Okanagan University College, Kelowna, British Columbia. 18 pp. Biogeography of Behr’s Hairstreak, Satyrium behrii columbia (McDunnough 1944) in the South Okanagan (Analysis of data collected in 2003 and earlier) PART 1. Inventory Survey and Mapping Introduction Behr’s Hairstreak (Satyrium behrii W. H. Edwards, 1870) is confined to the south Okanagan Valley of British Columbia in Canada(Guppy & Shepard, 2001). Kondla (2003) estimates the Canadian distribution at less than 1% of the global distribution of this species. The species ranges south to southern California, northern Arizona and New Mexico, and an outlier population is found in northwest Texas. From about the middle of Oregon, north to British Columbia, the species’ range narrows to a thin band terminating in British Columbia south of Penticton. This range follows the eastern boundaries of the Oregon and South Cascades Ecogeographic Provinces into Washington state, and parallels the course of the Columbia eastward to Spokane County, and northward along Okanagan river system into BC (Opler, 1999, Pyle 2002). The subspecies Satyrium behrii columbia(McDunnough,1944) is the taxon found in BC and throughout Cascadia(Pyle, 2002). The type locality is at Fairview near Oliver (Guppy & Shepard, 2001). In Cascadia, including BC, antelope brush (Purshia tridentata (Pursh)) is the only known larval foodplant of Behr’s Hairstreak (Guppy & Shepard 2001, Shepard 2000, Pyle 2002). Previous field work indicates that yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.) is the most widely utilized nectar source.

Contact E-Fauna BC The following is a rare bird list of the casual and accidental bird species that have been recorded within the boundaries of British Columbia. This list should be considered a starting point as there is currently no BC Provincial Records Committee and there is no publications are available that list all of the records in one document. Skin specimens, photographs, tape recordings, and/or adequate field notes document many of these records, and with the introduction of digital cameras to birding in the early 2000s many records in the past 10 years have been photographed; however, field notes remain extremely valuable and, particularly as some of these records are solely substantiated by field notes. In the case of records with no supporting documentation, the records are listed as “hypothetical” and are separated from the better substantiated (“confirmed”) records. In addition, for several species the identification is correct but the origin of the bird may be in question; these species are also considered “hypothetical” here. With the introduction of chat groups in 1999/2000, as well as personal birding blogs in the mid- to late 2000s, there are many more outlets to share and document birds today than in prior years. In many cases, digital photos accompany reported records, rendering the decisions of records committees almost obsolete for many sightings. These committees do play an important function in the review of records, however, as they provide an objective platform to help separate well-documented, and presumably accurate, records from those that are less reliable.

VISION: Kamloops Airport (KAL) is recognized by all stakeholders as one of the most important economic engines in the region – facilitating efficient, cost-effective travel and trade opportunities for local businesses and community members. Jj Kamloops Airport Authority Society is composed of City of Kamloops council members, City of Kamloops staff and members drawn from the public at large. In 1997 Vantage Airport Group (then Vancouver Airport Services) signed a 45-year lease with the Kamloops Airport Authority Society to manage and operate the Kamloops airport. The Kamloops Airport is an integral part of the business and travel community within the Kamloops Region and serves a catchment area of approximately 138,000 residents. We are committed to working with our community in taking a proactive role in continually improving local service. The airport currently facilitates regular air service to eight destinations in British Columbia and Alberta, including Vancouver, Kelowna, Prince George and Calgary. In 2014, we surpassed 300,000 travelers. In addition to serving the traveling public, the airport handles air cargo traffic and is home to a number of aviation-related industrial operations including the Provincial Wildfire Command Headquarters for BC Forest Service.

    British Columbia Rare Bird List: Casual and Accidental Records May 1, 2018: 4th Edition compiled by Rick Toochin, Jamie Fenneman, Paul Levesque and Don Cecile. Comments? Contact E-Fauna BC The following is a rare bird list of the casual and accidental bird species that have been recorded within the boundaries of British Columbia. The taxonomic order follows the American Ornithological Society’s Fifty-eighth supplement to the A.O.S Check-list of North American Birds (Chesser et al. 2017). There are no previous publications available that list all of the records in one document. Skin specimens, photographs, tape recordings, and/or adequate field notes document many of these records, and with the introduction of digital cameras to birding in the early 2000s many records in the past 10 years have been photographed; however, field notes remain extremely valuable and, particularly as some of these records are solely substantiated by field notes. In the case of records with no supporting documentation, the records are listed as “hypothetical” and are separated from the better substantiated (“confirmed”) records. In addition, for several species the identification is correct, but the origin of the bird may be in question; these species are also considered “hypothetical” here. With the introduction of chat groups in 1999/2000, as well as personal birding blogs in the mid- to late 2000s, there are many more outlets to share and document birds today than in prior years. In many cases, digital photos accompany reported records, rendering the decisions of records committees almost obsolete for many sightings. These committees do play an important function in the review of records, however, as they provide an objective platform to help separate well-documented, and presumably accurate, records from those that are less reliable.
