Team Ontario Selection Qualifiers: Session A Team Ontario Selection The 2013‐2014 Season officially began with over 200 athletes competing at the Team Ontario Selection event, hosted by Borden Gymnastics. This is not only the first competition of the season but also the first competition using the new OCP rules. Thank you to Borden Gymnastics and all the judges for the professionalism and hard work. Both did a fantastic job! Qualifiers: Session A Qualifiers Thank you to Pickering, Niagara Acro Cats, Blenheim‐Kent, Twisters and Burlington for hosting Session A qualifiers this season. As we gear up for the remainder of Provincial Qualifiers, there are a few things we would like you to remember: Contents Withdrawals Please communicate all withdrawals as soon as possible to the host clubs Team Ontario Selection 1 (and copy the Women’s Program Manager at Qualifiers: Session A 1 [email protected]) so that all changes can be made to athlete Team Ontario 2014 2 draws. National Stream Cup 3 Make‐Up Qualifiers – Petition Process Elite Canada 3 There are no refunds or transferable monies for athletes who have Ontario Championships 3 missed a qualifier but a qualifier can be made up due to: medical reasons, other gymnastics commitments and extenuating circumstances through Level 1‐4 Camps/Clinics 3 the Petition Process found in the Technical Rules and Regulations Section Awards Banquet 4 C. Make up Petitions will be granted on a first come first serve basis and Updated Technical Rules & availability of space. The Petition Application can be found on the website under Resource>Forms>Forms for Competition. Clubs are able Regulations 5 to request which qualifier they would prefer to attend as a make‐up Documents in Effect 5 qualifier and every effort will be made to accommodate the request Athletes in the News 5 based on the registered numbers at that qualifier. Granted petitions will be required to send $80.00 (non‐refundable) payable directly to the host club. Refunds Refunds will be granted at the end of the season for any athlete that has not competed in ANY of the three qualifiers. Refunds for those athletes eligible must submit a request to the Women’s Program Manager no later than 2 weeks after the last qualifier. Reminder: Gymnastics Ontario has changed email addresses.     CAMBRIDGE SPORTS HALL OF FAME Victoria Moors November 5, 1996 - Coached by longtime Cambridge coach Elvira Saadi, Victoria Ashley Moors represented Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the same Games in which middle-distance runner Nathan Brannen, also from Cambridge, represented Canada in the 1500 metres. Her younger sister Brooklyn, also coached by Saadi, would go on to compete at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal. Moors got her start under Saadi, herself a former Olympian who com- peted for Russia at the 1976 Montreal Games, at an early age and in 2010 she competed at Elite Canada in Gatineau, Quebec. Saadi has a long and successful coaching history in Canada. She coached Canadian Olympians including Cambridge's Yvonne Tousek and Crystal Gilmore. At the Elite Canada event, Moors won the all-around competition with a score of 53.100. In event finals, she placed first on vault, scoring 13.450; first on uneven bars, scoring 13.400; and first on floor, scoring 15.250. It was a portent of things to come. In May 2011 Moors won the all-around title at the Canadian Championships in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, with a score of 56.925. In event finals, she placed third on vault, scoring 13.625; first on uneven bars, scoring 13.925; and first on floor, scoring 15.425. At that time Moors left the Cambridge Kips gymnastics club — the club founded by Don and Benita Rope many years earlier — to follow her coach Saadi, who had begun the Dynamo Gymnastics club, which was also located in Cambridge.

Taking place April 9 to 12, the championships feature some of the world’s best artistic, trampoline and rhythmic gymnasts. “This competition is about building strong relationships and friendships among the Pacific Rim nations. I would like to thank Gymnastics Canada and Gymnastics BC for accepting to host these championships in Richmond, BC,” said Jean-Paul Caron, President, Pacific Alliance of National Gymnastics Federations. “Canada is renowned for being one the best hosts in the world with warm and friendly hospitality. We are extremely pleased to be back in Canada for the 2014 Pacific Rim Championships.” Close to 300 athletes from 17 countries around the Pacific Ocean are expected to compete.     2021 Induction Ceremony Cam Allan, left, Al Findlay, Don Rope and Gord Renwick, in the early days of the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame, 1998. All were instrumental in helping get the CSHF off the ground and were subsequently inducted into the Hall. The first display at the Cambridge Centre, in the winter of 1997-98, was Cambridge at the Olympics. Both Rope and Renwick loaned some of their Olympic Games memorabilia to the exhibit. Sadly, Findlay and Renwick passed away in the last year, as did Bob Cunningham, himself an inductee and sponsor of the scholarship program for high school athletes. Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame Committee The Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit charitable organization. CAMBRIDGE SPORTS HALL OF FAME Randy Steinman July 27, 1959 - Preston native Randy Steinman spent 40 years in radio and television, as an announcer, sportscaster and news reporter.
