Comments from the Chair First of all, greetings to you all and I hope you enjoy the festive period Things are definitely looking more optimistic for the new year with more vaccines becoming ready for distribution. I know that some of our members have already had their first jab, so things are definitely going in the right direction. It is important not to get too far ahead of ourselves as it will be a huge undertaking to get everyone vaccinated before we can return to something approaching normal life. With this in mind, the Committee has decided that we need to hold the AGM that has been held over since June. Obviously, we cannot have a face-to-face meeting so we will be holding a 'virtual' AGM on Friday February 5th 2021 at 2 pm. We will be sending out all the relevant documentation required in mid-January by email and by post to give you all plenty of time to scrutinise them. The virtual meeting will be held via Zoom and every member is invited to join. We want to encourage as many members as possible to join and we can offer help if you need it. Phil has kindly offered to help members who are new to Zoom the week before the AGM. Further details will follow. By the time you read this, the latest TAT newsletter will have been sent out and you can also book Introduction to Zoom sessions via a link in this latest edition. -

These events center around the figure of the Krampus, a beast-like, punishing “devil” that accompanies St. Nicholas on December 5, the eve of his feast day. By 2010, groups of people in US cities were staging their own Krampusnacht processions in downtown areas, referencing the European enactments while simultaneously innovating their embodiments to meaningfully interact with the Christmas season in the United States. Participation in these events increases annually and the Krampus figure’s presence online and in popular media is on the rise. -

March 1, 2008 The Abaconian Section A Page 1 VOLUME 15, NUMBER 5 MARCH 1st, 2008 Junkanoo featured junior and senior groups Costumes, floats, music and dancing entertained crowds By Julian Lockhart Thousands of Bahamians and foreign- ers lined Don MacKay Boulevard for the long awaited Junkanoo parade 0n Abaco on February 21st for a fun-filled evening of dancing, art work and great music. The Abaco Junkanoo Committee had to postpone the parade, which is usually held during the Christmas holiday because of lack of financial support. But the delay gave the groups more than enough time to definitely make it worth the wait. For the first time the junior and senior parades was combined and a number of persons complained that it took too long with both parades on the same night, es- pecially considering many had to work the next morning. However, those who stayed were treated with “the best Junkanoo parade Abaco has ever had,” according to one Abaconian, as the school groups got Don MacKay Boule- vard rocking and the adult groups kept the groove flowing throughout the late night.
