A list of the 24 species in 16 genera and two subfamilies collected in Kuril Islands is given. Twenty-two species are firstly recorded from Iturup Island. Chlorops mugivorus Nishijma et Kanmiya, 1975 and Rhodesiella tripectinata Kanmiya, 1983 are recorded for the fauna of Russia for the first time. Moreover, Thaumatomyia trifasciata (Zetterstedt, 1848) is firstly recorded from Kuril Islands (Paramushir). Key words: Diptera, Chloropidae, fauna, new records, Kuril Islands, Russia. Э. П. Thaumatomyia trifasciata (Zetterstedt, 1848). The Chloropidae is a family of Cyclorrhaphous flies with great taxonomic diversity. Most of species have phytophagous larvae developing in shoots or in inflorescences of grasses and sedges (Poaceae and Cyperaceae). Many species have saprophagous larvae feed on decaying tissues of plants damaged by other insects, in fungi, in rotting wood with mycelia. Some species have carnivorous or parasitic larvae developing in egg cocoons of spider, egg pod of Acrididae and Mantidae, some species are predators of root aphids.

  • Distribution of Oscinellinae (Diptera: Chloropidae) in the Danish Landscape Lise Brunberg Nielsen
Distribution of Oscinellinae (Diptera: Chloropidae) in the Danish landscape Lise Brunberg Nielsen Nielsen, Lise Brunberg: Distribution of Oscinellinae (Diptera: Chloropidae) in the Danish Landscape. Ent. Meddr 82: 39-62, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2014. ISSN 0013-8851 Abstract About 29,700 Oscinellinae were collected by means of sweep net, water traps and pitfalls in a variety of uncultivated habitats in Denmark mainly in Jutland. So far 75 species belonging to 21 genera are re corded from Denmark. Eleven species are new to the Danish fauna. Morphological details of Aphanotrigonum brachypterum, A. hungaricum, A. nigripes, Conioscinella gallarum, lncertella albipalpis, I. nigrifrons, I. kerteszi, I. scotica and Oscinella angustipennis are presented. The distribu tion of Oscinellinae in the Danish landscape is discussed. In Denmark, farmland dominates, so the two most abundant Oscinellarspecies of ara ble land, Oscinella frit and 0. vastator, are also predominant in most nat ural habitats. Small and larger uncultivated areas, however, making up only 25 % of the Danish landscape, contain a rich fauna of Oscinel lines. The advantage of different sampling methods combined is demonstrated.

TREWICK defining feature of the Hexapoda, as the name suggests, is six legs. Also, the body comprises a head, thorax, and abdomen. The number A of abdominal segments varies, however; there are only six in the Collembola (springtails), 9–12 in the Protura, and 10 in the Diplura, whereas in all other hexapods there are strictly 11. Insects are now regarded as comprising only those hexapods with 11 abdominal segments. Whereas crustaceans are the dominant group of arthropods in the sea, hexapods prevail on land, in numbers and biomass. Altogether, the Hexapoda constitutes the most diverse group of animals – the estimated number of described species worldwide is just over 900,000, with the beetles (order Coleoptera) comprising more than a third of these. Today, the Hexapoda is considered to contain four classes – the Insecta, and the Protura, Collembola, and Diplura. The latter three classes were formerly allied with the insect orders Archaeognatha (jumping bristletails) and Thysanura (silverfish) as the insect subclass Apterygota (‘wingless’). The Apterygota is now regarded as an artificial assemblage (Bitsch & Bitsch 2000).

  • Cheshire Wildlife Trust
Cheshire Wildlife Trust Heteroptera and Diptera surveys on the Manchester Mosses with PANTHEON analysis by Phil Brighton 32, Wadeson Way, Croft, Warrington WA3 7JS [email protected] on behalf of Lancashire and Cheshire Wildlife Trusts Version 1.0 September 2018 Lancashire Wildlife Trust Page 1 of 35 Abstract This report describes the results of a series of surveys on the Manchester mosslands covering heteroptera (shield bugs, plant bugs and allies), craneflies, hoverflies, and a number of other fly families. Sites covered are the Holcroft Moss reserve of Cheshire Wildlife Trust and the Astley, Cadishead and Little Woolden Moss reserves of Lancashire Wildlife Trust. A full list is given of the 615 species recorded and their distribution across the four sites. This species list is interpreted in terms of feeding guilds and habitat assemblages using the PANTHEON software developed by Natural England. This shows a strong representation in the sample of species associated with shaded woodland floor and tall sward and scrub. The national assemblage of peatland species is somewhat less well represented, but includes a higher proportion of rare or scarce species. A comparison is also made with PANTHEON results for similar surveys across a similar range of habitats in the Delamere Forest. This suggests that the invertebrate diversity value of the Manchester Mosses is rather less, perhaps as a result of their fragmented geography and proximity to past and present sources of transport and industrial pollution. Introduction The Manchester Mosses comprise several areas of lowland bog or mire embedded in the flat countryside between Warrington and Manchester. They include several areas designated as SSSIs in view of the highly distinctive and nationally important habitat, such as Risley Moss, Holcroft Moss, Bedford Moss, and Astley Moss.

In: Kahanpää J, Salmela J (Eds) Checklist of the Diptera of Finland. ZooKeys 441: 311–318. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.441.7505 Abstract A checklist of 147 species the Chloropidae (Diptera) recorded from Finland. Centorisoma elegantulum Becker is recorded for the first time from Finland. Keywords Finland, Chloropidae, species list, biodiversity, faunistics Introduction The Chloropidae is a large family of acalyptrate Diptera. It belongs to superfamily Carnoidea with Milichiidae as the closest relative. The classification of the family used follows Andersson (1977) and Nartshuk (1983). The North European chloropid fauna has recently been revised by Nartshuk and Andersson (2013). Details of Finnish chloropid literature, species distribution and ecology, and other details can be found in their book. In comparison with the neigh- bouring countries, Finland ranks second in the number of chloropid species after Swe- den (189 species) but well ahead of Denmark (119 species) and Norway (97 species).
