It is a picture which dovetails perfectly with other portions of the prophetic Word of God concerning His ancient people and His dealings with them. But nowhere else does the Holy Spirit speak in so much detail concerning Russia and her relationship to Israel in the last tragic world-drama to be enacted upon the earth. Let us read these chapters, noting first the broad outline facts which they present: Ezekiel 36 -1. The long desolation of Palestine because of Israel's sin and idolatry. 2. Divine deliverance promised. Ezekiel 37 -The picture enlarged upon; the method by which Israel will be restored, as a nation alive from the dead. Ezekiel 38, 39-The part Russia will play in world events in the last days, especially in her relation to Israel. Ezekiel 40-48-A marvelous description of the millennial reign of Christ. As we read these significant chapters, we are impressed with the minute details which the Holy Spirit has recorded for us concerning things to come. Then as we read this inspired record of future events in the light of present-day movements and present-day world conditions, we realize with ever-increasing conviction that we are rapidly approaching the time of their fulfillment. This picture of things to come, which God has given to us through His prophet, fills us with sorrow for sinning, persecuted Russia Mobilizes Far Armageddon 7 Israel; with wonder for our Lord's patience and kindness toward ISRAEL'S SIN-DESOLATION-AND PROMISED His covenant people; with awe at the thought of the terrible DELIVERANCE judgments yet to fall upon the nations which defy Jehovah; with praise for the sure promise of Christ's reign of peace and EZEKIEL 36:1-38 righteousness over the purified earth. Verse 19 gives us the heart of the message of this chapter: "I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them." In this verse and throughout the entire passage under con sideration the word "heathen" means "nations,'' and refers to the Gentiles among whom God's chosen people have long been scattered. (We shall so translate the word in the quotations which tollow.) For nearly two thousand years the Jews have been the people of the wandering feet, hunted, persecuted, de spised. Why? Because "when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings" (verse 17). "Wherefore," the Lord said further, "I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it: and I scat tered them among the nations (R.V.), and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. And when they entered unto the nations, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the Lord, and are gone forth out of his land" (verses 18-20). This would be a dark picture, indeed, but for the promised deliverance foretold in the words which follow: "But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations, whither they went. And I will /1 I I Russia Mobilizes FO'I' Armageddon 9 sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the nations, which whom they pierced, and a fountain of cleansing will forever be ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the nations shall know opened for them. that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in This is the message of Ezekiel 36:1-38, and it is God's oft you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own repeated message to His covenant people, Israel. land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean : from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit wi!J I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I wiU put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God" (verses 21-28). In these wonderful words the Holy Spirit is revealing to us something which has not yet taken place, but which will come to pass when the Son of God returns to this earth and stands on the Mount of Olives. It is a marvelous prophecy regarding the return of Israel to their own land. Verses 19 and 20 tell us how the nation was to be scattered, and that prophecy was fulfilled literally. Therefore, we know that the yet unfulfilled portions of this divine utterance will surely come to pass. Israel will be regathered from all the countries of the world, into their own land. Their hearts will be changed, and they will know that Christ Jesus is their Messiah and Lord. "And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited" (verse 35) . All this will come to pass at the close of the tribulation period, when Christ returns to the earth to rule. Zechariah wrote of that great event when he said: "His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, . And it shall be in that day, that Jiving waters shall go out from Jerusalem, .. And the Lord shall be king over all the earth" (Zech. 14:4, 8, 9). No longer the people of the wandering feet, Israel will be the most honored of nations; for they shall have looked upon Him 10 Russia Mobilizes For Armageddon 11 THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT 3. • Gog and Magog Battle Israel
ISRAEL IN PROPHECY LESSON 5 GOG AND MAGOG BATTLE ISRAEL The “latter days” battle against Israel described in Ezekiel is applied by dispensationalists to a coming battle against the modern nation of Israel in Palestine. The majority of popular Bible commentators try to map out this battle and even name nations that will take part in it. In this lesson you will see that this prophecy in Ezekiel chapters 36 and 37 does not apply to the modern nation of Israel at all. You will study how the book of Revelation gives us insights into how this prophecy will be applied to God’s people, spiritual Israel (the church) in the last days. You will also see a clear parallel between the events described in Ezekiel’s prophecy and John’s description of the seven last plagues in Revelation. This prophecy of Ezekiel gives you another opportunity to learn how the “Three Fold Application” applies to Old Testament prophecy. This lesson lays out how Ezekiel’s prophecy was originally given to the literal nation of Israel at the time of the Babylonian captivity, and would have met a victorious fulfillment if they had remained faithful to God and accepted their Messiah, Jesus Christ. However, because of Israel’s failure this prophecy is being fulfilled today to “spiritual Israel”, the church in a worldwide setting. The battle in Ezekiel describes Satan’s last efforts to destroy God’s remnant people. It will intensify as we near the second coming of Christ. Ezekiel’s battle will culminate and reach it’s “literal worldwide in glory” fulfillment at the end of the 1000 years as described in Revelation chapter 20.

