There was a change in the layout of the main restaurant so we had to unplug the computers and tills and move them to different locations in the restaurant to make it easier for visitors to use. Once we had moved all the computers, we had to set them back up how they were before we moved them. I enjoyed this as I learnt new skills and I worked with a great bunch of people. Royal Inn, Waiter August 2012 – July 2014 I experienced the role of a Kitchen Porter, after this my main role as a waiter entailed taking bookings for the restaurant and accommodation, table service including taking food and drink orders, money handling, use of tills and exceeding customers’ expectations. I also worked with the hotel side helping customers with baggage on arrival and helping with any queries about the local area to information about meals on the menu. The Rashleigh Inn Polkerris, Front Of House July 2014 – September 2016 My main role entailed working in the restaurant, this involved bar work, taking bookings for large functions, table service, cash handling and maintaining a high level of customer service at all times. I also undertook a role within the kitchen team cooking and presenting food to a high standard. The Holmbush Inn, Front Of House Septemeber 2015 – September 2016 My main role entailed bar work and running food orders whilst ensuring the customers are having a great experience. I also took bookings over the phone for large and small functions, handled cash and became extremely comfortable when using the till software AZTEC for taking food and drink orders. Trenython Manor, Front of house November 2016 – current My role contains work on the bar and also to work as part of a team in a busy silver service standard restaurant. Being in a manor environment it gave me experience of providing excellent service and ensure customer satisfaction. There is also a harbour wall and quayside at Polkerris. There are significant works on Crinnis Beach at Carlyon Bay (see photo opposite), relating to proposed development of Crinnis and Shorthorn beaches above the current mean high water position, on the site of the now derelict Cornwall Coliseum. Heritage Charlestown Harbour Historic features are present with four Scheduled Monuments in the area including a Bronze Age barrow close to Gribbin Head, and an Iron Age fort at Black Head. Also present are numerous barrows, and Par and Charlestown (photo, right) are historic china clay ports.There are also Historic Parks and Gardens at Tregrehan and a number of Conservation Areas present including Charlestown and Polkerris. Charlestown Harbour is included within the Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site designation.

    Case Study 5.3 – Polperro to Penzance, Cornwall 1. Location This case study examines the role that art and photographic images can fulfil in supporting understanding of coastal change affecting some of Cornwall’s south coast harbours, together with consideration of St Michael’s Mount, Mount’s Bay near Penzance. 2. Why was the Case Study Site selected? Cornwall’s historic ports and harbours have fulfilled a vital role for centuries in support of the local economy through the fishing and mining industries in particular and, more recently, tourism. Their physical location in the narrow and steep coastal zone give the Cornish harbours a unique character, which is recognised as a key component of Cornwall’s historic environment and heritage (Johns & Fleming, 20161). Many of the harbours and their protective walls have been in existence for hundreds of years and this illustrates their resilience but also their vulnerability in the face of potentially increasing storminess and unsettled weather patterns. The case studies examine, over time, how artists have depicted the harbour structures and the changes that can be observed through the artworks over the last 200 years. At the western end of this study site, St Michael’s Mount is one of Cornwall’s most famous landmarks. During the severe winter storms of 2013/14, the causeway leading from Marazion out to the Island was seriously damaged. Risk are posed to the causeway in the future as a result of sea level rise and changes in weather patterns.
