L’un des designers graphiques les plus reconnus et respectés dans le monde. Ses réalisations couvrent l’ensemble des échelles : timbre-poste, carte téléphonique, revues et livres mais aussi signalétique et interventions sur des bâtiments, d’où la relation étroite entre le graphisme de Karel Martens et l’architecture. Il cherche toujours à trouver le juste équilibre entre image et sens, dans la plus grande économie de signes comme de moyens. Il sait être aussi être un joueur et un farceur, il aime que ses projets, par leur pertinence, leur justesse et leur ingéniosité étonnent, interpellent et fassent sourire les publics. Karel Martens est un humaniste, un homme simple mais exigeant, très loin du star système. Il s’est beaucoup investi dans l’enseignement et la transmission : il a été professeur à Yale et a créé en 1997 une école de design à Arnhem aux Pays-Bas (Werkplaatstypographie, établissement très prisé où il continue d’enseigner jusqu’à ce jour). Karel Martens a reçu de nombreux prix ; son travail a été exposé dans le monde entier. Le Projet : Cette création sur mesure, pensée à l’origine avec Une Saison graphique pour l’ensemble des 700 cabanes de la plage du Havre, consiste en une mise en couleur extérieure de ces mini-architectures par 6 bandes de largeurs différentes et 10 couleurs prédéfinies par l’artiste. Chaque cabane est ainsi une combinaison unique, tant au niveau de la couleur que de la largeur des bandes apposées. Ce hasard maitrisé naitra d’un algorithme conçu par les étudiants de l’Université du Havre. Une création pour l’intérieur des cabanes fera l’objet d’un workshop de Karel Martens en octobre prochain avec les étudiants de l’ESADHAR et pourrait également être proposée aux cabanistes. Ce projet fédérateur et fortement implanté à l’échelle du territoire n’a pu voir le jour que grâce à l’accord de la majorité des cabanistes (à l’heure actuelle plus de 450 propriétaires de cabanes ont répondu positivement au projet). Il sera mis en œuvre par une association de réinsertion (A.H.A.P.S) et deux lycées professionnels (Lycée Schuman-Perret et CAF Baie de Seine). La mention suivante devra apparaitre en cas d’utilisation : Karel Martens – Couleurs sur la plage 2017 LA MAISON SUR LA DIGUE – LE GENTIL GARCON Biographie : Le Gentil Garçon est né le 1er novembre 1998 par la volonté de Julien Amouroux. Dessins, sculptures spectaculaires, performances, installations et vidéos peuplent l’univers poétique et ludique de ce jeune artiste lyonnais, guidé par le plaisir et la curiosité. Il continue ses expositions personnelles et collectionne les projets à venir. « On dit de mon travail qu'il obéit à une logique du plaisir et je l'avoue, j'aime me presser le citron pour décocher les traits de mon esprit. Pour tout dire, je vise un point précis, dans une zone étrangement innervée, à égale distance entre le cerveau et le cœur. La pratique est d'autant plus jubilatoire qu'elle est risquée, cela demande de la rigueur et beaucoup de décontraction. C'est important la décontraction, c'est ce qui conforte les gens dans l'envie de vous croire, même si c'est trop gros, même si on voit les trucages. De toute façon, le derrière du décor, c'est plus intéressant que le décor lui-même. Ça c'est un truc d'enfant, se demander comment ça marche, un truc d'enfant ou un truc de scientifique, ce qui est à peu près la même chose et il n'y a rien de péjoratif. D'ailleurs moi aussi, un jour, j'ai voulu en être, de ceux qui savent : la théorie quantique, l'algèbre de Boole, la thermodynamique, les nombres transcendants… Mais plus j'étudiais le fonctionnement du monde et plus je doutais de sa réalité, sa texture devenait changeante, il me glissait entre les doigts. Aussi j'ai décidé d'arrêter d'apprendre ; dorénavant, l'inconnu, je l'inventerai. Après tout, ne pas savoir c'est déjà avoir un point de vue. J'ai quand même pris le pli, je compte toujours sur la gravité pour dessiner les jolies courbes, les jolies paraboles. Malgré tout, mon ignorance restera sans limites, parfois je comblerai les trous, mais bien souvent je me contenterai de les exhiber, on dit bien que l'on invente des trésors quand on ne fait que les découvrir. L'équipement restera minimal : pas de boussole, juste une bonne pioche. Pour le reste, je garde confiance en ma bonne étoile pour me faire tomber sur un os. » « Le poète est un homme qui a l'imagination et la psychologie d'un enfant. LA MAISON SUR LA DIGUE – LE GENTIL GARCON Le Projet : « L’œuvre que je projette de réaliser comporte deux éléments : un placé sur la digue Sud et l’autre placé en face sur le quai. Sur la digue est installée une petite maison (à l’échelle des casemates ) conçue