Cleaner Green Campaign at Thorne & Moorends DMBC

As part of the council’s Cleaner Green campaign it was been agreed that the campaign would go to Thorne/Moorends in February. This follows on from a couple of successful events at the end of last year; the more successful area was where there was high footfall and any impact was clearly visible to the public.

If you are not aware of the cleaner greener campaign it is essentially a joint initiative between Enforcement, Street Scene, Communities and Comms which aims to increase the pride in the borough and encourage everybody to take responsibility for keeping clean.

Bumping Spaces Wednesdays 10 -2 (Denaby Community Library) This session continues to grow in popularity and we regularly see 50+ people at each session. There is no set agenda or timetable – it is literally come and chat, have a cup of tea and join in Page 7 with whatever is going on – craft, jewellery making, models, dominoes, whatever you are interested in they will try to make it happen. They have recently all been out for lunch together and are looking to make it a regular monthly event.

Dog Daisy TARA The TARA continues to do sterling work for their community. The area is looking wonderful and they have been working in partnership with St Leger Homes of Doncaster, Doncaster Council and their local councillors to ensure that everything comes together.

Windhill HUB Junior TARA The group goes from strength to strength – we have had 4 new members in the last month. We also have our newest Junior Volunteer ‘Chloe’ who will be supported in her development to become a full committee member. Lucy the chair of the TARA commented ‘how fantastic it is that the young people of this community are showing their interest at a young age’.

Craganour TARA Wow – it has been another busy month for the group from painting and decorating of the venue to a well-attended and supported evening for Comic Relief. The group raised a mammoth £315 for the charity and as you can see from the pictures below there was a bit of pain involved for our waxed volunteers Paula and Tom. Exciting times are ahead for the group they have been shortlisted for the Northern final of Community Group of the year and will be attending an event at the beginning of April to see if they win their category. Marie from the TARA is also looking to set up our second Junior TARA after the Easter holidays so hopefully more news in next month’s report

Page 8 Golden Oldies Our newest Tenant club has taken a firm hold in the community and is well supported. Each week sees a freshly home cooked meal and a dessert for just £2.50. The food is fantastic (Steak Pie, Roast Chicken Dinner, Pork Steak with all the trimmings, Stew and Dumplings to name but just a few.) Alison the chair of the group is like our very own masterchef. We also have 2 new chefs in the making who will be attending our next Food Safety course so they can be hands on in the kitchen.

Denaby Tablet Group From little acorns grow mighty oaks…. What started as a quick enquiry as to whether there was any help available for an 86 year old lady who needed help with her new Tablet has become a very well attended support group. We have already helped our tenants to secure better tariffs for their phone and have looked at energy comparison. If you know anyone who would be interested we meet each Thursday, 10am at Denaby Library, Springwell Centre.
