PRESS RELEASE 25 countries to compete at Singapore Badminton Open 2019 as registration closed Badminton Powerhouses Indonesia, Korea and Denmark latest to announce entry [Singapore, 27 February 2019] – The 2019 edition of the Singapore Badminton Open is set to be action packed with all the World Number 1 shuttlers confirming their participation for the tournament in April. The final day of registration saw the likes of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo amongst the latest entries that will be in contention at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 9-14 April. Part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Series, the Singapore leg boasts a star-studded line-up that would undoubtedly send waves of excitement through the badminton scene. Gideon and Sukamuljo completes the list of World Ranked #1 shuttlers that will compete at the Singapore Open. The Men’s Doubles Asian Games 2018 champions will be part of a 50 strong contingent from Indonesia heading to The Republic. The Indonesian pair will be joined by compatriots Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, ranked #7 in the World and World Ranked #9 Jonatan Christie, also a 2018 Asian Games champion. Ginting and Christie enters what is already a stellar Men’s Singles category, alongside the likes of Kento Momota, Lin Dan, Chen Long and Chou Tien Chen. Representing Denmark in Men’s Singles will be World Ranked #6 Viktor Axelsen, he will be accompanied by fellow countrymen and former European champion Jan O Jorgensen. Amongst their ranks is also Danish starlet, Anders Antonsen, who most recently stunned Momota when he overcame the World Number 1 at the 2019 Indonesia Masters. -

Housing Ministry of Defence Year End Review – 2019 Ministry of Defence Posted On: 27 DEC 2019 6:14PM by PIB Delhi 2019 was a year full of remarkable events for Ministry of Defence.In a landmark decision with tremendous reform in higher defence management in the country, the Government has approved to create the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in the rank of a four-star General with salary and perquisites equivalent to a Service Chief. The CDS will also head the Department of Military Affairs (DMA), to be created within the Ministry of Defence and function as its Secretary. This follows the announcement made by the Prime Minister on August 15, 2019, in his address to the nation, inter alia, “India should not have a fragmented approach. Our entire military power will have to work in unison and move forward…All the three (Services) should move simultaneously at the same pace. There should be good coordination and it should be relevant to the hope and aspirations of our people. It should be in line with the changing war and security environment with the world…after formation of this post (CDS), all the three forces will get effective leadership at the top level.”The decision will lead to improved coordination between the Armed Forces and make them more effective. Last November, top badminton stars joined HSBC executives at ‘City Badminton’ in Hong Kong for an initiative by HSBC Life. This saw community groups, including the Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability, students from Pui Kiu College, local junior talents, HSBC staff and shoppers at host venue Olympian City two participate in badminton activities such as coaching clinics and play-to- win contests. They were also shown the physical and mental benefits of exercise. More than 3,000 people took part in this venture. Goenka was the founder Chairman of BARC India. He has been re- elected for this post. BARC India is a Joint Industry Company founded by stakeholder bodies that represent Broadcasters, Advertisers, and Advertising and Media Agencies. o IPS officer Kumar Rajesh Chandra (1985 batch) has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). SSB is a paramilitary force that has been tasked to guard the 1,751-km Indo-Nepal border since 2001 and the 699-km Indo-Bhutan border since 2004. It is also designated as the lead intelligence gathering agency on these two open borders. • Awards o 2019 Bharat Ratna award: It has been bestowed upon former President Pranab Mukherjee, Nanaji Deshmukh and singer Bhupen Hazarika.
