    Cruising French Polynesia with children Experience Report - July 2018 - www.sy-moya.de Summary We, a family of four, visited French Polynesia including the Marquesean Islands, the Tuamotus and the Society Islands within 2.5 month from May to July 2018 after crossing the Pacific Ocean from Panama. For us French Polynesia is one of the most fascinating places we have been so far. The islands are absolutely stunning, many reefs are pristine with an abundance of wildlife, the culture is rich and the people we encountered as warm and open hearted. Especially, the Tuamotus are not easy to navigate and we experienced some nautical challenges as we entered through the passes into the lagoon, anchored inside the atolls and experienced pacific weather patterns. All of them we managed by thorough planning and were well worth the efforts. And it came to pass that Hagoth, he being an exceedingly curi- ous man, therefore he went forth and built him an exceedingly large ship, on the borders of the land Bountiful, by the land Desolation, and launched it into the west sea, by the narrow neck which led into the land northward. And behold, there were many of the Nephites who did enter therein and did sail forth with much provisions, and also many women and children; and they took their course northward. And thus ended the thirty and seventh year. And in the thirty and eighth year, this man built other ships. And the first ship did also return, and many more people did enter into it; and they also took much provisions, and set out again to the land northward. And it came to pass that they were never heard of more. And we suppose that they were drowned in the depths of the sea. And it came to pass that one other ship also did sail forth; and whither she went we know not. (Alma 3:5–8) What we have here, is an account of a colonizing movement of men, women, and children who went out in ships presumably into the Pacific Ocean sometime between 53 and 57 b.c. The makeover is described by the renowned Sofitel group as a “refined and understated sense of modern luxury, with a signature touch of French decadence”. Guests can enjoy the champagne provided on arrival while admiring tropical fish through their glass panel of the bungalow’s floor. Each bungalow is equipped with a king-size bed, a sofa bed and can accommodate two adults and one child under 12 years of age. Most importantly, each one features a private terrace to take in the breathtaking Tahiti sunsets. General Manager Mr Didier Lamoot says the bungalows will “appeal to travellers seeking authentic Tahitian luxury experiences”. Located on the west coast of Tahiti Island, Tahiti Ia Ora Beach Resort by Sofitel, sits on the edge of the only white sand beach on the island with views to Moorea Island. A majestic volcanic island, just like a queen surrounded, Bora Bora has the most extraordinary lagoon in the world. Bora Bora used to be called Vavau. The first European to sight the island was Dutchman Jakob Roggeveen in 1722. Captain Cook landed there in 1769 and named it Bora Bora on nautical charts. In 1847, French king Louis-Philippe recognized the Leewards Islands as independent, including Bora Bora ruled by king Tapoa II, former husband of Pomare IV, queen of Tahiti. Bora Bora only became a French territory in 1898. The island belongs to a group of volcanic islands that arose from a hot spot. The volcano, which was active a little over three million years ago, collapsed and was subjected to strong erosion. Motu To’opua, which peaks at 148 meters (485 ft.), is the only remaining fragment of the southeast rim of the crater. The pearl of the pacific is world-famous for its glinting turquoise lagoon, dazzlingly white sandy stretches of beach and luxurious resorts. With such a dreamlike setting, this magical island is, unsurprisingly, a great spot to discover. Bora Bora is one of the world’s top resort destinations.
