Mrs Jane Tiller Mr Keith Vickerman Headteacher, Immanuel College Co-opted Governor Governor Keith Vickerman retires after over 45 years of service Immanuel College and the governors say thank you to Keith Vickerman, who has retired after a lifetime of public service to schools in Bradford, Shipley and London. More than 50 years ago, he was part of the Shipley Education Executive under the West Riding Education Committee. The first decision he was involved with related to whether schools went to comprehensive status or not, and he was also Keith is very modest and underplays the significant contribution he has heavily involved in the planning of this. made to school governance. He has been an active governor for over 46 years with 28 of those in Bradford schools. He joined Immanuel in 2001 In seeking a comprehensive education for the area, Keith wanted and has been constant in his support of the school. He has had a clear and to assure that the good quality of teaching seen in grammar passionate commitment to wanting the very best education and schools was replicated in a comprehensive setting. We will miss him very much and wish him employment moved him to Arbroath, then Liverpool and London all the best in his retirement. and it was only on returning to Shipley 30 years later that he had the opportunity to see how the planning had worked out. Denise Sterling, Chair of Governors We are very grateful for Keith’s dedication and hard work in the service of Immanuel College as a Governor. He has always been very committed and supportive of the school and its students. Jane Tiller, Headteacher Immanuel College has fulfilled all my ideas of how a comprehensive school should be organised. Our Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team are always looking for improvements and if something doesn’t work they look for other improvements. They are constantly looking to improve attendance and do this very successfully. Immanuel College looks after all the students and from my observation, our Headteacher feels very strongly about this. She constantly congratulates all students on their achievements and this school for me has demonstrated that it is a fully inclusive school. It is with great sadness that I will now be retiring as a governor, however I look forward to keeping in touch with the team at Immanuel and watching the school grow with the upcoming expansion. Oakworth Road, Keighley, BD22 7DU Tel: 01535 210111 Email: [email protected] Proudly using recycled paper #ecobeckfoottrust School Admission Statement for Beckfoot Oakbank Allocations for Beckfoot Oakbank School are made in accordance with the co-ordinated scheme which forms part of the Local Authority’s (LA) published admission arrangements. In Bradford, parents may list up to three schools on the In-Year Application Form or up to five preferences when applying for year 7 in the normal admissions round. Although legislation gives parents a right to express a preference for a particular school, the Beckfoot Trust has to first consider whether there is a place available and then whether your child qualifies for a place using the oversubscription criteria below. If your child could be given a place at more than one of your preferred schools, the LA will offer a place at the highest-ranked preference. Pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan The admission of pupils with a Education, Health and Care Plan is dealt with by a separate procedure. Such children will be admitted to the named school named without reference to the oversubscription criteria below. Tie Break When demand exceeds places in any of the following criteria, the distance between the child’s home and school, measured by a straight line distance from the Ordnance Survey address point of the home to the main entrance to the school building, will be used to decide who is given a place; those living nearest being given the available places. Where the offer of places to applicants with equi-distant addresses would lead to oversubscription, the decision of who will be offered the place will be made by random selection.

  • First-Story-Impact-Report-2019-20
IMPACT REPORT 2019/20 What I personally wish “this century to see [is] a balance of stories where every people will be able to contribute to a definition of themselves, where we are not victims of other people's accounts. – CHINUA ACHEBE FOREWARD This has been a year cut in two: before and after the pandemic. In the first half of the year, First Story was working in 52 schools, over four regions, delivering our Young Writers Programme. In December 2019, 330 students and 18 professional writers travelled to Cambridge University for our Young Writers' Festival and, in March 2020, schools across London gathered at Greenwich University to write together. Our live events are the summit of the First Story experience; anyone at them sees instantly how excited students are to write and how developing their own voice has brought new confidence. When schools closed on 20 March 2020, most First Story programmes in schools were drawing to a natural close; students had shared ideas for producing the anthology and selected their best work. Then began the second half of the year. Like everyone else, First Story had to adapt quickly to a challenging new world. Writers, students and teachers collaborated online to finish anthologies. Together with our partners, we took National Writing Day entirely online. Over 100,000 young people used our resources and took part in our #247Challenge. Writing together was a way of making a community when everyone was isolated in lockdown. Our virtual residential week brought students together from across the country for a week of intensive writing.
