular medium. On the other hand, Sony Corporation does not show intention of money, but the term of the Sony does: A “Corporation” categorized as a “Conglomerate”— means it intends to make money by expanding its businesses to different industries. • Getting Permission
Getting Permission Participants must secure written consent to use any music that is not original or in the public domain (entries will be disqualified without proper consent) To obtain permission to use a work protected by copyright, you must determine who is the copyright owner of the material you intend to use, contact the owner, and request the right to use the work in the territory and format you intend, and -- in some cases -- pay the owner a fee. Often the most difficult part of this process is finding the owner to ask permission to use the work. To make that a little easier, we have provided some information about researching copyright ownership for music, with addresses of record companies and music publishers, as well as film and television producers, publishers and other entities through which you might be able to clear rights. In addition, we have provided sample permission letters for you to use in drafting your letter to the copyright owners once you have identified them. Music Publisher Contacts Obtaining permission to use music is sometimes a little more confusing than obtaining permission to use other types of copyrighted works, because there are two different rights in any piece of recorded music: the rights to the song itself, which is what can be written on sheet music, and the rights to the particular recording. The songwriter(s) owns the rights to the song itself, but generally grants those rights to a "music publisher" to administer the rights. A particular recording of the song (what's on the CD) is generally owned by the record company that released the CD.