de façon à ce qu’elle puisse être perçue comme un visage schématique qui regarderait Le Havre. De l’autre coté, en face, sur le quai qui longe le boulevard Clémenceau ou bien sur la digue qui protège le port de plaisance, une réplique de la maison en version réduite est fixée sur un poteau. Sa façade/visage, est orientée vers la digue Sud. La face arrière de cette maquette est ouverte, on peut y glisser sa tête à la manière d’un masque. Le dispositif abrite des lunettes qui retransmettent en direct l’image en 3D prise par une caméra depuis l’intérieur de la vraie maison. Cette caméra fixe est placée de façon à ce que l’on puisse voir non seulement le Havre à travers les fenêtres/yeux de la vraie maison, mais aussi une partie de l’intérieur de la maison, l’unique pièce avec ses meubles et ses objets, autant d’indices qui composent à la façon d’un portrait chinois, l’identité de son habitant mystérieux ». La mention suivante devra apparaitre en cas d’utilisation : Le Gentil Garçon – La Maison sur la digue PORTE OCEANE – LANG/BAUMANN Biographie : Sabina Lang, née en 1972, et Daniel Baumann, né en 1967. Ils collaborent depuis 1990. Ils vivent et travaillent à Burgdorf en Suisse. Sabina Lang et Daniel Baumann travaillent ensemble depuis 1990 sous le nom de Lang/Baumann ou L/B. Dans une esthétique postmoderne inspirée des années 1970, le couple multiplie les interventions urbaines (peinture au sol, papier peint, micro architecture, mobilier) stimulant les interactions sociales et interrogeant l’architecture des lieux. Par exemple : leur chambre d’hôtel Hôtel Everland installée en 2007 sur le toit du Palais de Tokyo ou leur intervention pour la Nuit Blanche 2010 Comfort #4 sur la façade d’une école primaire. Qu’ils interviennent sous forme de marquages au sol, qu’ils envahissent les façades de bâtiments de tubes en PVC gonflés ou bien qu’ils lancent dans le vide des escaliers qui ne mènent nulle part, leurs propositions intègrent toujours une dimension ludique et sollicitent le spectateur, volontiers interpellé dans le cadre de son environnement et de son quotidien. « Nous utilisons certains aspects du design et de l’architecture pour faire de l’art, et ce afin d’inviter les spectateurs à s’investir dans l’œuvre. Quand il est supposé toucher les œuvres, s’asseoir dessus ou dormir à l’intérieur, cela devient plus facile de faire participer le public. C’est donc une stratégie du premier pas. Toutefois, nous réalisons aussi des œuvres qui semblent seulement fonctionnelles, mais qui finalement ne peuvent pas être utilisées (…) » Site des artistes : http://langbaumann.com/ Le Projet : Ils interviennent sur l’un des immeubles de la Porte Océane, dont ils vont prolonger la façade par une de leurs structures blanches emblématiques, sollicitant à la fois l’attention et l’imaginaire des habitants et des passants.     Note on Contributors Note on Contributors Sofia Apospori is currently a PhD candidate at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research, which is supervised by Professor Helen Nicholson and advised by Dr. Colette Conroy, explores theatre for people with visual impairments. More specifically, it engages with the theoretical, aesthetic and ethical challenges that are implicated by the re-evaluation of performance space in reference to visual and non-visual perception respectively. Over the last two years, Sofia has been a visiting tutor in the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies, teaching Writing and Performance and Staging Histories. She holds a BA in Drama and Theatre Studies and an MA in Theatre (Applied Drama), both of which were awarded by Royal Holloway, University of London. Beatriz Cantinho is presently developing practice based research work as a PhD student in Dance/Philsophy at the Edinburgh College of Art. Her work focuses mainly on the mechanisms of image perception within aesthetics and performance art. The academic research as been presented at Edinburgh University, Chelsea College of Art, Cambridge University and the University of Surrey. Beatriz graduated from the Superior School of Dance at Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. She took an intensive training course in Noh Theatre at the Kyoto Art Centre. She has completed a professional internship in the theatre company Royal de Luxe. Artistically for the past few years she has been developing work as a choreographer in projects such as Parde2, Scch…Um Ensaio Sobre o Silêncio, and Peça Veloz Corpo Volátil. She has also been involved in collaborative projects with artists from different disciplines with work that has been presented in Portugal, France, the UK, Germany, and Austria.