  • The Prophecy of Ezekiel 38-39
1 WHAT EZEKIEL 38-39 REVEALS About A FUTURE WORLD WAR III By Steven M. Collins P.O. Box 88735 Sioux Falls, SD 571009-1005 Introduction and Context: The “latter day” prophecy found in Ezekiel 38-39 has long been seen by many Christians as a key prophecy describing events which will occur among the nations in the time preceding the Millennium (or Messianic Age). This is a lengthy and very “meaty” prophecy which needs a thorough examination in order to be understood and appreciated. This research paper has been prompted by the fact that so much is happening in world events which is directly setting the stage for the fulfillment of this prophecy in future world geopolitics. It is needful to warn as many people as possible about what will occur in the years ahead of us, because when it is fulfilled, it will shock all nations and it will drastically affect the lives of everyone on the planet. Ezekiel 38- 39 reveals, in advance, many details about a future World War III which will occur in the years ahead of us. What is noteworthy about this prophecy is that it has God’s “guarantee” that he will personally intervene as needed to make sure it comes to pass exactly as prophesied. If you are interested in knowing the future, consider what Ezekiel 38-39 has to say. If you doubt that there is a Creator God who can influence or control world events, your doubts will also be addressed in this report. As a reassurance to all potential readers, this research paper will not “grind an ax” for or against any religious denomination and it will not ask you for money.

THE EZEKIEL 38 WAR OUTER-RING STRIKE ON ISRAEL Prophetic Countdown to the Gog-Magog Alliance by Luis B. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.’ –Ezekiel 38:1-6 The purpose of this study is to examine the many theories, variables and speculations of what is and/or will constitute the Gog-Magog War I. The Bible states most definitely that there is coming a time when the Nations will come against YHVH’s earthly People and YHVH will come against the Nations. What is unique about this prophecy is that the coordinated attack is unified and comprised of the Nations that are not bordering Israel but are still, for the most part Muslim in general. The nation states that this study calls the Outer-Ring of Muslim nations will be involved and will be led by Russia foremost, Gog and the ‘Prince of Magog’.

The Eschatology of the Dead Sea Scrolls J. Randall Price, Ph.D. Center for Judaic Studies Liberty University [email protected] Recent unrest in the Middle East regularly stimulates discussion on the eschatological interpretation of events within the biblical context. In light of this interest it is relevant to consider the oldest eschatological interpretation of biblical texts that had their origin in the Middle East – the Dead Sea Scrolls. This collection of some 1,000 and more documents that were recovered from caves along the northwestern shores of the Dead Sea in Israel, has become for scholars of both the Old and New Testaments a window into Jewish interpretation in the Late Second Temple period, a time known for intense messianic expectation. The sectarian documents (non-biblical texts authored by the Qumran Sect or collected by the Jewish Community) among these documents are eschatological in nature and afford the earliest and most complete perspective into the thinking of at least one Jewish group at the time of Jesus’ birth and the formation of the early church.

  • Through the Bible Study Ezekiel 38-39
THROUGH THE BIBLE STUDY EZEKIEL 38-39 The most perilous job in journalism is that of the war correspondent. This is the reporter who dodges bullets, and braves the front lines of combat armed only with a pad and pen. The war reporter travels to the battlefield to detail the progress and welfare of the troops. God also has His war correspondents. On occasion Hebrew prophets donned military fatigues, and braved the ravages of war to report to us on the outcome. But what’s most amazing about God’s war writers is they were often dispatched to the future to cover battles that hadn’t yet taken place. Imagine, being a war correspondent, and your editor tells you you’re being sent to cover a battle that won’t take place for 2600 years. This was Ezekiel’s assignment in chapters 38-39. Ezekiel was sent in a vision to cover a battle that to this day has yet to occur - according to verse 8 it won’t take place until “the latter years” - verse 16 reads “the latter days” - both are euphemisms for the end of time. These events unfold after the Jews are regathered to the mountains of Israel - but before they return to the Lord, and Jesus returns to re-establish God’s kingdom. Recall in Chapter 36 we studied God’s New Covenant. In Chapter 37 Ezekiel recounts his vision of dry bones. The Jews will be regathered to their ancient home. R1 In Chapters 40-48 we’ll study the Millennial Temple and the boundaries of Israel after Jesus returns and reigns over the Earth.

