two categories. They either love to study prophecy or they can’t stand the topic, seeing it as a major waste of time. I would argue that our position ought to be somewhere in the middle. Many of us want to know what will happen in the end. It’s natural to be curious. What doesn’t make sense is an attitude about studying the end times because it’s a waste of time. We’ve all heard, “I can’t change the end. It will happen as G-d designed it.” Or something along those lines. What we may forget is that G-d gave specifics about the future – and expects us to know those facts – especially when times get tough. The Bible is not a survival manual, but it certainly can (and did2) bring hope in troubling times. And make no mistake, since Israel became a nation again in 1948, it’s clear that G-d’s prophetic clock is ticking much closer to the final hour. The traditional daily standing prayer ends with, “That your beloved ones may be delivered, help with Your right hand and answer me. Do it for the sake of Your Name; do it for the sake of Your right hand; do it for the sake of Your Torah; do it for the sake of Your holiness.”3 I want to encourage you to study the end times along with us. Do it for the sake of your children; do it for the sake of the other believers; do it for the sake of obedience to the Torah; do it to hasten the coming of the L-rd. I promise, when we’re done, your life will have a different perspective. As a parent, you will want to remind your children of the guaranteed persecution that is to come. You will want to prepare them with answers. You will want to give them hope, in times of trouble. Your own thoughts will turn more easily to your G-d, with a renewed desire to please Him, having learned what that will mean for your future. The RAMBAM’s thirteen principles of faith end with these: 11. I believe with perfect faith that G-d rewards those who keep His commandments and punishes those who transgress Him. 12. I believe with perfect faith in the coming of Messiah. However long it takes, I will await His coming every day. 13. I believe with perfect faith that the dead will be brought back to life when G-d wills it to happen. Join us, as we add just a little bit of

Now, according to the notes of the Union Gospel Press Expositor and Illuminator: “Our lessons this quarter began with several passages from Jeremiah that reassured Judah in its darkest days…But as our second unit from Habakkuk and Job revealed, dark nights can descend on the soul to tax hope to the breaking point…Our final five lessons, four from Ezekiel and one from Isaiah, return us to the brighter prospects awaiting the saints in the last days.” In “Precepts for Living” we find, “Just as God showed the Apostle John a revelation of the future in a vision, which included the New Jerusalem (Rev.

  • Through the Looking Glass: Reflections on Ezek 43:3, Num 12:8 and 1 Cor 13:8
THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: REFLECTIONS ON EZEK 43:3, NUM 12:8 AND 1 COR 13:8 by MICHAEL FISHBANE Brandeis University. Waltham, MA 02254-91 JO The role of visions dominates the Book of Ezekiel. Apart from the prophet's inaugural vision in chap. I, and the related vision of the divine Glory in chap. IO, prior to the destruction of Jerusalem, there is, of course, the guided heavenly tour of the New Temple which Ezekiel receives in chaps. 40-42. In addition to these cosmic or meta-historical visions, a whole series of historical visions makes up the texture of Ezekiel's prophecies. Generations of scholars pondered their Sit:z im Leben and speculated about their authenticity. In this context, we may simply recall the diverse discussions concerning the content of the vision of the abominations in Jerusalem found in chap. 8. 1 In addition, many other of Ezekiel's predictions (like the vision of the Valley of Bones and the Gog and Magog prophecy) are rendered in a highly descriptive and visual imagery. Ezekiel is thus a seer: a seer of the future and of transcendent realities. Moreover, like his ancient counterparts, the key verb used in Ezekiel's visions is the stem riPah;2 and the key expression describing the intensity of divine influence is that the "hand of YHWH" was "upon" him. 3 I. Cf. the commentaries of Cooke (1936), Greenberg (1983) and Zimmerli (1979, 1983) ad loc (with literature cited); and also Gaster (1969), pp. 607 I I. 2. For this verb in the book of Ezekiel, cf.

