A 45-minute drive from downtown , Kiski School’s sprawling 350-acre campus in Western Pennsylvania was once a resort spot for 19th-century visitors seeking rejuvenation and health improvement from the area’s natural mineral springs and picturesque landscape. Believing these same environs would stimulate learning, Andrew W. Wilson acquired the land in 1888 and opened The Kiskiminetas Springs School as a preparatory school for boys, intended to rival its East Coast counterparts in every way. Today, Kiski School maintains its commitment to a college preparatory program that balances academic rigor, athletic competition, and an unfaltering emphasis on the long- held traditions of civility, inclusion, and concern for community.

The School typically enrolls about 200 boys in grades 9 through PG. With 97% of students living on campus, Kiski boys enjoy a close-knit, familial community where faculty are holistically engaged in their development as teachers, coaches, one-on-one tutors, and advisors. An intentional ethics and personal development curriculum is interwoven throughout Kiski’s academics and residential life programming, fostering the development of important character traits of trust, honesty, and integrity in all aspects of student life—scholastic, residential, and extracurricular.

The School enrolls approximately 28% international students from 23 different countries. Seventy- three percent of Kiski students receive financial aid each year, totaling over $5.7 million annually. Kiski School is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA).

The Search Group | Carney, Sandoe & Associates 3 [email protected] | www.carneysandoe.com In October, the school announced it will “reset” its annual tuition rate for the 2020-21 academic year to $48,500, 20% lower than the national average for boarding schools. Approved by Kiski’s Board of Trustees, this new tuition structure directly counters the alarming trend of rising educational costs, especially for private institutions. While the school’s tuition is being reduced from its current rate of $61,300, all of the high-quality elements that distinguish a Kiski education will remain as strong as they have always been. The change reflects Kiski’s desire to move away from an industry-driven pricing model resulting in a growing number of parents unable to afford a private school education for their children.

The Search Group | Carney, Sandoe & Associates 8 [email protected] | www.carneysandoe.com New Innovations in the Admissions and Enrollment Office at Kiski

• Kiski has moved away from the more traditional use of the SSS, generally utilized in the community, opting instead to create their own process to measure what aid is given to families. Their emphasis is on the net cost of Kiski as opposed to the financial aid award calculator. The process is more streamlined than SSS, making it more user friendly for families. • Unlike other independent schools, Kiski’s admissions and enrollment process is now test optional. Instead, the focus is on an applicant’s accomplishments in the classroom and outside of it. • Finally, starting in 2020, Kiski will become the first K-12 school in the country to introduce a tuition reset, making the school the leader in helping make tuition more affordable. This spring, Kiski retained consultant Lucie Lapovsky who has led tuition resets in 24 colleges over the last nine years and launched the plan to reset Kiski’s tuition from $61,300 to $48,500 in 2020, competitively priced at 20% less than the national average. The school will continue to provide a significant amount of need-based assistance and sacrifice nothing in quality of the Kiski educational experience.
