Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Within the recently resurrected family Inachoididae is Leurocyclus tuberculosus, an inachoidid spider crab distributed throughout the Western Atlantic of South America from Brazil to Argentina (including Patagonia), and along the Eastern Pacific coast of Chile. The larval development of L. tuberculosus consists of two zoeal stages and one megalopa. We observed that the larval morphology of L. tuberculosus conforms to the general pattern found in Majoidea by having two zoeal stages, in which the first stage has nine or more seta on the scaphognatite of the maxilla, and the second zoeal stage present well developed pleopods. Here, we describe the larval morphology of L. tuberculosus and compare with other inachoidid members for which we have larval information. Monthly samples were taken from May 2000 to October 2001 at stations near the Keihin Canal along the northern shore of Tokyo Bay. Stomach contents of 367 crabs (male n = 200, female n = 167) were examined. Carapace width ranged from 18.50 mm to 60.67 mm. Eleven food categories were identified: Bivalvia (mostly Mytilus galloprovincialis), other Mollusca, Cirripedia, Amphipoda, Brachyura, other Crustacea, Poly- chaeta, Pisces, unidentified animal materials, plant materials, and unidentified materials. The results showed that C. aestuarii is an omnivorous predator and that its diet depends greatly upon the availability of local prey species, especially in intertidal areas. Moreover, the analysis found no significant differences in the feeding habits of crabs of different sizes or sexes. CARCINUS MAENAS: A DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY OF AN INVASIVE SHORE CRAB IN THE NEW ENGLAND ROCKY INTERTIDAL Madeline Cole Department of Biology, Clark University, Worcester, MA 016101 Abstract: Carcinus maenas (Green Crab) is an invasive crab species on the east and west coasts of the United States dating back to 1817. The introduction of another invasive species in 1988, Hemigrapsus sanguineus (Asian Shore Crab), has created competitive interactions between the crabs. A demographic study was conducted to compare crab populations. A total of 155 crabs were collected, 25 of which were C. maenas and 130 H. sanguineus. There are significantly more male Green Crabs (21) than female Green Crabs (4) (p>.0001). There are also significantly more female Asian Shore Crabs (81) than males (49) (p>.0001). Correlations between width and limb loss also exist such that as the width of the Asian Shore Crab carapace increases, the number of autotomized limbs increases (p>.0001). These results lead to important questions and further studies regarding competition between these invasive species. First recorded on the Atlantic coast of the United States in 1817, it has since successfully invaded the east and west coasts. C. maenas is a small shore crab, measuring about 75mm across as an adult. The dorsal side of the carapace ranges from a dark green to brown with yellow patches. Predators in the recipient area, including native and previously established non-native predators, can prevent establishment, limit habitat use, and reduce abundance of non-native species. Management efforts by humans using methods designed to cause mass mortality (e.g., trapping, biocide applications) can reduce or eradicate non-native populations. -

Carcinus aestuarii has characteristics as followings: cardiac, hepartic and brachial regions are divided by deep furrow; shape of three lobes in frontal area is flatter with hairy; inside of carpus is with one sharp tooth; the posterior-lateral margin of the carapace is concave, and so on. The examined specimen doesn’t have hairy and bump on outer margin of the chelipeds which differed from the previous description of the specimens collected from Tokyo Bay, Japan. Here, the diagnosis and the picture of Korean specimen is provided. Korean portunoids currently consist of 20 species belonging to 10 genera. DeStrandvlo3l(3-4) 230129 78 Occurrence of the grey swimming crab Polybius vernalis (Risso, 1827) on Rathiln Island, Northern Ireland: northernmost record so far (Crustacea, Decapoda, Brachyura) Cédric d'Udekem d'Acoz In Northwest Europe, the grey swimming crab Polybius vernalis (Risso, 1827) has long been confused with its close relatives P. holsatus (Fabricius, 1798) and P. marmoreus (Leach, 1814) (d'Udekem d'Acoz & Rappé, 1991; Ingle & Clark, 1998, as Liocarcinus spp.). It is not yet known how far north its distribution reaches, but its northernmost published record was from Clew Bay, Clare Island, west coast of Ireland, 53°47.4'N 009o51.6'W (McCarthy et al., 2005), and on the East coast of the British Isles, it was recorded as far north as River Orwell, 51058.64'N 001o16.50'E (Ashelby, 2006). A more northern record is reported here: a dead female missing its chelipeds, carapace size 25 x 31 mm, washed ashore at Rathlin Island, Church Bay, Northern Ireland, 55017'I8"N 006oir25"W,20.vii.2011 (fig. 1). When collected, it was uniformly greyish in colour and was partly overgrown by filamentous algae.
