CURRENT POSITION: OPERATIONS DIRECTOR/SENIOR CAMERMAN/MARINE BIOLOGIST SCUBAZOO IMAGES S/B RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE 2007: “NICK BAKER’S WEIRD CREATURES – MIMIC OCTOPUS” – ANIMAL PLANET – Underwater cameraman and topside cameraman. Filming, in true HD, marine life behaviour, especially that of the target animal the mimic octopus, within the turbid waters around the Kunkungan Bay, Manado. The shoot was a complete success and not only did we manage to obtain incredible footage of the target species we also managed to secure footage of a myriad of supporting secondary animals, with and without the presenter in frame. 2007: “PIRATE SHIP LIVE” – CHANNEL 5 UK & NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC – Senior underwater cameraman filming live on HDV. This required organising all the underwater shoot requirements during an earlier recce trip as well as during the actual shoot. Liaising with the UK and USA production team execs in formulating a workable 2 hour live shoot schedule with the underwater presenter before putting the film plan into action in 14’C and 3m visibility water. 2007: “REEF’ – SCUBAZOO & DORLING KINDERSLEY – Film & Post production of accompanying 30 minute DVD. 2007 – “DESTINATION NZ’ – TOURISM NETWORK NEW ZEALAND – Underwater filming on HDV around the Poor Knights Islands (North Island New Zealand) and the surrounding marine life in strong currents, cold & often turbid water. 2007: “YEAR OF THE TURTLE CONSERVATION PROGRAMME” – UNEP & IOSEA SEA TURTLE SECRETARIAT - Filmed and produced a 1 minute & 4 minute educational films for the IOSEA Sea Turtle Secretariat on the ASEAN region conservation efforts towards endangered sea turtles. 2007: “PAPUA NEW GUINEA’s LEATHERBACK TURTLE CONSERVATION PROGRAMME – TAKE 2” – WPRFMC & MRF - Filmed and produced a 1 minute, 10 minute and 30 minute educational films for the Marine Research Foundation and the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council on the national conservation efforts towards the critically endangered Pacific Leatherback sea turtle. 2006: SCUBAZOO MALDIVES @ FOURSEASONS RESORTS MALDIVES – Setting up and opening 2 new film and photo studios based with Four Seasons Resorts Maldives. We now have 5 permanent staff based out there. 2006: “GREAT OCEAN ADVENTURES 2” – ANIMAL PLANET & CHANNEL 5 (UK) – Senior underwater cameraman following and filming presenter Monty Halls round the globe trying to get ourselves in as much trouble with as many of the oceans biggest inhabitants as possible! Thinking of the 5 foot long Humboldt squid stills sends shivers down my spine! 2006: “PAPUA NEW GUINEA’s LEATHERBACK TURTLE CONSERVATION PROGRAMME” – Filmed and produced a 7 minute educational filmed produced for the Marine Research Foundation and the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council on the national conservation efforts towards the Leatherback turtle. 2005: “GREAT OCEAN ADVENTURES” – ANIMAL PLANET & CHANNEL 5 (UK) – Senior underwater cameraman filming all round the world over a total of 9 weeks. 2005: “KILLER SHARK LIVE” – CHANNEL 5 (UK) - Senior underwater cameraman filming the worlds first Live filming of Great White sharks. 2004: “ASEAN DREAM” – INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION: Managing, filming and producing a 30 minute documentary on the Biodiversity of the ASEAN region as well as 10 x 1 minute TV vignettes. 2004: “CORWIN’S QUEST” – ANIMAL PLANET CHANNEL: Assisted in the safe filming of the world’s first ever UW high Definition filming of saltwater crocodiles for Animal Planet’s Corwin’s Quest with celebrity Jeff Corwin. 2004: “NATURES NIGHTMARES & BUILT FOR THE KILL SERIES” – NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL: Filmed giant octopus & six gill sharks, in British Colombia, specifically for both Nat Geo series. 2004: “WORLD FREE DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS” – INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION: Filmed the world free diving championships in Victoria, Canada, for several international Television channels. 