We are also well aware of the many difficulties our coaches face educating our students through athletics while also creating competitive programs. It is the hope of Kiski’s Athletic Department that parents will be involved in their sons’ athletic careers while they are at Kiski and also understand the importance of the coach-student athlete relationship. Clear, concise communication between coach and athlete is the cornerstone of all successful athletic teams, and to a greater degree, a successful athletic program. Hopefully, parents will feel connected to Kiski’s athletic programs and more importantly, Kiski’s talented coaches. The following are guidelines that have been established to create clear and direct communication between athletes, parents, and coaches. Required Parent Concussion Education: All parents/guardians must be educated in the approved concussion management course. Parents/guardians are required by law to take one of the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s three approved concussion programs. Every new student will receive a Concussion Impact Test and a follow up test every two years. All health care and concussion information goes to Magnus Health which is the manager of Kiski students’ medical records. If you have any questions, please contact Magnus Health, Customer Service for Parents, 877-461-6831 or email, [email protected]. Required Safety Information for Parents: Please review the safety information on Kiski’s website at www.kiski.org. After reviewing the information, please sign and return the acknowledgement form to Magnus Health. When things do not go the way you or your son would like them to, you are encouraged to call Chris Spahn, Director of Athletics, to discuss with him any of your concerns. It is our experience that frustration may occur over time, which does not support a healthy relationship or athletic program. We do ask all parents to please wait 24-hours after a game, before placing any calls. There are times when things seem much worse in the moment than they do after time has elapsed. If you still feel there is a need to talk after 24-hours have passed, please call the Director of Athletics. There are times a conference between the coach and parents is necessary and provides everyone with a clear understanding of each other’s position. The following procedures should be followed to help promote a resolution: I Contact the Director of Athletics to set up a meeting I If you feel the need to speak with a coach after the game, please find or call the athletic director before approaching the coach. The Kiski School’s Athletic Department believes that part of the role of education through sports is to teach our athletes and our community to conduct themselves with sportsmanship and respect for the opponent and officials. The Kiski community focuses on encouraging our teams and players, while not disrupting or confronting the officials, opposing players, or fans. We expect our community to not only encourage our teams, but to be a positive support system for our athletes and coaches. This type of behavior creates and promotes a wholesome atmosphere that enhances Kiski’s overall program. The ultimate goal of Kiski’s Athletic Department is to provide a program that is positive and successful. Clear, concise and open communication between coaches, athletes, and parents is essential in providing an environment that fosters growth to all involved. www.kiski.org 3 Kiski-AthleticGuideforParents:Layout 1 7/13/17 9:55 AM Page 6 Contact Information Christopher Spahn Director of Athletics Office: 724-639-8040 Cell: 724-858-0412 Email: [email protected] Mary Grace Muster Assistant Director of Athletics Office: 724-639-0420 Cell: 724-875-4642 Email: [email protected] Taresa Cunnard, RN, BSN Director of Health Services Office: 724-639-8034 Cell: 724-454-5911 Email: [email protected] Robert Eckenrode, A.T.C.