Woodhead Pentwater Bible Church The Book of Ezekiel Message One INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL August 23, 2015 Daniel E. Woodhead Ezekiel’s Vision by Raphael cir. 1518 INTRODUCTION The Old Testament book of the Jewish Prophet Ezekiel is one of the so-called Major Prophets in the Christian Bible because of its length. The other four are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations and Daniel. The twelve so-called Minor Prophets follow these. They are designated minor due to their length. Therefore all the prophetic books are collected together in the Christian Bible. The Hebrew Bible, which is called the Tenach, arranges the books in a different order and assigns the Book of Ezekiel to third position in the category called the Latter Prophets (Hebrew, Neve’em). The other Later Prophets are Isaiah, Jeremiah and the Twelve Prophets. The Jewish Talmud arranges the sequence of the books of the Latter Prophets to follow a chronological order. Beginning with Jeremiah, which is primarily concerned with the prophecies of Israel’s destruction following the narrative of the books of Kings. Ezekiel, which begins with destruction, ends with the consolation of the Messianic Kingdom. Isaiah follows that and is almost all concerned with prophecies of consolation. • The Armies of Gog, the Merchants of Tarshish, and the British Empire Andrew Mein the Gog Prophecy in Ezekiel 38–39 Is One Of
THE ARMIES OF GOG, THE MERCHANTS OF TARSHISH, AND THE BRITISH EMPIRE Andrew Mein The Gog prophecy in Ezekiel 38–39 is one of the more difficult parts of a difficult book. Israel, finally restored in peace to the Promised Land, faces one last threat in the person of Gog of Magog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. As the chapters progress, Gog gathers together an enormous horde of warriors with which he assaults peaceful Israel, only to be defeated not by human arms but by the miraculous power of God. A little less than half way through Ezekiel 38, as the monstrous Gog is about to launch his invasion of the land, the Authorized Version reads: Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gath- ered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil? (Ezek 38:13).1 At first sight these words do not look a very promising source of British imperial rhetoric. And yet, for a surprisingly large number of Victorian writers on prophecy that is precisely what they became. My aim in this paper is to examine how the merchants of Tarshish embarked on this imperial adventure, and to offer some reflection on the consumption of prophecy in mid-nineteenth-century Britain. Decoding Gog in Nineteenth-Century Britain The identification of Gog has always been controversial, and many Chris- tian readers over the centuries have been tempted to find the political and military travails of their own age encoded in the text.2 For St Ambrose (c.

  • Introduction to Ezekiel Prepared by Steve Gregg
Introduction to Ezekiel Prepared by Steve Gregg I. The Man A prophet from a priestly family (1:3), like Jeremiah (Jer.1:1); Zechariah son of Berechiah (Zech.1:1); Zechariah son of Jehoiada (2 Chron.24:20; and John the Baptist (Luke 1:5). Like John the Baptist, Ezekiel began his prophetic ministry at age 30—the very age he otherwise would have qualified to serve as a priest. “Ezekiel” means “Strengthened by God” or “God Strengthens” Written in first person (with few exceptions—e.g., 1:2-3) Apart from this book, his name is not mentioned in scripture In 605 BC Daniel and his friends had been deported to Babylon (Dan.1:1-4), about 700 miles from home. In 597 BC King Jehoiachin was deported, along with 10,000 Jews (2 Kings 24:10-16; Jer.24:1), among whom were Ezekiel (at age 25) and his wife. In exile, Ezekiel lived in Tel-Abib (3:15) on the Chebar Canal, which was probably southeast of Babylon. Life in Babylonia, for the exiles, was more like living in a colony than in captivity. They were able to farm their own lands there (Jer.29) and have their own houses (Ezek.3:24; 20:1) The death of his wife coincided with the besieging of Jerusalem (24:15-27). The time and circumstances of Ezekiel’s death are unrecorded. Jewish tradition says he died a martyr for rebuking the idolatry of an Israelite prince, around 560 BC. II. The Ministry Ezekiel’s ministry lasted 22 years (593-571 BC) (1:2; 29:17) Contemporary with Jeremiah (who would have been about 20 years older than him) and of Daniel, who had been taken into captivity about 8 years earlier than himself, and would have been close to Ezekiel’s age.
