Borrego and Dolores Castro * Departamento de Microbiología, Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Málaga, 29017 Málaga, Spain; [email protected] (E.J.V.); [email protected] (A.M.L.); [email protected] (J.J.B.) * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +34-952134214 Received: 8 May 2019; Accepted: 30 May 2019; Published: 1 June 2019 Abstract: Different developmental stages of Artemia spp. (metanauplii, juveniles and adults) were bath-challenged with two isolates of the Lymphocystis disease virus (LCDV), namely, LCDV SA25 (belonging to the species Lymphocystis disease virus 3) and ATCC VR-342 (an unclassified member of the genus Lymphocystivirus). Viral quantification and gene expression were analyzed by qPCR at different times post-inoculation (pi). In addition, infectious titres were determined at 8 dpi by integrated cell culture (ICC)-RT-PCR, an assay that detects viral mRNA in inoculated cell cultures. In LCDV-challenged Artemia, the viral load increased by 2–3 orders of magnitude (depending on developmental stage and viral isolate) during the first 8–12 dpi, with viral titres up to 2.3 102 × Most Probable Number of Infectious Units (MPNIU)/mg. Viral transcripts were detected in the infected Artemia, relative expression values showed a similar temporal evolution in the different experimental groups. Moreover, gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) fingerlings were challenged by feeding on LCDV-infected metanauplii. Although no Lymphocystis symptoms were observed in the fish, the number of viral DNA copies was significantly higher at the end of the experimental trial and major capsid protein (mcp) gene expression was consistently detected. -

CULTURAL FISH CULTIVATION IN FLOATING NETWORK IN KELURAHAN BELAWAN SICANANG KOTA MEDAN Salmiah1*, Charloq2, Thomson Sebayang3 123 Faculty of Agriculture University of North Sumatra Abstract Grouper is one of the non-oil and gas export commodities that has the potential to be developed. As fish, fish consumption is much needed for restaurants and luxury hotels. The weight range of 500 - 100 grams / head, especially in living conditions, has a high price compared to in the form of dead fish. In 1999, research and development for multi-species harchery carried out jointly by the Gondol Marine Aquaculture Research Center with JICA first successfully produced mass of duck grouper seeds, cromileptes altivelis and tiger grouper seeds (Kawahara, et. Al ., 2000; Sugama et.al., 2001). Whereas to mass produce sunu grouper seeds in 2005. Technology development has been disseminated to government and private hatcheries, so that the production of duck grouper seeds has increased dramatically and more than 1 million seeds in 2001 (Kawahara and Ismi, 2003). This technology is also applied to the production of tiger grouper seeds, Ephinephelus fuscoguttatus by private hatcheries. In 2002, tiger grouper seed production was more than 2.6 million. For sunu groupers up to now, more than 0.5 million in 2006. LAWLER Parasitology Section, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Ocean Springs, Mississippi 39564 ABSTRACT Four species of parasitic dinoflagellates have been found to occur naturally on the gills and fins of Missis- sippi Sound fishes: Amyloodinium ocellatum (Brown 1931) Brown and Hovasse 1946, Oodinium cyprinodontum Lawler 1967, and two undescribed species. Sixteen of 43 species of fishes examined had natural gill infections of A. ocellatum. Seventy-one of 79 species of fishes exposed to A. ocellatum dinospores were susceptible, and succumbed, to the dinoflagel- late. Eight did not die even though exposed to numerous dinospores. The most common signs in an infested fish were spasmodic gasping and uncoordinated movements. -
