NPS Form 10-900-a (Rev. 8/2002) OMB No. 1024-0018 (Expires 5-31-2012) United States Department of the Interior Rice -Dodge -Burgess FarmPut Here National Park Service Name of Property Herkimer County, New York National Register of Historic Places County and State N/A Continuation Sheet Name of multiple listing (if applicable) Section number 7 Page 1 Descriptive Summary The Rice-Dodge-Burgess Farm is located on a 57.02-acre parcel situated on the east side of State Route 51 (formerly, the Ilion Plank Road), just north of its intersection with Swamp Road (running west to Wall Street) and Richfield Hill Road (running east to Depot Road) in the Town of Winfield, Herkimer County, New York.1 Historically, the community that grew up around these crossroads was known as Chepachet. The nominated property consists of a gable-roofed stone house (1830); timber-framed barn (early-mid 19th c.); stone smoke house (early-mid 19th c.); small family cemetery (1827-late 19th or early 20th c.); stone dam, mill pond, and mill ruins (between 1815-1830); and farm fields under cultivation since at least the 1820s. The house is oriented roughly perpendicular to State Route 51 on a small rise with the barn and smoke house located to the rear (northeast). The façade (and roof ridge) face southwest towards the mill pond known as Chepachet Pond; its dam impounds waters of the upper Unadilla River flowing west southwest through low- lying land from Unadilla Lake at Miller’s Mills. The mill pond defines the farm’s southern boundary along Richfield Hill Road, and the river makes up the parcel’s eastern

Graham Heaslip State University College at Cortland Cortland, New York It i s particularly appropriate that we examine the Ithaca Formation in the Cortland area during the Golden Anniversary Meeting of the New York State Geological Association. The rocks of this region are of con­ siderable historical interest, having received attention since the earli­ est days of geolog ical investigation in New York State . In fact, the presence of fossil shells in the Devonian rocks of New York was first noted in 1751 at a hillside outcrop in Cortland County by John Bartram, a member of the Lewis Evans Onondaga expedition (We lls, 1963). The New York Devonian is unique in its completeness, fossil content. numerous outcrops, and relatively undisturbed nature. It is the standard reference section for North America and displays a classic example of facies transition. Stratigraphic and paleontologic investigation over the past century has produced a wealth of infonnation, but uDespite this, perhaps another century of rigorous study wi ll be required before a thor­ ough understanding of its paleontology, lithology, stratigraphy and paleoecology can be attained. n (Rickard. 1964). The early stratigraphic work in the Upper Devonian of New York was done mainly by James Hall. J. M. Clarke. and H. S. Williams between 1840 and 1915 . These workers subdivided the succession, described the faunas and attempted to correlate along the strike. Due to comp l ex interfinger­ ing of the argillaceous western sequence with the thicker arenaceous eastern sequence, correlations proved difficult.

Genesee Street Syracuse, New York Dear Don: At the request of the Syracuse Landmarks Preservation Board I visited this property on March 21 and 28, 2007 for the purpose of assessing the significance and integrity of the building's exterior relative to its eligibility for Protected Site status. Limited photographs were taken and are provided as an attachment. The interior of the building is not being considered as part of this review. Building Location: The building is located in Block 373 at the southeast corner of the intersection of E. Genesee Street and University Avenue and faces north. Architectural Character & Integrity: The structure appears to have been built as a single family residence in the third quarter of the 19th century and now houses medical offices. The building is comprised of a primary mass with symmetrical half hexagon bays projecting east and west from the southeast and southwest corners. This primary mass is two stories tall with a third level enclosed by a straight (vs. curved face) Mansard-style roof. A lower two story form extends across the back of the building and immediately east of that is a one story form that may be an earlier porch that has been enclosed. Another one story mass is tucked into the inside corner made by the east side of the building and the east bay. (See photos.) A one story, wood framed, open porch is located at the center of the north facade.

The goal of the “Connective Corridor” is to create multimodal pathways through complete urban streetscapes that accommodate walking, biking, touring and transit, and infuse emerging technologies in an ambitious civic engineering project. The Gridley Building was constructed in 1867 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    Appendix C Photographs of NR-Listed and Eligible Properties in the APE NYS DOT Architectural Resources Survey 112-16 BURNET AVE/ Michael Dolpin Building/ Barboni Building (06740.000260) The Michael Dolpin Rowhouse was determined eligible for the NR in 1994 under Criterion C. The Michael Dolpin Rowhouse is located at 112-116 Burnet Avenue. The two-story Italianate brick building was constructed in 1872 for Michal Dolpin, a Syracuse lumber dealer. The build- ing is ornamented with a bracketed cornice and saw-tooth band. The matching one and two-bay porches are representative of the Eastlake style detailed with brackets and spindlework friezes. The Michael Dolpin Rowhouse is eligible for the NR under Criterion C as a rare surviving exam- ple of an unaltered Victorian rowhouse. 1 NYS DOT Architectural Resources Survey 204 BURNET AVE/ Corner Block Factory Shop/ Turack Motor Service (06740.000385) The Syracuse Corner Block Company factory was determined eligible for the NR in 2009 as a part of the multiple properties nomination for Industrial and Large Scale Commercial Buildings in the City of Syracuse. The three-story red brick factory is located at 204 Burnet Avenue and was constructed in 1895. The factory produced square turning, head, base, and corner blocks.
