UB40 24. Januar 2017 Stuttgart Im Wizemann Play SIGNING OFF in Its Entirety and More UB40 24. Januar 2017 Stuttgart Im Wizemann play SIGNING OFF in its entirety and more Reggae Legende UB40 kommt endlich wieder nach Deutschland.

EXCLUSIVEEXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWINTERVIEW By Glenn Swift en years ago, British THINGS ARE reggae great, Pato Banton, was touring the DIFFERENT...THE United States just like he is now...but my how SECOND TIME AROUND things have changed. “Back then, it was all about seeking success and making a name for myself. Now it’s very different. I’ve achieved far more than my wildest dreams and I just want to give back. I look at music as my ministry, my ministry of love. And I want to spread that love to everyone. After all, that’s really what reggae is all about, showing one love for all of humanity, regardless of what color you are or what language you speak,” said Banton, echoing the words of the legendary Bob Marley a generation ago. Banton’s path to success was not exactly paved in gold. The child of Jamaican parents, Banton was born and raised in the industrial city of Birmingham, England, a breeding ground for avant-garde musicians going back to the R&B days of the 1950s and early 60s. “Like so many before me, music offered an escape from the often diffi- cult everyday life in the city,” said Banton. “And from the earliest I can remember, I loved music. My father was a DJ, and I listened to all different types.” But something magical happened when Banton heard his first reggae song. “I fell in love,” he said. “Ever since, it’s been all about reggae.” Reggae also offered Banton something else, an identity to which he never had before.

NEW & EXCLUSIVE to the 2018 BURY ST EDMUNDS FESTIVAL NOWTOWN NIGHTS @ NOWTON PARK. BURY ST EDMUNDS. SUFFOLK. Bank Holiday Sunday 27th May 2018 (It’s like a Saturday Night – next day Bank Holiday) (Car Parks 5pm) Arena Gates open 6pm, Show 7.30pm, ends 10.30pm UB40 & Special Guest Support TBA www.ub40.global The story of UB40, and how this group of young friends from Birmingham transcended their working-class origins to become the world’s most successful reggae band is not the stuff of fairy tales as might be imagined. The group’s led a charmed life in many respects it’s true, but it’s been a long haul since the days they’d meet up in the bars and clubs around Moseley, and some of them had to scrape by on less than £8 a week unemployment benefit. The choice was simple if you’d left school early. You could either work in one of the local factories, like Robin Campbell did, or scuffle along aimlessly whilst waiting for something else to happen. UB40’s first album was released, on Graduate Records. Their deal allowed them more creative freedom than if they had signed with a major label. The cover artwork memorably duplicated an unemployment benefit card, with the title "Signing Off" rubber-stamped in red, but it was the music that quickly worked its way into the affections of a young, mainly student crowd with its knowing lyrics, solid reggae rhythms and dub, instrumental passages, offset by warm horn solos and Jamaican style scatting. There was nothing else like it at the time.