  • Gog and Magog Battle Israel
ISRAEL IN PROPHECY LESSON 5 GOG AND MAGOG BATTLE ISRAEL The “latter days” battle against Israel described in Ezekiel is applied by dispensationalists to a coming battle against the modern nation of Israel in Palestine. The majority of popular Bible commentators try to map out this battle and even name nations that will take part in it. In this lesson you will see that this prophecy in Ezekiel chapters 36 and 37 does not apply to the modern nation of Israel at all. You will study how the book of Revelation gives us insights into how this prophecy will be applied to God’s people, spiritual Israel (the church) in the last days. You will also see a clear parallel between the events described in Ezekiel’s prophecy and John’s description of the seven last plagues in Revelation. This prophecy of Ezekiel gives you another opportunity to learn how the “Three Fold Application” applies to Old Testament prophecy. This lesson lays out how Ezekiel’s prophecy was originally given to the literal nation of Israel at the time of the Babylonian captivity, and would have met a victorious fulfillment if they had remained faithful to God and accepted their Messiah, Jesus Christ. However, because of Israel’s failure this prophecy is being fulfilled today to “spiritual Israel”, the church in a worldwide setting. The battle in Ezekiel describes Satan’s last efforts to destroy God’s remnant people. It will intensify as we near the second coming of Christ. Ezekiel’s battle will culminate and reach it’s “literal worldwide in glory” fulfillment at the end of the 1000 years as described in Revelation chapter 20.

WHY LITERAL SACRIFICES IN THE MILLENNIUM Tom's Perspectives by Thomas Ice A common objection to the consistent literal interpretation of Bible prophecy is found in Ezekiel’s Temple vision (Ezek. 40—48). Opponents argue that if this is a literal, future Temple, then it will require a return to the sacrificial system that Christ made obsolete since the prophet speaks of “atonement” (kiper) in Ezekiel 43:13, 27; 45:15, 17, 20. This is true! Critics believe this to be a blasphemous contradiction to the finished work of Christ as presented in Hebrews 10. Hank Hanegraaff says that I have “exacerbated the problem by stating that without animal sacrifices in the Millennium, Yahweh’s holiness would be defiled. That, for obvious reasons, is blasphemous.” He further says that such a view constitutes a return “to Old Covenant sacrifices.”1 “Is it heretical to believe that a Temple and sacrifices will once again exist,” ask John Schmitt and Carl Laney? “Ezekiel himself believed it was a reality and the future home of Messiah.

E Z E K I E L —prophet to the exiles in Babylon, early sixth century. Name means “God will strengthen” 1. Date Ezekiel dates his prophecies very frequently, as much or more than any other OT book. There are 14 time-posts in Ezekiel, all in chronological order except 29:17 that has a logical connection to its context of Oracles against the Nations: 1:1 30th year (of what?) 1:2 5th year of Jehoiachin’s captivity 8:1 6th “ 20:1 7th 24:1 9th 26:1 11th 29:1 10th 29:17 27th 30:20 11th 31:1 11th 32:1 12th 32:17 12th 33:21 12th year of our captivity 40:1 25th “ Jehoiachin’s captivity started in 597 BC, the apparent terminus a quo: 5th year = 593 BC 27th year = 571 BC Note that many of these prophecies were given during his 11th and 12th years of captivity. That would be 587-586 BC, just during and after the fall and destruction of Jerusalem (cf. 33:21). Ezekiel 1:1 poses a question: the “30th year” of what? It could be the 30th year of the Neo-Babylonian empire (about 596 BC, assuming its beginnings under Nabopolassar in 626 BC), the year after Jehoiachin was taken captive, two years before Ezekiel’s call related in chapter 1. Another possibility is that it is Ezekiel’s age at the time of his call (cf. Num. 4:3, and the lives of John the Baptist and of Jesus, Lk. 3:23). The old critical view of C.

The weekly International Bible Lesson is usually posted each Saturday before the lesson is scheduled to be taught. International Bible Lesson Commentary Ezekiel 47:13-23 (Ezekiel 47:13) Thus says the Lord GOD, “This shall be the boundary by which you shall divide the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have two portions. 2 In Ezekiel 47:13-20, Ezekiel received instructions on how the Promised Land should be divided among the 12 tribes after they returned from exile. The Levites received some cities, a portion of the offerings, and lived among the other 12 tribes: Joseph’s descendants had been divided into two tribes, leaving 12 tribes to inherit the land. Since the returning exiles did not obey the vision that God gave Ezekiel, they did not divide the land according to Ezekiel’s vision either. (Ezekiel 47:14) “You shall divide it for an inheritance, each one equally with the other; for I swore to give it to your forefathers, and this land shall fall to you as an inheritance.

