Horse Rescue is a national, all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses that are victims of starvation, neglect, abuse or bound for slaughter for human consumption. In 2009, Pure Thoughts expanded to include a Thoroughbred Rehabilitation & Placement program pulling Thoroughbreds off the racetracks to rehabilitate, retrain and re-home them. As of August 2011, this program has become international. Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue is one of the largest horse rescues in the USA taking in over 1,700 horses since its inception in December of 2002. Tropical Storm Isaac has brought with it a 100 year flood leaving Pure Thoughts 30 inches under water in its Loxahatchee, Fl location. Shavings were washed away. Bales of hay were drenched and mold quickly set in the hot, humid Florida weather. All our farm equipment’s engines were flooded. The horses stood in stagnant water posing great risks to their delicate hoof structure and creating an environment fruitful for fungus. (pictures can be seen on the website www.PTHR. org) “We were planning on relocating to a 20 acre property in October which would give us time to build 30+ stalls to accommodate all our rescue horses waiting on their forever home,” says the organization. “Because of Isaac, we relocated 17 horses to the new, dry property right away. We have been caring for our 50+ horses on 3 separate farms. We couldn’t be doing this without our dedicated volunteers that have shown up to help feed, muck, hand walk, bath, etc. We are now finally ready to start building. Donations and handy men are in desperate need. The funny feeling that had crept up on me on the train back to London after the match had lingered. Everything had gone to plan, and we had achieved something monumental: eight 10-goal players had come together to play at Lawns. It was a fantastic match, and the 10-goalers were able to show the virtues and dynamism implicit in the style of polo we were promoting. But I was a little uneasy. I felt strange, detached—almost depressed. It was only after that night of insomnia that I realised why: the 40-goal exhibition at Cowdray clearly marked the end of a cycle for the All Pro Polo League.
