BRADFORD DISTRICT COUNCIL ILKLEY WARD CANDIDATE AND BEN RHYDDING WARD CANDIDATE FOR ILKLEY TOWN COUNCIL

Ros Brown

I have lived in Ben Rhydding for over ten years with my husband and children now aged six and nine. For a number of years I have been active in fighting the destruction of our greenbelt, seeking to prevent flooding and pollution and standing up for our overburdened infrastructure and public services. I have made representations to the Council on these matters as an individual and through the local groups I am involved with. The proposed numbers of new houses needed in Ilkley are again under review and I will continue to work to protect our area from overdevelopment.

I know from experience and surveying over 1,600 households how important it is to local residents that we protect our green spaces. In tackling the parking challenges within our town it is vital we do not lose sight of this but work towards a more sustainable Ilkley. I am keen to increase the quality and number of walking and cycling routes, safeguard and improve public transport and introduce 20mph speed limits outside our local schools. Having brought the town’s attention to the siting of an incinerator close to Rombald’s Moor I continue to fight for the health of our local area and against this project. In response to local concerns about plastic pollution I also co- founded and am currently chairperson of ‘ Tackles Plastic’. I am committed

Promoted by Janet Russell on behalf of Ros Brown and & Ilkley District Green Party at 46 Bolton Road, , Keighley, BD20 0JY. to ensuring Bradford Council acts on its climate emergency declaration which was secured by its existing Green councillors.

As a former primary school teacher and headteacher I also share the concerns local residents have about continuing cuts to education, social care and library budgets. These false economies deprive residents of basic provisions and pass the costs of care and services onto overburdened family members, professionals and volunteers. I am used to working hard with and for community members of all ages and from all backgrounds for the benefit of the local community. I will continue to challenge cuts to our local services and work to ensure quality provision and value for money.

I have the skills, time and experience needed to achieve things for Ilkley. I am also keen to work with, and challenge, members of all political parties on Bradford District Council to ensure the best deal for our town. Unlike other candidates, I’m free to vote for what’s best for this area. The Green Party never tells their councillors how to vote so I can put residents and not party politics first. I would be honoured to be your representative on Bradford District Council and Ilkley Town Council and to get even more done for you as your councillor. [email protected]

BEN RHYDDING WARD CANDIDATE FOR ILKLEY TOWN COUNCIL

Tim Thorpe

I am 54 years old and I have never done a 'political' thing in my life. So I bring no experience or baggage to my Green Party nomination for Town Councillor. What I do bring is fear, care, enthusiasm and realism. Fear for our precious planet. Care for we who inhabit our planet. Enthusiasm to try to do 'something' about what is happening to our planet and, by extension, to us. Realism in knowing that I can take only small steps at a local level. However, if one person takes some small steps then perhaps that will inspire someone else to also take some small steps. I am a senior civil servant whose job involves bringing people together (from all over the country) to achieve long term goals. I have seen something of this planet, having worked all over Europe and having lived in the Far East (in Japan and in the Philippines I took part in ocean floor litter 'clean-up' operations). I am a father of two young girls who are thrilled that I have put myself forward for nomination; that is priceless. [email protected]

Jackie Thompson

I moved to Ilkley in 2009 following a 25 year stint in London where I rolled out Government initiatives; restructured public services and established multi-agency partnerships within and across Local Authorities.

I am standing for election because I believe that changes in the way that Local Government operates present Town Councils with new challenges and some opportunities. As the District Council cuts its costs and sheds services and buildings it is falling to our Town Council to make tough decisions as to what should be sustained and how and to ensure that any services it sponsors are tailored to local needs. Ilkley Council is also uniquely placed to advocate on behalf of our community to help ensure that it is not disadvantaged when decisions are made by District Councillors and Officers that impact directly on the lives of local residents. The Localism Act, if used well, can help with this. [email protected]

I am a retired Probation Officer who has lived in Ilkley since 1977. For many years I have been a volunteer, on , with the Bradford Countryside Service and helped to establish The Friends of Ilkley Moor 11 years ago. I have been the Chair of The Friends almost ever since.

I have three children, all of whom went to local schools. Sadly, I was widowed three years ago. Since University I have had a lifelong interest in matters of social justice and environmental issues. It is those interests that led me first to the Probation Service and latterly to The Friends of Ilkley Moor. In Ilkley we are privileged to live in the most beautiful countryside. As a Councillor I hope my deep knowledge of social disadvantage and environmental issues would inform the decisions I would take on behalf of the Ilkley residents I wish to serve. [email protected]
