Davis’ performance in a pair of individual events helped the Red Flash reclaim the NEC Championship in February with a five-point victory over Monmouth. He posted a convincing victory in the 400 meters, crossing the tape in 48.58, and also took second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.20. Both marks qualified Davis for the IC4A Championships, where he placed 14th in the 400 meters and 19th in the 200 meters. He also struck gold at the NEC meet in the distance medley relay, running the second leg for the Red Flash, which won the event in 10:32.90. Davis, a Mississauga, Ontario native, closed out his career as a two-time NEC individual champion, having also captured the 400 meters outdoors at the 2007 championship meet. Davis majors in Marketing and carries a 3.34 grade point average. 2009 NEC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Anna Hoffman, Saint Francis (PA) Major: Elementary/Special Education Saint Francis (PA) junior distance runner Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, PA/Mohawk) takes home NEC Scholar-Athlete accolades in women’s indoor track and field. A year ago, the Enon Valley, PA product won the 5,000 meters in a meet record time of 17:23.11, and has also claimed individual crowns outdoors in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters. She has also logged three top-10 finishes over the course of her career at the NEC Cross Country Championships. The NEC looks forward to an exciting championship here at the state-of-the-art P.G. County Sports Complex, a facility which will provide our student-athletes and fans a tremendous championship experience. During the next two days, over 765 talented track and field athletes on 23 different teams will compete in 17 events through three trials, semi-finals and finals. By Sunday afternoon, we will know if the Saint Francis (PA) men's team and the Monmouth's women's team are able to defend their championships. Now in its 29th season, the NEC consists of 11 institutions of higher learning located throughout five states. The Conference is committed to providing opportunities for student-athletes to achieve their fullest potential both in athletic competition and in the classroom, as well as becoming an NCAA Division I leader for athletic success, academic achievement and integrity, sportsmanship, equity and diversity, community partnership and national engagement. NEC mem- ber institutions include Central Connecticut State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, St. Francis (NY), Saint Francis (PA) and Wagner. Bryant University will become a core member of the NEC in 2012 upon completion of the five-year NCAA Division I reclassification period. NEC institutions span a number of diverse locations, from the urban bustle of Brooklyn, NY to the rural settings of Loretto, PA and Emmitsburg, MD, to the beaches and shoreline of West Long Branch, NJ. But when it comes to intercollegiate athletics, the goal of the NEC is consistent - to provide its members the opportunity to participate in quality competition at the Division I level while operating programs that are fully integrated in the academic mission of each institution. The NEC's commitment to academic excellence has translated into national recognition for both individual student-athletes and the league's member institutions as a whole. NEC student-athletes consis- tently graduate at well above the national average and its athletic programs continue to be honored for their Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) figures. On a conference-wide level, more than 2,000 student-athletes qualified for the NEC Academic Honor Roll in 2008-09, nearly a 25 percent increase from the previous year. Saint Francis (PA) posted the highest GPA in the conference to claim the NEC Institutional Academic Award for the first time. On the field of play, the NEC has enjoyed many successes both regionally and nationally, competing in 21 NCAA championships each year.
