She was born in 1533, which is nearly 500 years ago! Queen Elizabeth I was very clever and could speak lots of languages. She is famous for her bright red hair and pale skin. She never got married, but she did have lots of favourite people at her court. Queen Elizabeth I never wore armour but she did find a way to make lots of money by letting people buy armour from her royal armoury. Queen Elizabeth I / © Royal Armouries / May 2020 / 1/4 A royal favourite This amazing armour is from around 1575. It belonged to Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester. He was one of Queen Elizabeth’s favourite people. Can you see all of the detail on this armour? It is decorated from head to toe with beautiful patterns. This is to show how important and rich Robert was. A tough job SCOTLAND Queen Elizabeth I was not just Queen of England, but also Queen of Ireland and Wales too. Can you imagine doing all that? Back then NORTHERN people did not have telephones or the internet. IRELAND If people wanted to get a message to someone, they had to write letters and send them by IRELAND messenger. The messenger would take letters and ride on a horse to deliver them. ENGLAND WALES The Last Tudor Queen Elizabeth I was the last Tudor queen. Her grandad was Henry VII and her dad was Henry VIII. Both her brother and sister, Edward VI and Mary I also ruled England but Elizabeth was the longest reigning Tudor. She was queen for 44 years.
