CURRICULUM VITAE DI MARIA GIGLIOLA DI RENZO VILLATA Gigliola di Renzo Villata si è laureata in giurisprudenza nel 1967. Dopo aver svolto vari corsi di insegnamento aventi ad oggetto materie del gruppo delle discipline italianistiche (esegesi delle fonti del diritto italiano, storia del diritto, istituzioni giuridiche medievali, storia del diritto italiano) nelle Università di Milano, Trieste e Padova, è stata dal 1980 cattedratico di storia del diritto italiano; dal 1984 è titolare della cattedra relativa nella Facoltà di giurisprudenza dell'Università degli Studi di Milano e per vari anni ha insegnato anche storia delle codificazioni moderne. Andata fuori ruolo nel 2014 ha continuato e ad insegnare storia del diritto medievale e moderno presso la medesima università con contratto gratuito. Il 30 gennaio 2016 le stato attribuito solennemente il titolo di dottore honoris causa presso l’Université de Paris II: era stato decretato il riconoscimento nel luglio precedente Si è occupata in modo particolare di ricerche storico - giuridiche sul diritto di famiglia (tutela, separazione, patria potestà ecc.), sulla scienza giuridica (dall’età medievale all’epoca dei codici, sul versante tanto civilistico quanto criminalistico), sul diritto nello stato di Milano e nel Ducato di Parma. Ha collaborato al Lexikon des Mittelalters , all’ Enciclopedia del diritto , al Digesto IV , al Dizionario biografico degli Italiani ed alla nuova Enciclopedia Eredità del Novecento della Treccani, oltre che alla Enciclopedia federiciana , e a Il contributo italiano alla storia del pensiero- Diritto della stessa casa editrice, al Dizionario biografico dei Giuristi Italiani (secc. XII-XX) ), oltre che con numerose voci, anche in qualità di membro del Comitato scientifico , di recente all’opera miscellanea Law and the Christian Tradition in Italy. Ha partecipato con relazioni a convegni e congressi internazionali in Italia e all'estero (Francia, Spagna, Belgio, Stati Uniti, Canada, Australia), ha svolto lezioni presso la International School of Ius commune di Erice e in università europee, ha fatto parte di un gruppo di studio internazionale insieme a membri del Max-Planck Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte, dell’Institut pour l’histoire des anciens pays de droit écrit di Montpellier, e della Roobins Collection School of Law dell’University of California di Berkeley, e ora di un gruppo di studiosi internazionale che si riunisce periodicamente su tematiche di storia del diritto canonico, è stata coordinatrice nazionale e locale di vari progetti di ricerca finanziati da MIUR e da CNR, è iscritta da molti anni alla BD Reprise: in tale qualità ha valutato più progetti di ricerca stranieri e italiani, oltre effettuare costantemente attività di valutazione in regime di peer review volumi e saggi di importanti riviste del ssd IUS19. Membro del Comitato di direzione della Rivista di storia del diritto italiano, è membro effettivo dell'Istituto lombardo di scienze, lettere e arti, dell'Accademia degli immobili di Alessandria, della Società italiana di storia del diritto, di cui ha fatto parte quale membro del Consiglio Direttivo, della Société d'histoire du droit con sede a Parigi del cui Comitato direttivo fa anche attualmente parte e alla cui attività partecipa in modo continuativo, della World Association of Scientists di Erice, è stata ed è attualmente membro del Comitato di direzione della Società Storica Lombarda. E’ stato Direttore della collana di studi diritto privato del Dipartimento di diritto privato e storia del diritto, nonché della Collana del Centro di Studi sulla giustizia per numerosi anni, è membro del Comitato editoriale e scientifico della Rivista UniMi Italian Review of Legal History (fascia A) e del comitato scientifico della Collana Studies in History of Law and justice edita dalla Springer membro della Commissione ministeriale dell’Edizione Nazionale delle Opere di Pietro Verri, per la quale ha curato una sezione del I volume pubblicato nel 2003 e l’edizione del Carteggio inedito dei fratelli Verri dal 1782 al 1792. 1 Dal 1994 al 2003 ha rivestito la carica di Dirett ore dell’Istituto di storia del diritto italiano della Facoltà di Giurisprudenza dell’Università degli Studi di Milano e dai primi anni ‘90 di Direttore scientifico della Biblioteca della Facoltà di Giurisprudenza milanese. 2 Membro del Centro di Studi sulla giustizia dell’Università degli Studi di Milano di cui è stata Direttore per numerosi anni e membro sin dall’origine, attualmente membro esterno, del Centro Nazionale di prevenzione et difesa sociale; anche per più anni Direttore della Scuola di dottorato in scienze giuridiche dell’Università degli Studi di Milano, e coordinatore del corso di dottorato in scienze giuridiche et responsabile del curriculum di storia del diritto medievale e moderna del medesimo corso; Direttore del Dipartimento di diritto privato e storia del diritto dell’Università degli Studi di Milano (2012 -2014), presidente della Commissione paritetica professori-studenti (2012-2014) della Facoltà, incaricata nel 2014 della riforma de l corso di studi della ‘laurea magistrale’ in Giurisprudenza presso l’Università degli Studi di Milano.     From the Restoration to the Pisanelli Code (1815-1865): A Cultural and Historical Assessment of the Legal Status of Women in the North of the Italian Peninsula Sara Delmedico Clare College March 2018 This dissertation is submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy From the Restoration to the Pisanelli Code (1815-1865): A Cultural and Historical Assessment of the Legal Status of Women in the North of the Italian Peninsula Abstract From the Restoration to the Pisanelli Code (1815-1865): A Cultural and Historical Assessment of the Legal Status of Women in the North of the Italian Peninsula Sara Delmedico In the context of a changing political landscape, where shifts in state boundaries and socio- economic structures deeply affected the Italian peninsula and its people, this thesis analyses women and the law in action in the years from the Restoration up to the enactment of the Pisanelli code (1815-1865). It does so with particular reference to the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia. These years also saw a number of changes in the legal system with various new laws instituted. The quick succession of these legal acts testified to the new ideas, behaviours and perceptions that began to take form in the period in question, but which the patriarchal and hierarchical nineteenth century society – so reliant on strict class stratification to perpetuate its status quo - resisted fully accepting. Within this context, women began to redefine their sense of self and to think of themselves as having an identity which went beyond their traditional domestic roles of mother, wife or daughter.

After a brief introduction, in which the anonymous author extols the virtues of the republican constitution of 1795 (see item #18) as bringing an end both to noble decadence and civil discord, and notes that the reader will detect ‘mille idee di Rousseau, di Montesquieu, di Locke, di Smith, e di molti altri Filosofi’, the work is divided into thirteen letters, in which he sets out what an education would look like, both for girls and boys, that would prepare citizens for a properly engaged public life.
