To Equip and Inspire... Sea to Summit: There’S a Story Behind the Name 08 to equipandinspire... to Sea to Summit Buyers Directory Sea to Summit: There’s a story behind the name... In 1984 a small group of climbers from the world’s flattest continent pulled off an audacious ascent of Mount Everest - they put a new route up the north face in lightweight style with no oxygen or sherpa support. Six years later, one of the summiteers, Tim Macartney-Snape decided to return to Everest in an attempt to climb the mountain from sea level. The first ascent of Everest from sea to summit. Needing some custom made bags for this lightweight adventure, Tim turned to climbing friend and sewing enthusiast Roland Tyson, who was able to help. Tim repaid Roland with information for a bold ski traverse of the Kashmir Himalaya that Roland had lined up for the same year as the Sea To Summit expedition. The team included champion Australian kayaker Matt Dalziel and Indian architect and climber Paramjeet (PJ) Singh, all of who continue their friendship today and work together at Sea To Summit. In January 1990, at the same time as Roland’s team were successfully running the gauntlet of avalanches and icy slopes on their traverse, Tim had a swim in the tepid waters of India’s Bay of Bengal then set off on foot across the Gangetic plain toward the distant Himalayan foothills. Four months later, after climbing alone from Base Camp and without the assistance of oxygen, Tim set foot once again on the highest point on earth. Tim’s solo ascent of Mt. Everest was named the “Sea to Summit” expedition. Back in Australia, Tim joined forces with Roland to build a business that could make use of their outdoor knowledge and those of like-minded enthusiasts like Matt and PJ to create truly ingenious, well-made but affordable outdoor equipment. They named their company Sea to Summit after Tim’s expedition and the business prospered providing innovative gear to a growing band of outdoor enthusiasts all over the world. Insecticide treated nets (ITNs) are an important item in the reduction of the spread of Malaria and other vector borne diseases (leishmaniasis and filariasis). Permethrin is an insecticide that will daze mosquitoes on contact, on repeated contact the insect will die. The dosage used on our nets does not harm humans. Permethrin treatment will dissipate with time and washing. Permethrin is a very safe and effective insecticide which the WHO* recommends for the reduction of malaria and other vector borne diseases. *(World Health Organisation) Permethrin is a synthetic insecticide that is very safe to humans and quickly degrades in the natural environment, leaving no residual toxicity. Sea To Summit mosquito nets are treated with a low concentration of Permethrin that is toxic and deterrent to insects such as mosquitoes, bed bugs, fleas and midges. Developed from naturally occurring pyrethrum which has a long and safe history for the effective control of insects, Permethrin adheres well to fabrics. Mosquito Nets Ideal for travellers, backpackers and outback camping, these Mozzie Nets are light, compact and are essential for travel in areas where mosquito borne disease is a risk. The mesh allows for good airflow and visibility while the generous sizing, mattress skirting and adjustability keeps the netting well away from body parts.

  • Evolution of Traditional Bags FRANSISCA WIDJAJA INTRODUCTION
Evolution of Traditional bags FRANSISCA WIDJAJA INTRODUCTION A bag or usually known regionally as a sack is a common tool in the form of a non-rigid container. The use of bags predates recorded history, with the earliest bags being no more than lengths of animal skin, cotton, or woven plant fibers, folded up at the edges and secured in that shape with strings of the same material. Despite their simplicity, bags have been fundamental for the development of human civilization, as they allow people to easily collect loose materials such as berries or food grains, and to transport more items than could readily be carried in the hands. The word probably has its origins in the Norse word baggi, from the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European bʰak, but is also comparable to the Welsh baich (load, bundle), and the Greek βάσταγμα (bástagma, load). Cheap disposable paper bags and plastic shopping bags are very common in the retail trade as a convenience for shoppers, and are often supplied by the shop for free or for a small fee. Customers may also take their own shopping bags to some shops. Although paper had been used for purposes of wrapping and padding in ancient China since the 2nd century BC, the first use of paper bags (for preserving the flavor of tea) in China came during the later Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD). ARHUACA MOCHILA This is a traditional Colomian bag called as Arhuaca knapsack in Englsih, or tutu iku in ika. Popular as a Colombian artisan bag made by Arhuaco people of the Sierra Nevada.
