Doreen Mokgolo [email protected] – Learners from NN Nde- bele Secondary School pledged their support in the fi ght against gender-based violence on Monday. They took to Nala Street, just in front of the Duduza Police Station, to voice their grievances, performed a guard of honour and chanted ‘enough is enough’ songs. Some of the male teachers and learners showed their solidarity by wearing high heels, head scarves and lipstick. The school collaborated with the Duduza police to pledge support to all victims of violence in schools around the country. Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka educated the learners about gender-based violence. Speaking at the assembly, he re- iterated the police’s support in the fi ght against violence by prioritising all cases of violence against women Download the Pixzar app, scan and children. the photo to see more photos “We are encouraging learners to report any incidences of violence perpetrated against them to the po- Teachers and learners joined the national outcry against gender-based violence. lice without any fear. “We cannot continue living in a society where women and children port against gender-based violence main quiet until the victim is killed. are living in fear in their homes, at because the school doesn’t operate “We are encouraging the learners schools and on the streets. as an island. to speak out and seek help because “As the police, we are saying we “These learners come from the in the absence of their parents we are School principal Billy are here and will do whatever it very same community that abuses their parents.