2004: “UW HIGH DEFINITION TRAINING COURSE”: Undertook a fully comprehensive underwater High Definition camera training course in Montreal, Canada, with 3 other Scubazoo senior cameramen to make Scubazoo Images the first UW High Definition filming company in SE ASIA. 2004: “SULU-SULAWESI MARINE ECOREGION”: Managed and ran the production of the SSME film for WWF. 2003: “SCUBAZOO AQUA SCHOOL”: Developed and ran the first Scubazoo international underwater videography training course. 2003: “FACING JAWS” – NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL INTERNATIONAL: UW cameraman. 2003: “LAUT 2” – RTM1 MALAYSIA : UW cameraman and consultant. 2002: “MILD SEVEN OUTDOOR QUEST”: UW Film Project manager and cameraman for underwater and topside wet filming. 2002: “SACRED PLANET” IMAX SHOOT: Helped production manage and camera assist for the shoot. 2002:”LAUT” – TV3 MALAYSIA: UW cameraman and library footage manager. 2002: “TAG HEUR – THE ULTIMATE DIVE EXPERIENCE”: Sole UW cameraman for event. 2002: “SURVIVOR II (UK) – PANAMA”: Underwater cameraman and consultant. 2001: “SAVING PARADISE” - BBC TV UK: UW Film Project manager, consultant and sole cameraman for underwater and topside wet filming. 2001: “TREKS IN A WILD WORLD” – DISCOVERY CHANNEL: Underwater cameraman and library footage manager. 2001: “USHUAIA” – DISCOVERY CHANNEL: UW Camera assistant, consultant and library footage manager. 2001: “SURVIVOR I (UK) – MALAYSIA:”: UW cameraman and library footage manager. 1999:” JOURNEY’S TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA” – BBC UK: First UW cameraman and consultant. 1998: “REALLY REALLY WILD SHOW” – BBC UK: UW cameraman. 1997/98: GREEN TURTLE RESEARCH PROJECT. Working for the Institute for Biodiversity & Environmental Conservation (IBEC), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), running the fieldwork and data collection on Pulau Selingaan, Sabah. (Pilcher & Enderby 1998). 1997: SEAS OF BORNEO EXPEDITION: Helped organise and run a return scientific expedition to assess the extent, and effects, of dynamite fish bombing and cyanide fishing techniques, upon the coral reef ecology, around the entire Sabah coastline. This expedition won the highest BP Conservation Award in collaboration with International Year Of the Reef (IYOR). 1997: BRITISH ANTARCTIC SURVEY: Employed as a research assistant processing satellite images of ocean currents, surrounding South Georgia and Falkland Islands, using GIS (Shepherd 1997). 1996: PROJECT SWALLOW REEF: Organised and ran an extensive diving expedition to the South China Sea to carry out the first scientific coral reef survey of Pulau Layang Layang in collaboration with IBEC, UNIMAS. 1995+96: SEA MAMMAL RESEARCH UNIT: 1995: LIGHTHOUSE FIELD STATION: 1994: BRITISH ANTARCTIC SURVEY: 1994: INSTITUTE OF TERRESTRIAL ECOLOGY 1991: LIFE SCIENCE RESEARCH LABORATORIES RELEVANT SKILLS & INTERESTS SCUBA: British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) Assistant Club Instructor and Dive Leader qualifications. Currently hold PADI Assistant Instructor and Dive Master qualifications as well as Technical Dive International Nitrox, Rebreather and Extended Range certifications. Currently hold over 2,400 logged dives, well over 2/3’s made with either a camera or video. COMPUTERS: Advanced Mac computer literacy for film production including: LANGUAGES: Conversational Malay/Indonesian, Basic Japanese. HISTORY: Graduated from Aberdeen University with a BSc (Hons) degree in Marine Zoology. A leading figure in the first scientific research expedition to Pulau Layang Layang, Malaysia, in the South China Sea. Having worked with the Sea Mammal Research Unit and British Antarctic Survey in the UK, he returned to Malaysia in 1997 to carry out cyanide and bomb fishing surveys as well as run a turtle research program. I joined SCUBAZOO in early 1998 and have dived extensively at all SCUBAZOO’s locations, on several scientific and environmental assignments and have been involved in the majority of SCUBAZOO’s broadcast television filming projects. These have led me around the world many times over filming from the northern reaches of Canada and south to New Zealand, from the islands of Galapagos to those of Tonga. As one of the senior underwater cameramen on “Facing Jaws” and “Great Ocean Adventures” I have faced and filmed many of the marine worlds most dramatic and dangerous marine animal encounters resulting in high quality footage of such events. .
