Announcement from The Kiski School Chief Financial Officer Position Opening The Kiski School (www.kiski.org) seeks a Chief Financial Officer beginning July 1, 2021. The CFO reports to the Head of School, serves as a member of the school’s senior leadership team, and oversees all aspects of the school’s finances and $13.5M annual budget. The CFO manages the Business Office, staffed by two other individuals. Kiski is a private, non‐profit educational organization founded in 1888 and enrolling young men from all over the world who wish to prepare themselves for college. The school’s 350‐acre campus overlooks the town of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, located approximately 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. About 180 boys and 40 faculty and staff live on campus. Essential Responsibilities: • Administrative control and supervision of all business and financial operations of the school • Leading the financial relationship with Board of Trustees committees: Finance, Investment, and Audit • Partnering with the Head of School and the Board Finance Committee to develop the annual operating budget and structuring and maintaining a long-range financial model for the school • Administering employee insurance and benefit programs • Serving a key role in the employee and vendor contract processes • Managing relationships with banking partners and overseeing loan and lease agreements • Maintaining appropriate levels of insurance to protect school property and liability • Day-to-day management of cash-flow and working with all school departments to ensure expenses are managed efficiently and the budget is achieved • Processing the monthly faculty & administrative payroll through ADP • Preparing for the annual audits of the school’s finances and pension plans • Monitoring regulations and preparing annual report for the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program • Anticipating potential budget variances and identifying opportunities to increase revenue • Preparing financial models to inform and support leadership decision making Qualifications & Skills: • Degree in business and/or accounting required; advanced degree or CPA certification preferred • Highly effective hands-on management skills coupled with an ability to set priorities and complete projects in a timely fashion • Strong personal skills, approachable, and team-oriented • Proven sound business judgment, financial acumen, and effective analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills Kiski offers a competitive salary structure commensurate with experience. 2019 ANNUAL REPORT oliverscholars.org 1 WELCOME Dear Friends of Oliver Scholars, 2019 was a year of significant changes and transformation for Oliver Scholars. We welcomed a new CEO, along with new members of our senior leadership team; we embarked on a strategic planning process to ensure the long-term sustainability of our institution; we expanded our outreach to include the CEO Salon Series; we launched new partnerships to help our college scholars and recent college graduates access expanded career opportunities; our work together was featured on CBS This Morning and CNN Heroes; and we began the process of reimagining and deepening our work with scholars, partner schools, parents, and alumni. Luckily, we did not have to start from scratch. The truth is that Oliver Scholars has a long track record of engaging with scholars and other stakeholders in ways that reflect the kind of care, intention, and thought you’d expect from any world-class youth-serving organization. Our current scholars and accomplished and engaged alumni often bear witness to the transformative impact this organization has had on their lives. Time and time again, as we spoke with members of this amazing community, there was one unifying word that showed up in every conversation: FAMILY. Many thanks to participants in the microeconomics brownbag at Brown University and the in-house workshop at the Center for Naval Analysis for their helpful feedback. 1 Abstract This paper analyzes the effects of assignment to a one-year college preparatory program on academic performance in college. To measure the value added from pre-college programs, we use a large dataset of United States Naval Academy students from the 1988 to 2011 graduating classes, of which roughly 20% received post-high school remediation. Given the Academy's unique admissions criteria that each student must receive a nomination from their member of Congress, we instrument for pre-college treatment using the degree of competition for a Congressional nomination. After incorporating this instrument as well as a wide range of outcome measures and background characteristics, we find that preparatory programs promote human capital at the extensive margin, but not at the intensive margin. Specifically, these pre-college programs promote higher graduation rates but actually lower average student achievement. Pre-college treatment gives struggling students just enough exposure to academic material to keep them from failing out, but also lowers performance for otherwise capable students.

New EQT Scholars Program Sends Two Students to The Kiski School PITTSBURGH (August 24, 2018) – The Kiski School and the EQT Foundation announced the selection of two students as the inaugural scholarship recipients in Kiski’s EQT Scholars program. Christopher Moncrief of Turtle Creek, PA, and Alex Figueroa of New York City will receive full scholarships covering tuition, room and board for their enrollment in the ninth through 12th grades at Kiski, an all-boys college preparatory high school in Saltsburg, PA, 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. The boys will begin classes as ninth-graders on September 5. “Kiski is thrilled to welcome these exceptional young men,” said Chris Brueningsen, Kiski headmaster. “At Kiski, we know how to bring out the best in every boy and prepare him to thrive in school and in life. We are honored by the EQT Foundation’s decision to provide an endowment at Kiski that will continue to benefit deserving students for years to come.” Kiski’s EQT Scholars program is funded by a $2.8 million grant from the EQT Foundation, which will provide an ongoing source of funding for the program. "The EQT Scholars Program illustrates the Foundation's mission by providing meaningful educational experiences to children who may not otherwise have the opportunity," said EQT Foundation President Charlene Petrelli.