  • Ezekiel 47:1-12, John 7:37-38B the Living Waters of Jesus and the Spirit
Message by Rev. Joyce Yanishewski St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, Thunder Bay, ON August 28, 2016 Ezekiel 47:1-12, John 7:37-38b The Living Waters of Jesus and the Spirit ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’ Water. In the last week a cool refreshing glass of water brought relief to parched lips and dry tongues. Many of us kick start our day with a shower, or relax at the end of the day in a bath. Something as simple as being able to brush our teeth and rinse with water, or splash water on our faces to cleanse, these experiences are things we rarely think about for long because water comes in abundance to us in our homes. In Northern Ontario we are particular blessed with large bodies of fresh water lakes, rivers, and streams. People head down to marinas to enjoy the water, or search out remote areas where fishing is good, wading into the streams to spend a few hours in the peace, immersed in the sounds and sights of creation around them. It is likely that each one of you has some memory of water that brings a sense of peace. People will create fountains in backyards just to hear the sound of water. I have been in hospitals where there are fountains in courtyards as it seems to offer hope and healing to those whose bodies and minds are struggling for health. One of my cousins is a superintendent for a major company that builds many public buildings. Once when we flew to Ottawa he let us know to check out the water feature in the terminal as he was in charge of installing it.

  • The Anti-Samaritan Attitude As Reflected in Rabbinic Midrashim
religions Article The Anti‑Samaritan Attitude as Reflected in Rabbinic Midrashim Andreas Lehnardt Faculty of Protestant Theology, Johannes Gutenberg‑University Mainz, 55122 Mainz, Germany; lehnardt@uni‑mainz.de Abstract: Samaritans, as a group within the ranges of ancient ‘Judaisms’, are often mentioned in Talmud and Midrash. As comparable social–religious entities, they are regarded ambivalently by the rabbis. First, they were viewed as Jews, but from the end of the Tannaitic times, and especially after the Bar Kokhba revolt, they were perceived as non‑Jews, not reliable about different fields of Halakhic concern. Rabbinic writings reflect on this change in attitude and describe a long ongoing conflict and a growing anti‑Samaritan attitude. This article analyzes several dialogues betweenrab‑ bis and Samaritans transmitted in the Midrash on the book of Genesis, Bereshit Rabbah. In four larger sections, the famous Rabbi Me’ir is depicted as the counterpart of certain Samaritans. The analyses of these discussions try to show how rabbinic texts avoid any direct exegetical dispute over particular verses of the Torah, but point to other hermeneutical levels of discourse and the rejection of Samari‑ tan claims. These texts thus reflect a remarkable understanding of some Samaritan convictions, and they demonstrate how rabbis denounced Samaritanism and refuted their counterparts. The Rabbi Me’ir dialogues thus are an impressive literary witness to the final stages of the parting of ways of these diverging religious streams. • The Prophecy of Ezekiel 38-39
1 WHAT EZEKIEL 38-39 REVEALS About A FUTURE WORLD WAR III By Steven M. Collins P.O. Box 88735 Sioux Falls, SD 571009-1005 Introduction and Context: The “latter day” prophecy found in Ezekiel 38-39 has long been seen by many Christians as a key prophecy describing events which will occur among the nations in the time preceding the Millennium (or Messianic Age). This is a lengthy and very “meaty” prophecy which needs a thorough examination in order to be understood and appreciated. This research paper has been prompted by the fact that so much is happening in world events which is directly setting the stage for the fulfillment of this prophecy in future world geopolitics. It is needful to warn as many people as possible about what will occur in the years ahead of us, because when it is fulfilled, it will shock all nations and it will drastically affect the lives of everyone on the planet. Ezekiel 38- 39 reveals, in advance, many details about a future World War III which will occur in the years ahead of us. What is noteworthy about this prophecy is that it has God’s “guarantee” that he will personally intervene as needed to make sure it comes to pass exactly as prophesied. If you are interested in knowing the future, consider what Ezekiel 38-39 has to say. If you doubt that there is a Creator God who can influence or control world events, your doubts will also be addressed in this report. As a reassurance to all potential readers, this research paper will not “grind an ax” for or against any religious denomination and it will not ask you for money.

  • Ezekiel Chapter 47
Ezekiel Chapter 47 Verses 1-12: This section reinforces the constant emphasis of the prophets that in the final kingdom amazing physical and geographical changes will occur on the earth, and especially the land of Israel. This chapter deals mainly with changes in the water. Ezekiel 47:1-2 "Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house [stood toward] the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south [side] of the altar." "Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the outer gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side." Water … issued out or flowing … eastward: A stream of water flows up from underneath the temple (Joel 3:18), going East to the Jordan, then curving South through the Dead Sea area. (Zechariah 14:8), refers to this stream as flowing from Jerusalem to the West (Mediterranean Sea), as well as to the East (Dead Sea). Its origin coincides with Christ’s Second Advent arrival on the Mt. of Olives, which will trigger a massive earthquake, thus creating a vast East-West valley running through Jerusalem and allowing for the water flow. Joel 3:18 "And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim".
