  • Winter 2014 Commencement Program
Candidates FOR DEGREES DECEMBER 2014 19 COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS Despite UTEP’s origins as a technology school, the first dean of the School of Mines and Metallurgy, Steve H. Worrell, recognized the importance of liberal arts as part of the core curriculum for engineers. Dean Worrell, himself very familiar with the unique requirements of the Paso del Norte region having worked in the region for several years, required all engineering students to study Spanish. To teach this course, Worrell hired one of the school’s first students, Raul Ramon Barberena, making Barberena the first Hispanic instructor in the University of Texas System. The School of Mines continued to add liberal arts courses up through 1927, when the school, to better meet the needs of the state’s fastest growing city, transformed into a general college, creating a division of arts and sciences along side the school of engineering. In 1932, the liberal arts program graduated its first class of majors, and within a year surpassed the number of engineering graduates. Liberal arts went on to become the largest college at UTEP in 1966 when it separated from the School of Arts and Sciences. Today, the College of Liberal Arts provides students access to 130 undergraduate degrees, 20 master’s programs and 3 doctoral programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and the arts. • Cubed Circle Newsletter #6
For a full color pdf click here The Cubed Circle Newsletter We have a gigantic issue this week, an issue over ten pages long, that includes reviews of WWE Vengeance, ROH on SBG and the ratings and lists for this month. There is no Bits and Pieces segment this week, but there will be one next week, more information in the preview section. As always you can find a full PDF above and if you haven’t downloaded it already, I urge you to do so. Cubed Circle Wrestling Newsletter Rating System *- Horrendous match, bad booking, bad pacing, botches left and right, poor work rate and bad crowd reactions can all lead to this. **- Below average match, forgettable, couldn’t have added much for the show unless there was a great angle, before after or during the match. ***- Good match, there were some really good points in the match, had fun watching it, it had some points missing, the crowd possibly wasn’t into it or it didn’t go long enough. But, the match was still good. ****- Great match, well worked, the crowd were most likely into it, this match was a highlight of the show. The match would most likely be in the top 50 matches of the year. *****- Almost guaranteed match of the year, ticked all the boxes well worked, well booked, great crowd, had some amazing spots, very few botches or no botches that really affected the match and the match could influence the business in a major way. This is a prestigious rating and it is the highest acclaim I could possibly give for a match, this rating is only given out with extreme thought and consideration.
