DEFINING INCREMENTALISM ABSTRACT Incrementalism can be explained as the outcome of both clearly intentional managerial actions and less intentional organisational processes. Using data gathered through a large scale survey, these two explanationsof incrementalism are explored. The results indicate that organisational context, such as size, maturity, and sector, influence the cause of incrementalism. Acknowledgements: This work was sponsoredby ESRC grant no. ROOO235100.