This article focuses on the experience of Liverpool as the 2008 European Capital of Culture. An evaluation ten years on can provide the basis for research on the long-term cultural legacy of a major event, as well as how to achieve sustainability through legacy planning. Five dimensions of cultural legacy are explored, including: Cultural agency and strategies, cultural network, cultural provision, cultural engagement, and cultural image. The results of the study show that the spill-over effect of culture can be achieved through thorough legacy planning. The most important lesson learned from Liverpool is to integrate the event into the city’s long-term and culture-led development, which yields a healthy and productive cultural climate. Still very much engulfed in his immateriality, the «infant», from the Latin Infans, INTENT meaning «not having the faculty of speech», sits between worlds. He makes no distinction between the real and the imaginary, life and FOR death, and knows that the real is «merely one of the most transient ALL AGES aspects of infinite reality» as according to Artaud. OVER 14 The unexpected return of the infant, Tintagiles, to the devastated island strikes both joy and fear into the heart of his sister, Ygraine. Ygraine Duration 1h lives a life of subjection to an omnipresent yet invisible Queen, a figure who is preceded by a sense of imminent danger. Ygraine resolves to confront the dull and distant rumble (the dull and distant menace?) that destroys everything in its wake and threatens the child. In an act of rebellion, she upsets the established order, breaks down boundaries and enters that space impenetrable to the living, wherein she glimpses the infinite world of the shadow realm. « He is asleep in the other room. Background to the project 1.1 Very little specific recent research has been carried out into audiences in the Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle sector in Ireland. The last published figures for attendances into people attending Circus, Street Arts or Spectacle can be found in the Arts Council Ireland’s 2006 survey The Public and the Arts. 1 The CASCAS report – Experiment Diversity with the Street Arts and Circus: An Overview of Circus and Street Arts in the UK and ROI provides an in-depth overview of the sector, with some reference to audiences for specific festivals (St Patrick’s Festival). 2 1.2 In April 2014 ISACS received a grant from Arts Council Ireland to support research into audiences for Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle in Ireland. Throughout 2015 – 2016 ISACS intend to enhance this research through gathering additional qualitative data on audiences. 1.3 The grant has enabled ISACS to work with Arts Audiences Ireland and the Arts Agency UK, who provided support and guidance.     CS LAB#6 May 25-26, 2021 C O - O R G A N I S E D B Y W I T H T H E S U P P O R T O F Introduction For the past year, the world and environment we were living in has been severely shaken by the global pandemic. We have been deprived of our reference points, of fundamental liberties, challenged in our capacity to endure, stand, accept and cope with an unprecedented situation impacting both the professional and personal realms. In the end, we had no choice but to adapt, reinvent ourselves, our ways of life and our working practices in order to move forward. More than ever over the course of the 21st century, we have been drawn to adapt to new circumstances, realities and, ultimately, to venture into some unknown grounds and face uncertainty, along with the anxiety and doubts it brought about. But concretely how did we navigate through this upheaval? What does it say about our resilience? Looking at the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS), from Hungarian- Canadian endocrinologist Hans Selye, we’ve tried in the framework of the CS LAB#6, to reproduce its stages: Alarm-Reaction, Resistance and Exhaustion, as a way to conduct experiences and stimulate thoughts on how our body and mind adapt to the stress labyrinth we are now crossing, as a deeply impacted sector, and as individuals. During two days, we invite you to experiment collectively this process and to reflect on the notions of adaptability, mental health and care. Let's observe the way our bodies and minds react to such stimuli, let's learn from it to better apprehend how we function and respond as human beings.

In 1991, the City of Nantes had bought this grain carrier from a Spanish ship-owner. She was then called Gera. The freighter was renamed Melquiades-Ville de Nantes and converted into a floating stage. Melquiades, the gypsy prophet, is a key character from the novel 'One Hundred Years of Solitude’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The former grain vessel was used to stage performances from four companies: Philippe Decouflé, Philippe Genty, Mano Negra and Royal de Luxe. Her main hold was bisected by a ‘street’ inspired by the old city of Nantes. The cranes, symbolizing the industrial activity, one by one stopped. Unemployment stroked. The question was between turning the page, tearing down the workshops and reinventing a new story or trying to preserve would appear to most of the population, a kind of modern bulky legacy. In the early 2000’s, the revitalization of Nantes’ former industrial area, led to developing a new way thinking.

  • Key to London Map of Days
    A London Map of Days This is the key to the daily details that feature on my etching A London Map of Days. I posted these every day on both Facebook and Twitter from the 9 February 2015 through to 8 February 2016. As the project continued, I began to enjoy myself and treat it more like a blog and so there is a marked difference between the amount of detail I have included at the beginning and the end of that year. 1 January 1660 Samuel Pepys begins writing his famous diary. He started the diary when he was only 26 years old and kept it for 10 years. He was a naval administrator and even though he had no maritime experience, he rose by a combination of hard work, patronage and talent for administration to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under King Charles II and King James II. His diary, which was not published until the 19th century was written in a cryptic, personal shorthand and the first person to fully transcribe it, did so without the benefit of the key. It was not until 1970 that an unabridged version was published as previous editions had omitted passages deemed too obscene to print, usually involving Pepys sexual exploits. The diary combines personal anecdotes (often centred around drinking) with eyewitness accounts of great events such as the Great Plague of London, the Second Dutch War and the Great Fire of London. It is a glorious work and was a constant source of inspiration for my map. Daily detail from A London Map of Days.
