Raab Recessional Commencement Honoree Vin Diesel Commencement Speaker, Recipient ofHonorary Doctorate ofHumane Letters Vin Diesel is a prominent actor, producer and filmmaker who has been honored with both a Hands and Footprint Ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre and a Star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Last year, his movies grossed $1.6 billion worldwide. He is most widely known as Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious film series, Richard B. Riddick in the Chronicles ofRiddick series, and Xander Cage in the xXx series as well as the voice of Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and Avengers: Infinity Wars. Most recently, Diesel, a native New Yorker, reprised his role as Dominic Toretto in the eighth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise, which he starred in and produced. The record­ breaking film has had the largest international release of all time, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide. He also wrote and directed the original short film Los Bandoleros, which tells the backstory of the characters and events in the franchise. Prior to F8, Diesel led the star-studded ensemble cast in the highly anticipated xXx: Return of Xander Cage. He reprised his role in Guardians ofthe Galaxy Vol. 2 as baby Grqot, and appeared Vin Diesel in Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, directed by Ang Lee. In 2015, he starred in and produced The Last Witch Hunter for Lionsgate, opposite Sir Michael Caine. Another endeavor in Diesel's entrepiene'urial rise was the launch of his successful video game company, Tigon Studios, which recently created and' produced the multi-platform "Riddick: The Mere Files" as well as 2004's top­ selling Xbox game, "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay." Diesel previously starred alongside Michelle Yeoh in 20th Century Fox's Babylon A.D., and was also seen in the courtroom drama Find Me Guilty, directed by Sidney Lumet. In 2005, Diesel starred in his first comedy feature, The Pacifier, which was a huge box-office success for Disney. In the highly anticipated science-fiction feature The Chronicles ofRiddick, Diesel reprised the title role. Produced by his production company, One Race Films, it was the follow-up to the cult favorite Pitch Black. Early in his career-in his first foray into filmmaking-Diesel wrote, produced, directed and starred in the independent short Multi-Facial, which explored the experience of being multiracial in today's society. The film follows Diesel, whose biological mother is Caucasian and biological father is African-American, on several auditions in which he is told that he is either too black or too white for the part. It was after seeing Multi-Facial at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival that Steven Spielberg created the role of Private Adrian Caparzo in Saving Private Ryan specifically for Diesel, for which he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild® Award. Diesel's future projects include Sony's Bloodshot, which he will film this summer. Diesel will reprise his role as Xander Cage and also produce xXx4 for returning director DJ Caruso. Film yang disutradarai oleh Rob Cohen ini dibintangi oleh Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, dan Jordana Brewster. Film ini dirilis pada tanggal 22 Juni 2001 di Amerika Serikat. Film ini bercerita tentang Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) yang ditugaskan dalam operasi gabungan polisi Los Angeles dan FBI untuk memasuki jaringan balap jalanan di Los Angeles yang dicurigai menjadi asal dari serangkaian pembajakan truk berkecepatan tinggi yang dilakukan trio Honda Civic tahun 1995 dengan lampu neon hijau dibawah kerangkanya. Brian bekerja di toko setempat dan bekerja sampai menghadapi pembalap jalanan elit, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) dan 2 kontestan lain dalam sebuah laga balap akbar di tengah malam. Brian bertukar arah dalam balapnya dengan STNK sebuah Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T tahun 1995. Dia kalah, tetapi mendapat pujian dari Toretto ketika berniat menjemputnya kala balapnya dirazia polisi. Setelah kabur dari polisi, tanpa disangka, mereka berhadapan dengan geng lawan yang diketuai Johnny Tran (Rick Yune) yang dengan sengaja, menghancurkan Eclipse Brian dengan menembakinya pakai mitraliur. Esoknya, atasan Brian, Sersan Tanner (Ted Levine) dan agen FBI Bilkins (Tom Barry) takut kalau Toretto-lah sumber pembajakan ini dan memperingatkan Brian supaya tidak melakukan tindakan apapun yang dapat menghalangi penilaiannya. Sejak pertemuan pertama Brian dengan Toretto, mereka menjadi sahabat karib dan mulai 34 menyukai Mia, adik perempuannya Toretto. Setelah Eclipse milik Brian hancur, ia memberi Toretto sebuah Toyota Supra tahun 1995 yang sudah bobrok, membangun ulang dan memodifikasinya, dan menawarkan jasanya sebagai pembalap jalanan.

    May 26, 2021 The Honorable Members of the California State Assembly State Capitol Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: Thousands of CA Public School Students Strongly Urge Support for AB 101 Dear Members of the Assembly, We are a coalition of California high school and college students known as Teach Our History California. Made up of the youth organizations Diversify Our Narrative and GENup, we represent 10,000 youth leaders from across the State fighting for change. Our mission is to ensure that students across California high schools have meaningful opportunities to engage with the vast, diverse, and rich histories of people of color; and thus, we are in deep support of AB101 which will require high schools to provide ethnic studies starting in academic year 2025-26 and students to take at least one semester of an A-G approved ethnic studies course to graduate starting in 2029-30. Our original petition made in support of AB331, linked here, was signed by over 26,000 CA students and adult allies in support of passing Ethnic Studies. Please see appended to this letter our letter in support of AB331, which lists the names of all our original petition supporters. We know AB101 has the capacity to have an immense positive impact on student education, but also on student lives as a whole. For many students, our communities continue to be systematically excluded from narratives presented to us in our classrooms. By passing AB101, we can change the precedent of exclusion and allow millions of students to learn the histories of their peoples.

    CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Research Actions performed via utterances are generally called speech acts. In real- life interactions, speech act can perform when offer a command, question, request, advice, etc. According to Austin (1962) in Cutting (2002:16), speech acts as “the actions performed in saying something”. We can understand that for express something, people not only produce words that contain structure and grammatical words but they also take action through it speech. In speaking activities, the speakers not only deliver messages, but they also build the social relationships with the listeners. An example is "Help me improve this task". This example is included in the speech act type directive because the speech is said to mean the speaker is to take the appropriate action stated in his speech which is to help improve the task. The indicator of directive utterance is an action taken by the listener after hearing the utterance. Speech acts are often used by people every day in social interactions. For example in conversations with parents, friends, teachers, and people around him. The importance of speech acts in communication so that a close relationship exists between the speaker and the listener. The study of speech act is very importance. The one importance of studying speech act is to make us comprehend what the message that discovered in every utterance.
