CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: My curricular design and development of the academic undergraduate minor, “Integrative Approaches to Health and Wellness” and four courses within it, has allowed me to interact with students interested in evidenced-based Integrative Medicine (IM) from a variety of disciplines. The courses I created for the minor include: The Evolving Art and Science of Medicine (College of Medicine), Body/Mind Goes to School (College of Education and Human Ecology), Yoga: Theory and Practice (College of Arts and Science). In 2016, I received a grant from the Honors College to create and teach, Mindful Resilience: From the Individual to the Organization to give resiliency skills to pre-professionals. For the Learn, Serve, Inspire (LSI) medical school curricula, I have designed the Integrative Medicine strand, while for the Family Medicine residents I teach both integrative medicine and wellness strategies. Grant funded, I have also offered a 4 week leadership course for faculty through the OSU Women’s Place, Exploring Leadership from Within. The strongest pedagogical technique that I utilize in the classroom is the creation of community amongst students. It is important to me to balance technological innovation (that has the potential for human isolation) and the joy that is possible through human, in-person connection. Yet, I recognize the capacity for innovative web based practices that can support, and scale, what happens in the classroom. Thus, my educational mindfulness intervention, Mindfulness in Motion, is a hybrid program, including weekly in-person classroom sessions, with daily online practices. The Department of Family Medicine hosts the online learning platform website that enables students to individually access written tips, her audio and video practices, and hot links that extend classroom teaching: https://mindfulnessinmotion.osu.edu/home. This site is customized for the type of learner, offering tracks for 4 types of students: college students, healthcare professionals, busy working adults, and cancer survivors. Stress reduction and resiliency building have been the foci of my teaching career. Three hundred seventy learners have been through the MIM educational innovation in the past year, and over 900 learners since its inception. Klatt, M. Page 4 Each of these teaching/mentoring opportunities have fed my passion to excel as an interprofessional, integrative medicine educator. My interest is to utilize mindfulness to teach students how to enhance patient centered care while heightening awareness of their own wellbeing. My academic focus of interdisciplinary teaching, research, and service, (with undergraduates, graduate students, medical students, Family Medicine Residents, and Faculty) has allowed me rich inter-professional collaborations, which have in turn enhanced my personal values and mission. CLINICAL INTERESTS: Clinically, I have adapted my mindfulness program for specific patient populations, including Cancer Patients, MS patients, older African American patients with cognitive decline, and cardiothoracic surgical patients. Throughout my career Mindfulness and Stress Reduction have been my focus: At the Worksite (especially for the healthcare professional), In the Classroom, and for Cancer Survivorship. CLINICAL SERVICE: 2009-present Mindfulness in Motion for Cancer Survivors. JamesCare for Life, 8 week intervention. Resilient Cancer Survivorship, twice annually 2009 Supporting Survivorship through Yoga and Meditation.
